30 points on 13-20
7 rebounds
9 assists

He may have had better games number wise but he played an absolute perfect game tonight and LEAD this team to a much needed victory

KP is a ways away from being a goto player. Being under DaddyMelo's wing is perfect for him right now.

Btw, Melo played great defense again tonight.

I would not trade lebron straight up for him right now.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

One thing that really impressed me was that he was angry with Hayward and the refs but he continued to play smart. He isnt always a good player when he is mad. Also, he is happy being a part of a team.

msg just showed cavs at nets highlights, lebron on a fst break took about five steps with a no call
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

I made the comparison a few weeks ago. I said he's playing like a LBJ lite, or like a near Lebron James. Melo's playing like 80-90% of Lebron. He's rebounding, defending with energy, passing the ball, handling the ball like a point AND scoring 20+ points. Only one other guy in the league does all of that with the same type of size - it's Lebron. Obviously Lebron is better, but Melo has clearly shown me to be wrong. I thought he had hit physical decline, and while he has slowed down a bit, he had a huge development mentally. It's rare you see a guy at 31 have this, but here it is. It's as if he just realized that he should play like Lebron instead of Glen Robinson or Barkley. And it's worked wonders. Major props to Melo. George Karl for years tried to get him to play this way.

Did not watch him much when he was in Denver...

...this easily is the best all around ball I've seen him play for us- much more "MVP-like" than the way he played in the 2012/13 season, IMO.

The cross court passes for 3's looked like the stuff James does all the time.

A very good second half for Melo. Not his best first half. But he's playing great right now overall.

Also he is a better shooter and post up player overall. Arguably he might be able to keep this level of play up longer than Lebron just because his offense isn't as based on his athleticism as Lebron's is. If he stays healthy we might look at this season as the beginning of "2nd part of his career Melo" or "Leaving his prime Melo" because he could keep this up well past his current contract.

I predicted this Carmelo was going to dominate early on in the season. When he was struggling with his shots, a lot of the haters were unable to see the progress. I said this dude was going to round into form by mid-season. In fact, he has an extra gear that he has yet to show. Watch how he plays after the break. He is missing some of the shots when he drive to the basket; I expect for him get even better at finishing. His legs are just where he wants them to be l, and he is gaining confidence. I expect for Carmelo's name to soon surface amongst the MVP candidates

Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

Lebron does that every freaking game and gets away with it at least 90% of the time

I know MELO didn't realize it but THIS is what MDA was trying to get him to do. MELO just wasn't ready to buy in at that time. When he plays like this it makes this team SOOOOOOOOOO much better.

It's still ISO MELO, buried behind the triangle system. The only difference is ISO MELO is now attacking with his head up and eyes on more than just his defender. The difference is he finally has players around him that he trust and built some chemistry with.

And somewhere, Briggs is typing the mother of all posts.

But I kid.

Glad things are finally clicking with Melo. Was hoping he would come around. As the team grows with one another, I think WE will make a lot of noise...

Different system, different supporting cast, No Zen Master voodoo. The situations are not close to being comparable. Phil Jackson has made his career off of getting the strongest personalities to conform to his will. The only question was if he was still able to do it as Prez and not a hands on coach. And this may be the first time that a team was actually built around Melo, and not just names compiled together "clumsily".
