I feel all this frustration and it's warranted. At 22 and 22 we had it all planned out. Now we are again rebuilding seemingly from scratch. First question. In the current roster, without consideration to Melo or KP, are there players we want for the rotation? Grant? GALLOWAY? Lopez? If Melo is used for the rebuild, and other execs consistently suggesting that we can secure a pick and a "established" starter for him, where do we go? I agree Briggs that it's a guard driven league today, yet if Thomas, Williams, Lopez, KOQ, Calderon have value, then if we sign Batum (not my preference) and have KP, and secure a player and pick for Melo, what FA will want to come. A FA of consequence will want to see that the rotation will be a 500 ball club before they step foot into NY.
This is gonna a 3 way deal with either Chicago or the Clippers or Lakers. Would Clarkson and Laker pick for Melo work? I would like Rose (1 year left) and Portis and add Taj Gibson for Melo and Calderon. We either resign rose or habe $22 million extra into 2017-2018.
Lopez has merit on a methodical p & r ball club but we need a younger more athletic team from top to bottom.
Batum and DeRozen. That works with KP Grant, Galloway. If Williams, Thomas bolt, and if we stretch Calderon, can we get a 10-20 first round guard? Hernangomez in the rotation. Sasha gone, Seraphin gone. Afflalo Gone.
Roster
G: Grant/(Rose)/or Pick
G. Galloway Batum
SF - DeRozen, Batum,
PF. Portis/ KP (Taj G)
C. KP/ Hernangomez
If Rose TG and Portis can be done then DeRozen can't and either way to secure DeRozen would require a 3D party.
