According to ESPN-Vin Baker's Agent says Baker's deal is for part of MLE not LLE. If so, we may be stuck with 3 pf's to play the middle.

IMO, Dampier for 1-2 seasons with the MLE is better than Baker for 1-2 seasons with part of the MLE...

If Dampier is willing to take the MLE, Baker's agent is smoking crack.

My guess is that if Dampier wants to sign for the Mid Baker is out of luck...and if it is a signa nd trade that Baker will be getting the 3M a year. Isiah is just waiting for Damp to make a decision.

I wonder if Isiah floated the LLE deal with Baker and he and Damp started talking MLE so that GS would be more inclined to do a sign and trade in favor of losing the big man without anything to show for.

It would be weird to use the MLE on baker if there was only 0.1% chance (or a 0.00000001% briggs chance) that dampier signed for that amount.

If they use the MLE on baker it is because they either know that another trade is pending or that dampier decided to sign somewhere else.

BTW, couldn't it be possible to do a sign and trade with a team under the cap like Atlanta, they sign damp, and then trade him to us for i dunno KT and nazr ?

In that way they got what they want, I mean some interior players to solidify their paint, and we get damp.

I don't know anything about a rule that could prevent us from doing that. Any though about it?

From Larry Coon's FAQ:

A player cannot be traded until three months after signing a contract or December 15th of that season, whichever is later.

It was worth trying... Thx for the info though, i thought that rule only applied to traded player, that couldn't be traded a second time before a time limit expires.

Not that I would EVER believe Goodwin but it this is true and Dampier would have agreed to the MLE, that's pretty bad.

Personally I don't believe it because even I don't think Isiah is that stupid.

I would hope he wouldn't lose out on dampier for baker, but remember Goodwin is crawford's agent too, so when jamal got less than what he wanted (reportedly) there was probably an agreement that isiah would take care of baker as well.

If everything that came from Goodwin was true, Crawford would've been a Knick 6 weeks ago instead of yesterday. Hope this isn't true.

I thought there was a 24-48 hour window in which a player could be signed and then traded. If that is so then the prior comment using Atl as an intermediary could come into play. Anyone have any info on such a window?

i think that's correct...the same thing happened last year w/Rasheed Wallace pretty much...the Hawks got Sheed from POR for Rahim, & then traded him a couple days later for ending contracts & picks to DET...theoretically, the same could happen here, but the Knicks don't have much to offer ATL now that their ending contracts are gone.

ON EDIT: actually, i think the rules are different when it comes to signed FA's...anyone have any clarification on that?

This could also be as true as the Crawford deals being dead.
Hopefully everything will work out, but none the less, it's already been a successful offseason.

isiah would not ruin the chances of getting damp for baker, if he gets baker for partial mle, its to get damp. end of story. isiah isnt dumb.

Exactly. As raven already pointed out, Isiah probably knows something we don't. Whether the sign and trade is revitalized again, or if Damp decided to sign elsewhere. Just gotta trust Isiah, and with the work he's done the past 8 months, it's hard not to.
