...seems like the kind of rim protector they need. If we're able to move Melo and rebuild, that's the type of move I'd like to make.

I doubt they would do it but I do thin Lopez is worth a Late lottery pick. Teams like Nola, Mil, and Sac might be willing too but I doubt the Knicks would trade him.

^ that was my thinking as well. They say it's a weak draft but there always seems to be a major talent lurking late in them (e.g. Dennis Schroder, Giannas Antetokounmpo and Rudy Gobert in 2013), which is why I'd roll the dice. Maybe we could capture lightening in a bottle.

As for BOS, what are they going to do with a lottery pick? They don't have the minutes or opportunity to develop a young player with their depth. I think they are far more likely to parlay the pick into a veteran. Admittedly, Lopez might not be enough though. Like you said, NOP would be a good target (especially with Lopez's former coach there: Gentry) but their pick might be even higher than BOSs and require more assets. Wonder if Afflalo would opt-in, in a deal there?

they would be foolish to. i doubt it
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I would love to flip Lopez and get younger. He's immobile and can't pass or rebound. But mainly, he's playing KP's position and eating up cap

He averages 10 rbs per 36 min. I think his assists (1.8 per 36) are pretty normal for a center. He gives you everything you could reasonably ask for from a center.

our front court is set
lopez has been great at center why flip him for the sake of flipping when its been seen that kp cant handle the center position as yet.
if we get of him next year itll be guys going we need a center.
point guard and shooting guard and coach our weaknesses right now

Lopez is part of the rebuild. He is not being flipped for an unknown. KP is not a 5 at this time and probably not next year either, so KP and Rolo play together. If the time comes when KP can play the 5, then perhaps Rolo is moved for a needed piece. He is relatively cheap for what he provides.

Yep. Lopez is an above average C (not a star, but rebounds and protects the rim well) who we have on a very reasonable contract once the cap explodes and it what? 28? 29? He is exactly the type of guy you want in a rebuilding situation. A solid, younger vet on a reasonable contract who hopefully will become a piece of a the puzzle in a year or two when/if KP reaches his potential as world destroying stretch 5 + whatever other moves are made.

Mid to late draft picks have what? Maybe a 25% shot at becoming serviceable players? Why give up a sure thing (for what he brings to the table) on a good contract for a such a low chance?

Im all for trading everyone besides KP, Lopez, Hernangomez, and maybe Jerian Grant in the right kind of deal for draft picks, however. I guess im a big RoLo fan.

Everyone knows i value draft picks but i would hold onto lopez at least for one more season. HOWEVER if a lottery team gets crazy and offers their pick then you have to consider it

Lotto pick, sure. Not a mid to late 1st rounder.

I think Robin Lopez's deal is going to look like a steal when the cap adjusts to the new TV deal

Oh I wouldn't even do a mid 1st round pick. It would have to be like top 10 or maybe 12. It depends on what we're getting back too to make the salaries match.

Salaries might not have to match depending on if the team has space but even if it's a late lotto I'd want a player too to compensate for this draft pool.

I love Lopez game but I worry about his age and how quickly his skills might deteriorate if he loses his quickness/agility.

Trade RoLo for a late 1st? That's insanity. He's a double double machine on a favorable contract. Giving him up for unknown draft fodder would be folly. He's a keeper for now.

If some insane team gave us a lotto pick, then it's another story. But that'll NEVER happen.

Dude just turned 28 today and I don't think his game is built on athleticism. He'll be good for another 3-4 years at least.

He just turned 28 today. I suspect that for the next 5 years he's still gonna be in his prime! Most of what he does isn't about his athletic ability but rather his strength, hustle and technique. I think he's still peaking offensively.

I wouldn't do this deal, however while I like Lopez a lot I would consider dealing him, mainly as there are two Cs who Phil would like who are available this offseason (Gasol and Noah), who make sense if the long term plan is to move Porzingis to C. However if we plan on keeping KP at PF then I'd keep Lopez
