The ideal partner for Griffin is a shot-blocking big man with 3-point range. Bad news: There are, like, half a dozen of those dudes on earth. Serge Ibaka is the current prototype(....)

Another such monster rises in Gotham:Kristaps Porzingis. Someone in the Knicks front office should be calling Rivers, sweet-talking him about how a Griffin-Carmelo Anthony swap would help both teams. Paul and Anthony once toasted the prospect of playing together, and Anthony could channel the Team USA version of himself as a supercharged stretch power forward in L.A.

New York probably doesn't want to hear this, and that's fine. Star-for-star deals almost never happen; inertia is too powerful. The Knicks are (kind of) winning again, the Garden rocks, Melo is happy and passing, and he's an appealing franchise face safely under contract for at least two seasons after this one. Swapping Melo for Griffin would leave the Knicks bereft of wing players.

The swap also would give New York a legit star who's closer to Porzingis in age -- a triangle post-up type who should appeal to prospective free agents as much as Melo does. The 2015-16 Knicks are a fun story, but they're not going anywhere real, and they don't have their draft pick. The future should still be the first priority.

I'd do it yesterday despite how much I love Melo. That'd put us in a position to pursue Kevin Durant in the offseason and have one of the deadliest frontcourts of all-time.

what will take to get you guys to stop talking about Melo trades? Money? A free pizza? A kick in the balls from a midget? Free dinner at TFK's house? Spell it out.

Melo has a no trade clause, a massive trade kicker and is simply not going anywhere. Not to mention he's mentoring KP and the only guy Phil signed who has here when he took over. I just dont get why you guys bother.

So what is the deal with this fight he got into? I'm not excited about trading NextLevelDadMelo for a dude with a lot of endorsements and a short temper...

Lol. You say this with Melo currently out with an injury and having missed more than half of last season.

Kevin Garnett had two no-trade clauses and somehow got traded three times in how career. And unlike Melo, Garnett has NEVER had a wandering eye. Even with the T-Wolves sucking, he preferred to stay with the team....and still got traded.

Griffin is the apex of that sort of player. He is the DeMar DeRozan of power forwards -- the guy who lacks a skill that is normally a prerequisite for his position, but stands as a huge net-plus anyway because he has gotten so damn good at everything else.

I LIKE THIS GUY FISHMIKE! i agree 100% lol

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

To be honest, I'm on the fence. I love Melo but I'm scared off by his age and recent health history. Plus, we don't have very many blue chip assets, which makes me concerned about our ability to actually build a team in the future. Those facts lead me to be inclined to move Melo while we can still get great value for him. And the only two realistic options, due to Melo's no-trade clause, are the Clippers and the Heat due to his connections with those respective franchises, their contender status and their economic markets (not to mention that Melo lives in LA during the offseason and his wife Lala is an actress/entertainer).

That being said, Griffin is still relatively young, a star and is more likely to be in his prime while Porzingis is in his. Based on that, I'd roll the dice and accomodate whatever issues might arise during the offseason.

Even better, send Griffin to the Celtics, Jae Crowder to the Clippers and bring back David Lee's expirer, a future pick from the Celtics and the Nets' 2016 first round pick. The Nets are awful enough where it can become the no.1 pick in the draft, which could give us a shot at Ben Simmons! Simmons and Porzingis would give us the ability to be a perennial contender down the road.

Nope. I really like what Melo is doing right now. I want to see what him and KP can do in the next couple of years. We just need an upgrade at SG or PG.

in principle and on paper it is a great trade-- for the knicks. it's pretty clear that griffin is a superb passer but does not get to use that skill in la, while he would certainly here in the triangle... not to mention that his midrange shooting is vastly improved. plus he certainly has the panache for new york.

melo is playing great this season as an all-around player, so what would the allure be for melo, who has already allegedly stated that he does not want to leave new york because of his kids, has business interests here that he wants to be near, etc etc. it would be weird for him to revert back to wait for the ball/catch and shoot melo, at least in my opinion.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

From ESPN...

Another such monster rises in Gotham: Kristaps Porzingis.

You could conjure other fantasy deals -- Griffin for Kevin Love, Griffin for Al Horford (if Horford indicates he's gone, which I doubt he ever would) -- but there isn't really a point.

Imagining Melo in Griffin's spot with the Clippers actually highlights Griffin's value -- both as what he is, and what he could be. For all the squawking about his selfishness, Melo gets you buckets against elite defenses with the shot clocking winding away. Replacing Griffin with small-ball shooters sounds great in theory, and might even work in the regular season. But it probably wouldn't work as well in the playoffs.

If melo was willing to cosign.

If keep melo.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Clippers are the winners in this trade, IMO.

Griffin has benefited from having Paul in terms of his scoring, and has probably had elevated assist numbers because he's connected with Jordan a lot.

Still a below average outside shooter, who does not seem to be the physical force he once was.

Not a great 1/1 defender against taller players, either.

If guys who have watched him more than I have can tell me how he fits into our offense I'm willing to listen.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

better court vision and passer. melo is doing great at passing the ball and playmaking, but griffin is a more gifted passer and playmaker. without a ball-dominant point guard-- a given in the triangle-- griffin's passing would become an incredible asset. just recall what he did without chris paul in the lineup. his midrange shooting has improved greatly too. and he's only 26.
