Assuming we have a typical expected free agent offseason. No stars sign with the Knicks, we lose some free agents (1 or 2 of Afflalo, Williams, Thomas, Gallo) but add some free agent role players (Evans types) I think 41 wins is about right IF Porzingis and Grant are better.

The veterans on this team are good for 30 to 35 wins if healthy. Melo/Lopez/Calderon/Afflalo give you about that much on any team/situation. If Porzingis and Grant are the same, we're unlikely to improve much more than 35 wins. However if Porzingis and Grant are more consistent and better, we'll be in the 40+ wins category. I'm interested to see what our record was this year in games that both Porzingis and Grant played well with Melo also in the game.

I am allusively very pessimistic but this time I will be very optimistic - 45 wins.
The team however should stay the course with minimal changes to management and players.

.500 with improvements to KP and Grant alone. Maybe we can get to 45 wins if we really upgrade either the PG or SG, or both. But it's impossible to tell at this point.

I know (really, I do . . .) that for every "we could easily have won" there's a
"could easily have lost" and that they tend to even out over the season.

Nevertheless , I still think this team as currently constructed "should" be at .500 --
pretty close to a playoff spot.

Injury to Melo . . . Fisher demoralization . . . KP fatigue . . . seem enough to me to make
for the 7 game difference between the current 34 wins (projected??) and 41 wins (.500
and playoffs).

So .500 for next season . . . seems a likely over/under.

what about FA and system change?

I'm gonna wait for the summer to make those predictions. I will like to see who is added to the roster and who is expendable first.

I can name that tune in... Think the highest I saw on here so far was 45 games. I will say 46!
Hey, the 2014 Milwaukee Bucks went from 15 wins to 41. We're much better than those hacks.

Martin, i'm telling you this guy is not serious. You really think with his history that he's being totally serious with this, out of nowhere and contradictory to his entire belief system thread? He doesn't believe in making any analysis based on very little statistical information and has said so over and over. Why should we take him seriously with such a thread when it's the antithesis of what he says he stands for?

This dude is captain Metric! It's all about Analytics, Percentage and chances of success! Now he wants a low information gut prediction on what the team can do next year before we even get to Free Agency? I mean come on! He's gone on record as being against any kind of "Gut" predictions or decision making and I can grab the many posts to prove it.

phil must be quite proud of his achievement.

Why blame Phil? You seem to have a problem differentiating Poor Execution from what System is being run. You act like Phil's teams have sucked offensively running this offense.

this is phils team and phils coach that he put together with his gut.

What I mean is that the way they were playing isn't what Phil wants. Don't confuse the 2 things. When the team is executing isn't that more indicative of what he wants?

I am sure that phil wants them to play better but he should have thought about that before he used his gut to build this woefully sh1tty team.

What are you gonna say when Wroten is leading breaks, dunking and throwing alleyoops to DWILL, Early and KP? You think it's really gonna be that hard for a fast and athletic guard to find some success if he pushes the ball the way he always has? What exactly is so hard about Wroten getting more easy buckets by simply using his great handles and quickness? As blkexec wrote none of what will make Wroten successful is really about the Triangle. It's just simple instinctual basketball.

the same thing that I would say to someone who goes all in for 1 years salary going for a gut shot while getting even odds, and hits on the river. "what a lucky idiot".

There are too many variables for a fair guess on next years' record. Who comes and who goes. Does KP stay and develop, or does he go to the Olympics? Does Wroten regain his previous athleticism. Do we buy a first rounder and pick up a gem. Just how good is Hernangomez? Ask again after the summer league. Plus answers could see us in the playoffs

unless something radical happens, I think we should expect something like 40+/- 5.

I'm worried we'll be stuck in a trap of mediocrity - not bad enough to get a stud talent in the draft, not good enough to make the play offs/advance.

Too much incomplete information to venture a guess. Coach, FAs, draft, trades, KP's buddy in Spain. The advanced metric Gods are not pleased mreinman.

you can always make a prediction and of course having less data factors into the prediction. You seem to not get this whole idea of logical/analytical vs hope/pray.

and of course, the more data that comes out about what the knicks will do the more it may move the over under. I bet you can already bet on this over under in vegas. Are they a bunch of idiots?

Why does this anger you so much ... wierd.

Hmmmm? On the one hand we don't have our own pick and our star player is on the wrong side of 30. On the other, we have cap space (though everyone does) and a potential young star. To an objective outsider, I think these factors would have to roughly cancel out and they'd predict a similar win total to this year or maybe slightly higher - but you have to factor a lot of uncertainty into the prediction.

I understand it all just fine. I just know you're being disingenuous with this thread. It goes against everything you say you stand for. It's just your sick and twisted sense of humor. You hoped to see some unsuspecting fan post something overly optimistic so you can have a laugh at their expense.

Final decision on the head coach, the draft, free agency and summer league will be far too important factors and you know this. So I have to call BS on this thread. You don't even like this team or Phil. Now you want us to believe your just innocently curious what everyone thinks the team will do next year???
