“I’m young, but we don’t have 10 years to win a championship,” Porzingis said. “We got to win soon. So that’s my mindset as well. I know those guys want to win right away. They’ve been in the league for a long time. So all I got to do is stay as mentally focused as I can to help those guys win. That’s the No. 1 goal. I’m not here to have five seasons of just trying to win.”

“One thing I’m already imagining, he’s a point guard who loves to drive and be explosive,’’ Porzingis said. “After he’s missed layups, I can get those putbacks. That’s one thing I’m thinking about already. I know he’s a great passer, and when he slashes, he can give you the pass and kick-out for the 3-pointer. You got to be ready for a guy like that with those quick passes he makes. You got to be ready to make the next play or shoot the ball.’’

“I’ve been working a lot on my handle,’’ Porzingis said. “It’s really annoying. All the little drills with my brother Janis. I can feel it day by day, I’m getting better. And shooting a lot. Shooting so much it’s annoying.’’

Love how he evaluates the moves and incoming players. Talks about specific pieces of his game to sharpen. Could happen sooner or later but KP will be NY Knicks Basketball and the central piece to hopefully bring them to a championship.

Prediction: KP will be our best all-around player next season.

Kid is well schooled. A lot of the Euro youngsters seem to be more mature. Has to be the company they keep as young pros, because they are always around and playing with older players who can share with them a more mature perspective on the game, as well as keep them in their place if they get a little too ****y.

Of course he also benefits from a family that has a lifetime involvement in the game.

Seems like we struck gold with KP, and he's now on a team where he doesn't need to carry it in any way- all he has to do is let the game come to him.

Great post and great prediction. The links are awesome. If not next year then 17-18.

This will sound like hindsight, but I wanted the Knicks to either have the 1 or 4 pick in last year's draft because I wanted no part of Russell or Okafor. However, Mudiay was the guy I wanted the Knicks to draft and I was part of the crew that initially booed the KP selection.

Gotta give Phil credit for getting this one right.

I love his attitude. Hopefully more insane fans will get behind his way of thinking. It would make this a more desirable place to play. In regards to the comment about KP being our best overally player this year, I am looking for continued growth from him. If he is able to cut the ridiculous fouls and play reasonable on ball defense it will be a monster improvement. Asking him to be our best overall player this yr is a tough and unfair expectation set. It is not best for the Knicks or him at this point in time. I do hope for offseason stride though.

To me Kp is the key to this team. He's a savior piece for this franchise and I hope he's a Knick passed the deadline

This made me laugh out loud. He already knows Rose is big on the "kobe assits".

The only reason I watch this team, and my lone flicker of hope for the future of the franchise.

Our only hope is we don't win too many regular season games and end up with at least a top 10 draft pick and knock it out of the park with said pick. Then we have 2 flickers of hope and can really build something sustainable.

Alan Hahn made a really salient point the other day. If the Knicks had played it conservatively looking to last year and the KNicks struggled, the narrative would have turned to Porzingis isn't a franchise player, he's not as good as we thought, etc.

Uh, the guy with the rookie contract isn't the reason the Knicks struggle, it's the guy holding a quarter of our cap space.

That's not what he said, he said that they may not see him becoming a top 5 player in the league. It's not a crazy assessment.

Our best all around player will still be Melo but KP is on his way to being an absolute star for us.

yeah it was an amusing and telling statement. lets hope rose can learn how to dial it back, preserve his brittle body.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

You're so off and such a hater. You find reason to hate on everything the Knicks do and it's exhausting seeing your same old posts every day about everything Knicks.

I was actually on board with much of what you were saying in the 2nd half of the season. However, much of what you have posted in reaction to what has happened in FA and the associated alternative options were either unrealistic or outright illegal under the CBA. I think most are open to an opposing POV but the alternative has to be plausible.
