I can't imagine any franchise banking on free agency as few do leave. Bottom line is Durant left to a winning situation that is also sustainable for some time.
Westbrook could have walked but does so with great financial risk. Melo would not take that, and basically few players do.
Westbrook knows he has a very special career and Thunder will still be respectable. He also has financial security. What is a chip worth? Also, no guarantee he moves to another team and wins there either.
Durant to warriors is unusual because few championship caliber teams have that kind of cap space. Really, it was quite an opportunity!!!! Maybe Warriors could have added greater depth by taking on more salary (trade barnes prior) and that might have been provided the depth when Bogut went down. Still, they won 73 darn games, they were up 3-1 AND had the cap space!! Then, then sign Durant.
Sorry, I know some think Durants did a wussified thing, but got to give warriors some serious credit!
