I'm actually happy about this. Once he found his shot, the second half of last season he may have actually been the best guard on the roster.

It's not about that when it comes to Sasha. Sasha brings it in practice. He's going to help the team gel. He's a fiesty competitor too. Sasha is always ready when called upon. Regardless if people think he's good or that he sucks he's a guy you want on the roster. He's a leader.

I think Sasha is a good addition. He knows what to do and when his shot is on he's a good player. Dude gave max effort and this team needs guys like that in practice as well as in games. A kid like Holiday can learn a lot from Sasha. As we know he's a good mentor for KP as well and could help Willy and Kuz.

... and then there were two...

Roster spots open.

Veteran big (?) and Baker and Randle in a steel cage death match.

Yeah, I completely agree. Whether he needs to be the first guard off the bench because of an injury, play five minutes, not play at all, just practice hard... he's a good pressence on the team. Even when he wasn't hitting his shot I liked him. Once he started hitting his shot, he was actually a good player for us.

Agree, he's a decent backup and good teammate who can be used as needed. As a win now squad with some tread, you cant have many kids learning on the job . Next addition should be a 4

I just hope that we see the shot hitting version of Sasha from day 1.

I also consider him to be the most Triangular player in the NBA- he will provide an example for others.

You figure he's a good practice guy who pushes other players, and we know that he's a good bench/locker room presence.

Good deal at the Vet's minimum.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

He's a nice player to have on the team, a horrible player to have in the rotation. That has always been on position on him, even when he was playing poorly. He clearly had a positive impact on KP, is a good teammate, and brings a toughness to the team. Looks like we have 2 spots left. We need an additional big man. I wouldn't be surprised if Amundson is back in that role. We will see. Also, another guard. I think Baker is the lead for that spot, but i'm sure Phil will keep his options open as the free agent market settles. I love the balance of this group though. For the first time in as long as i can remember, we are going into the season with a set starting line-up and likely rotation, with roles being established from the start instead of a lot of trial and error. I think that is going to have a very positive impact on this team, instead of plug and play.

C Noah/Hermangomez/Plumlee
PF Porzingis/O'Quinn
SF Anthony/Thomas/Kuzminskas
SG Lee/Holiday/Vujacic
PG Rose/Jennings

I'm 100% good with this cause we need his 3 point shooting and his energy and the way he aggravates the guys he guards.

And even though he's more of a SG he can play PG in the triangle and play it well.

Wow there sure is a lot of love for Sasha on here all of the sudden after so much hate for him all through last year. I guess the way he came on for the last month or so of last season changed some minds on him.

Well to my eyes in person last Feb., he was the team's best guard. Not that is saying much.

According to today's NY Post Sasha is back to "rile up" us fans. Also we "soured" on him during his shooting slump. So no doubt the source of that information is Berman's Twitter feed filling up with "who is thus scrub?!?"

So who knows, maybe the haters are in summer school? Or the recent moves and sunny days has everyone more positive about End of Bench Sasha versus Starter Sasha.

Many posters are referring to the team as a 'win now' squad, though I think this does a disservice to what Phil and Mills have built here. This is more a "now & later" squad - built to win now while setting the foundation for long-term sustained success. KP6, Willy, Mindy, Plumtree, Holiday, Jennings, maybe Baker or another rook. That is a solid set of youths who will learn from the young vets and be the new core in the coming years. Not to mention the new FA's and draft picks we'll add in the coming four years.

Now & Later!

The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

That's an expensive butler but I think its well worth it. This is like Jack Haley and Dennis Rodman. Well...kind off. Rodman was nuts and needed a baby sitter. Sasha will be the butler for KP6, Willy and Mindaugas "Kuzia" Kuzminskas.

Phil's done a nice job overall this summer--from the selection of Hornacek as HC, to the Rose trade, to the careful selection of FAs (you gotta like how it all came together too -- how Rose recruited Noah and then how Noah recruited Lee. I'm actually warming up to the Noah and Lee signings--hopefully Noah's healthy/bounces back and has a good comeback year and Lee's a steady vet SG. 4 years is a long commitment though--I just hope each has enough left in the tank to fulfill the length of their contracts. Hopefully Jennings is healthy, relishes/excels in that 6th man role and also has a bounce back year) but I don't understand why we need guys like Vujacic and Drew Gooden to round things out, though. If it all goes to ****, we're all gonna tune in every game regardless because that's what we all do -- I know if it all went south and we're suddenly chasing the best draft pick we can get, I'd much rather watch young kids with some promise filling in over washed up players that really aren't part of the future or even the here & now when you think about it. Just pointless placeholders.. Why not show some foresight and audition some young players for possible spots next year and beyond? Why not Spencer Dinwiddie (PJ Hairston?)/Christian Wood/Cat Barber over Vujacic/Drew Gooden/_______? Makes no sense. These guys he's targeting for the end of the bench have nothing left, come on.. To me, you finish the job 1 through 15...Guys like Dinwiddie/Wood/Barber can all play in the NBA right now. I could see Hornacek loving these players and could see these 3 absolutely pushing guys like Holiday and O'Quinn for PT (Dinwiddie's extremely versatile and can even play with Holiday/filling in at PG--as of now, we don't have adequate PG depth behind Rose and Jennings, two big injury risks. Dinwiddie would be a PERFECT fit right now). Vujacic and Gooden aren't pushing anyone for PT. As for Ron Baker/Chasson Randle--they looked OK toward the end of SL but I've got Dinwiddie/Barber WAY AHEAD of Baker/Randle, not even close. Christian Wood WAY AHEAD of Drew Gooden as well, just one the talent, versatility and upside alone. Hard to believe they don't see it this way.

Knicks will almost certainly have 3 and up to 4 rookies on their roster, along with a second year player, along with another play who has 121 NBA games played.

5-6 players who have less than 2 full NBA seasons under their belt seems pretty reasonable to me.
