I bought this up in another thread but thought it might be a worthy topic to expand on.
With the NBA elite basically SAS, GSW and CLE, there are many teams on the fringe of either contending, or dropping a notch into obscurity. Parity exists more than ever.
Miami, ATL, Boston, Clippers, Rockets, Chicago and Washington have talent and assets but are not contending for many reasons. Boston and ATL are well coached but lack "Stars", Chicago's roster is unbalanced and Pau likely to leave and Noah not a good investment.
Rockets will be held hostage by Dwight who might decide to let him walk if Durant thinks Harden is better to be with then Westbrook.
OKC has a Durant decision this year, and Westbrook next.
Horford is free to roam from ATL as is Beal.
Miami is getting old but Wade is doing very well.
Clippers are not living up to expectations and Griffith is a trade asset.
In DC, John Wall is not excelling under the current scenario.
Toronto has our pick. Do they trade it for an immediate asset? package it for a higher pick or package for a more impactful player?
In NY All Star hat mogul Carmelo Anthony has a no trade clause which gives him control if he wants to move on.
Im blown away how the West has dropped where Dallas and Portland are playoff bound where Houston is on the fringe. In the east, Chicago is two games out with 4 to play.
Both of them are in need of some change and im not sure its pure coaching.
That said, if players are moving, Knicks could be a player if Melo is willing and able to land in a competitive situation in city he deems desirable. Three way deals happen so its not like Melo need end up in Boston for them to be involved. It was talked about Love to Boston, Melo to clev, and Youthier assets to Knicks for example. Dragic and Winslow for Melo. Griffith to Boston, Melo to clips, Youthier assets to Knicks.
Lakers in play for Westbrook for Russell and change if Durant bolts? Does Durant get traded? OKC need not win a chip to succeed but they need to be relevant.
John Wall in the triangle might elevate his game. A big PG who has a few tools to succeed. Not sure we do a straight deal with the Wiz but say Melo to Miami, Winslow and Dragic to Wiz........Etc etc
If Bulls let Pau and Noah leave they can sign Horford? What if we traded RoLo to Boston for a pick or two, and we sign Horford and Conley? (assume Dwil and Affalo bolt).
I have no idea what or if anyting might happen but you got some incredible parity in the NBA and if a team thinks they can break from the pack, they might have an opportunity to do so!
Shyt might fly this off season.........
