He's under the arenas rule so it would have to be a backloaded contract with I think around 6 mil cap hit this year. Even if the knicks give him a max the lakers have so much space they could match it and still continue to sign any FA that wants to go to LA. The max part of the contract wouldn't kick in until 2 more seasons later.
I've been saying for a while that i think the Lakers could really surprise a lot of people and be the winners of free agency this off season. They have $60 million to spend and some really good young talent on that team in J.Clarkson, J.Randle, L.Nance and D.Russell and a new young coach that has made a name for himself in L.Walton. I could see them getting two top free agents this off season with D.Derozan being one.
I agree they have a lot of money and the way the cap rules work it will be hard to get any of their youth away from them. The only real negative is this isn't that great of a FA class. So even if they walk away with Derozan and say Whiteside (or another Marquee FA). That isn't going to make them contenders, or even guarantee them a high playoff seed next year.
Well no you don't just add a couple of legit players and all of the sudden become contenders but if they added Derozan and Whiteside to Russell, Randle Clarkson that would be a hell of a start and don't think it would take long for them to become a team ready to make some noise in the playoffs.
PG--D.Russell
SG--D.Derozan
SF--??
PF--J.Randle
C--H.Whiteside
With J.Clarkson as the 6th man or either him or Derozan could even play some SF that would be a good team.
Yeah, I think that's a possibility for them. That'd be a solid team.
Luke Walton will help them recruit Free Agents, as will LA.
But this is why I'm glad we got Hornacek - coaches are important to the FA recruiting process.
