They might already have a good relationship. Rambis staying as an
assistant might not be such a big deal for JH.
If continuing with Rambis as offensive coach is not part of the
understanding that Hornacek and Jackson came to . . . then this
is a massively screwed up deal.If this is not a case of Hornacek getting the job because he's always
wanted to have an opportunity to run the Triangle . . . then it makes
no sense at all.
Huh?? How so??
Yeah I'd have to say I disagree with that. Phil has said many times that he would accept another SYSTEM that promoted group play. My guess is that JH was able to convince Phil he believed in group play and could improve the team with his concepts.
Also contrary to popular belief, pushing the ball is not anti Triangle. However, JH may have more success in getting this team to push and play faster. I'm not expecting miracles but it's possible to keep some aspects of the Triangle in an uptempo style. JH was probably able to convince Phil of this.
There's Triangle
Offense . . . and there's Triangle
Culture.
There's already a lot of doubt in my mind whether Jackson can bring
Triangle Culture to the Knicks without being coach himself.
But I was encouraged by the Triangle Workshop which suggested that
Jackson was going to become more hands on through Rambis.
This Hornacek hire only has a chance of getting us Triangle Culture
. . . if Hornacek has been a closet Triangle-ist for all of his life and
just been waiting for an opportunity to come out.
I've got no issue with varieties of the Triangle Offense -- as you say.
But it's just basketball . . . unless the Culture part is behind it.
