It's funny to me that at 22-22 Knicks were a success story, better than expected, etc...

Then they get some injuries, have a tough stretch and regress to a record that looked like more what we expected...

and all of the sudden it's a catastrophe and they suck. Coach gets fired.

This town is ridiculous sometimes.

Tough stretch? They lost 10 of 11 games.

Melo missed 5 of those games. What do you expect?

Melo missed 5 of the games.

Calderon missed 4 of the games.

Lance Thomas missed 5 of the games.

They played the Warriors, Thunder, Raptors, Clippers - 4 games they'd be lucky to win even if they were healthy.

funny what a sprained ankle can do. lol

regardless, i was on board with rebuilding around KP and being patient from the start

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Once again, the refs screwed the Knicks.

Because you move the slider if your team proves it's better than what pre-season prognosticators say. Just because we were expected to be a mediocre team, doesn't means you settle for it. KP better than advertised, Melo actually passing, much better roster depth (still overall lousy) than last years.

Look at the Mets. No one expected them to win a pennant or even make the World Series. Look at the Panthers, Super Bowl loss aside, no expert predicted a 7-9 team a year ago would be 15-1 and stampede to the Super Bowl.

It's why you play the games. At 22-22 the Knicks had just beaten the 3rd seeded Celtics and were gunning for the playoffs. If you were once good or competitive, then all the sudden the wheels come off, of course they'll be fan outrage and mass firings and shake ups.

Don't settle for mediocrity people. If the team was in the thick of things, then all the sudden lost their way, injuries or not, this team is underachieving, not overachieving. Losing 10 of 11 is what lottery bound teams do. KP, Melo, plus shyt on a stick should at least compete for the 8th seed...

Sorry most teams dont go injury free and play the Nets every game?

its not the losses, its the way we lost. Sure, we're going to lose to teams like GS, but the way we lost some of those games, clearly a mid season adjustment was needed, injuries aside.

I'm glad Phil manned up about Fisher being a bad fit. Better than letting them, the team and us fans dangle in the wind.

I totally agree with the OP! It's not the end of the world. I still believe in this team's ability to get back on track. They did demonstrate they can play at a high level. Gotta get back to that.

Completely agree. We overachieved, then came down to earth with major help from injuries. Now we are right around where most of us expected to be, maybe even better. But KP changed everything, including expectations. With that said, I still think we need to ride out the remainder of the season and then approach the offseason with the sense of urgency to build a playoff-ready team around KP and Melo, now that we really know what KP can provide and is ready to take over that star role.

Agree. Also, KP's play was limited by that sinus infection. He looked like he had hit the wall but had some bounce back games once healthy.

Yep. Logical that they would struggle.

Not saying Fish didn't need to go - maybe he did. It sounds like there was other stuff in the background Phil didn't like.

But I think the team can finish the season well if they stay healthy.

The optimism was before Melo's knee gave out again. You expect fans to be content with a guy swallowing up a 1/3 of the cap if consistently out of the lineup and either relegated to having his minutes cut or even worse on the IR for the remainder of his contract? Are we suppose to be happ Dolan screwed us again?

How did Dolan screw us exactly?

If you're claiming Melo is injured all the time and damaged goods, he'd be hard to trade - which he clearly isn't because Cleveland wanted him.

If you're claiming it's because of the no trade, realize that a player of Melo's stature essentially has a no-trade anyway. No team is going to take a star of his measure if he doesn't want to go there in a trade. Name a time a star of Melo's level was traded without it being something he wanted and was heavily involved in.

Dolan used a 1/3 of the cap to resign Melo when clearly he was breaking down from all the mileage. At worst Dolan signed off on the deal if you want to blame Phil which I don't because I remember his comments about Melo's free agency very vividly as well as his recent comments about the NTC. We did the same thing with H20, Mcdyess & Amare. This is par for the course if you are a Knick fan

Melo's salary next season is $24M. The cap is $92M. That's not 1/3. Season after that the cap is at least $108M and max guys in the league will be making $35M+

Melo is a hall of fame player. He's a top 20 player in the league. He's well worth the money.

Watch some of the players that get signed this summer and tell me Melo is still overpaid.

You're saying a guy who had 33pt and 13rebs in his last game is breaking down... okay.
