i would imagine he's going to get close to 30k? i think it might be tough for him to break 30k, but he's got a chance to pass wilt/his airness.

Barring major injury maybe the top 15. That's if he's still productive for another 3 or 4 years of his "prime".

He's got another 5000 points in him, so he'll fall short of the top 10 but around Dominique territory, whose career he's been frequently compared to.

He needs another 10,000 points to get near Wilt and Jordan. He isn't going to reach that with age being factored in he will probably get to 27,000-28000.

For reference, Paul Pierce has 9190pts since the season he was 31 years old aka where Melo is now.

If Melo matches Pierce, he'd have 30983pts, good for 6th place.

Not saying that'll happen, but it's within the realm of possibility.

Whoa, looking at the numbers, Lebron might get up to 10th place this season.

Your barring injury projection of 5000 is probably worst case scenario. Healthy Melo will get that by age 34.

Yeah, Melo has a good shot at top 10. Bron has a great shot at top 5.

Less games played. I don't think Lebron has ever been out for an extended period of time.

You can't be on this list as a "non-scorer".

Lebron is every bit a scorer as he is a passer.

I figure Melo has about 8000 more points in him. This will place him somewhere in the Top 10

Your barring injury projection of 5000 is probably worst case scenario. Healthy Melo will get that by age 34.

*If healthy

If he plays 60-70 games for the next few years (which is his career average) and multiplies that by 20, he'll average about 1300 a season. Time 3 or 4 "peak" seasons and he'll get 5200 points to add to his 21000.

After that, I suspect a numbers dive right off a cliff at age 37 if he's still playing.

So my prediction is actually best case scenario.

You are way off. He is 31. After his remaining prime years as you state, he will not be 37. He will be 35. If he is scoring 1300 a year for 4 more years, he will not stop playing at age 35. He will continue until at least 37, as you said. Worse case, if healthy, is around 5000. Best case, if healthy, is at least 7000. If he puts up 20 ppg until age 35 then plays 2 more seasons and averages 10-12 ppg, which is on low end, you are still looking at 7,000 points for his career.
