His contract was a complete bargain.

Phil's second best move after drafting KP.

Monroe scored a game-high 23 points (9-15 FG, 5-6 FT) with seven rebounds and three steals over 27 minutes in Monday's 107-98 loss to the Magic.

Spin: It's been a season Monroe will likely want to forget, though he was the only Buck that really showed up Monday. He got some rest Sunday before returning to the starting lineup and got the best of a depleted Orlando front court. Pending a huge performance in the Bucks' season finale, Monroe will finish 2015-16 with his lowest rebound average since his rookie season. A change of scenery might be just what Monroe needs this offseason.

He's also a good player who started every game for a 54-28 club.

Have to be really reaching to bring up the W/L record in this instance. RoLo has been a success. He been getting better and better.

Right. The team's record doesn't mean he's a bad player. He's a good piece. The durability is impressive, too. He's played the full 82 games in 3 of the past 4 seasons. Not many guys do that, particularly guys who play such a physical game.

Yeah, I was just playing Briggs' game.

We were asking RoLo to expand his game and not rely on the PnR looks he lived off of and he had a tough time early on. He really impressed me with how he adapted and started adding to his offensive game. You can just see the confidence oozing from him now. Did you see the Kareem running sky hook and the mid range jumper without hesitation? RoLo is really reaching his full potential in this system.

Hes a good player who doesnt show up at times -- does not create the ball movement from the post that you need in the triangle offense--and defends well against average players. If we want to win---lets go out and spend the money on Pau Gasol and keep Lopez to the role player 24 minute status other that 1/4 when he gives us a 20-10 in 35

I'm fine with that. I agree with you about adding Pau Gasol or David Lee. There were so many games this season that were lost the second KOQ or Seraphin stepped on the floor as the third big man off the bench.

We need to upgrade there.

I see it quite differently. I see a player who improved quite dramatically during the season. He had zero post game and zero offensive focus prior to the year and showed that he could do both. He played without any penetrating guards, something that will help him get even more easy buckets.

If I remember correctly, Rolo had trouble guarding certain types of guys during the year, his brother, Vucevic, Cousins and Gasol brothers, guys can shoot the 20 footer with ease; I recall him matching games Whiteside, DHoward, Pau (when he was hurt), Cousins for one. Rolo needs to shore up the D from distance and also get a shot that is FT line extended range. Needs to keep the ball high when he receives it in the post and keep the ball moving quickly.

For his age and the position he plays, I can't think of another C that I would want for the contract he's on at $13M. That's more than a bargain. He is going to protect KP for another 2 years and then he can be moved or moved to bench. Care to offer up any other C on non rookie contact that you would sub out for? http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/players.html

He's a team player and fierce. I like him as part of the puzzle for a team that could win 50-60 games with other players.

He also had a higher WS/48, Drtg, BPM, and VOrp. However the difference in the latter three is tiny and Lopez costs less so its all good.

Monroe needs a WS48 of close to .300 to make up for his alligator arm defense.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Lopez became the first Knick center to start all 82 games since Patrick Ewing in 1992. Lopez was also the only Knick to start every game this year; the only other Knick to appear in each game was Langston Galloway.

Defense is already incorporated in the WS rating, although it's not a perfect measure of defense. It incorporates Oliver's defensive rating statistic.

It's interesting that their career WS ratings are exactly the same: .135! I think if Monroe had to adjust to the triangle and Lopez were in Detroit, all of Lopez's #s would be better than Monroe's. I wish you could tell BBall reference to give all these advanced stats just for the 2nd half.

To me Lopez is kind of like what Bogut is for gS--effective but hes not going to win you games. We could really use Gasol--he doenst have to start but he can play 28 minutes of the bench with either KP or lopez. Im not bashing Lopez but there are things he cant do that Gasol can.

He's almost the exact opposite to me: A guy who makes a significant difference in the win column but goes overlooked because he's not flashy and doesn't score a ton of points.
