Nope, Miami love him and can match (early bird rights) like I said, if he'd been a knick, someone would have thrown a poison pill contract at him by now

Contracts can't be signed for a bit, and since he is restricted it's in the signing teams best interests to not give Miami more time to ponder.

$5,628,000 + $5,881,260 + $18,858,765 + $19,631,975 = $50,000,000 total.

There's no way for us to offer him a big enough contract that Miami wouldn't match so he's now out of the question. He was one of the guys i wanted before the Noah/Lee signings though.

Yep, he's restricted- only issue will be luxury tax issues in yr 3 and 4 of the contract.

People will likely praise this for the Nets, but if we proposed paying him $20mil per year in in 3 and 4 years times we would be ridiculed!

This league is a ****ing joke. I don't care about the new TV deal. This kid was a fringe rotation player and he just got 50MM.

Biambo had 10 good games and gets 70MM.

20 guys that never made an all star team and can't win a game by themeselves just got 15MM plus a year.

I never want to hear about Wall Street again, when guys I've never heard of are getting 40-60MM long term deals.

It's too bad we didn't just split Affalos money last year and lock in a couple more guys long term, these contracts will end the league. Harrison Barnes and Ryan Anderson are making more than Steph Curry and Russell Westbrook. 20MM per for guys that will never make an All Star team.

Just a shame that the guys that built the league made what one of these marginal role players will make next year!

It's unfortunate that fans who follow the NBA have zero interest in understanding the NBA. They prefer to believe things in they make up in their head, rather than consider the facts.

The TV contract powering these mostly 4 and in some cases 5 years contracts is a 9 year deal.

The playoffs just concluded with record ratings.

NBA still has lucrative foreign streaming deals to write, like the recent one with China.

The draft and the free agency frenzy continues to drive interest in the league.

The contracts don't have the ability to make a dent in the league much less end it.

The players getting all this money was pre-determined.

I know there are fans who don't like that fact but it's troublesome they refuse to understand the fact.

It was mathematically impossible and would violate the CBA for the money not to be flowing like it is.

You don't have to like it, but to deny it is choosing willful ignorance.

That is certainly alot of cash for an unproven player but dont think its one of desperation but risk, Marks isnt a novice and he's certainly talking a flyer but he apparently sees a star in the making. Johnson's athleticsm is off the charts, recall him running circles around Galloway like he was stuck in mud , he's explosive and can breakdown dfenders with his bb skills that appear to be very good. Think Lin and Booker were good values and they were quietly building a good young team until now. This is a very noisy move that could backfire or be a stroke of genius. Ball is in Miami's court

As Knickoftime said, realize that the new Cap makes it so that these players HAVE to get paid. There are not enough good players to get high deals, so the mid to low range guys get crazy deals.

And then there will be tons of players on minimum salaries.

FURTHERMORE, when the cap spikes again in a year and the next year, these crazy deals handed out will be the new normal / cheap. With the expanding cap, these deals will be relative bargains.

That's why the draft is SO IMPORTANT. DRAFTING GOOD TALENT means you keep that talent, as long as you don't trade it away (SEE: GRANT). Plus, the players are on restricted deals that are cheap.

The problem is, there are very few stars in the NBA, and very few stars in the NBA change teams ever. Look at the Lakers. Shut out, again. Phoenix, shut out. ETC.

At least we got talent. We could have EASILY been shut out.

No nets value him as a starter and his potential, not his track record. They don't have draft picks. You have to over pay him to steal him. With Wade uncertain in miami, Nets putting the squeeze on Heat to make a move.

Its not desperate, its strateJerie!

Nets not winning a chip, and Tanking makes no sense for them.
