very little GS does makes sense... but if we are getting Dampier why go get Dale Davis (except because they have 3 starting PGs and just signed DFisher). DD has an expiring deal, but so does NVA so its a wash.

Time will tell...

GS wanted a back up PG. this way they dont need to increase payroll leaving Dampier in the dust.

meaning done for us.. with DD on board they have no need of Nazr as a backup, so they can let Dampier walk with out adding payroll.

KGW.com is saying the Van Ex trade is a done deal, I would guess ours is also. Too bad if so... that would have been a nice upgrade.

I hope the deal is dead, I hate to say that and I know we need a center, but I don't want to overpay dampier, just because a few dumb azz GM's overpaid, Dice, Okur and Foyle...

If this is true and the deal is dead, Damp really dosen't have a lot of options left. He can go play for Atlanta if they even want him instead of Swift, or take the MLE from NY or Memphis.

Let him take the MLE. It's all he's really worth.

Beyond that, Mulling must avoid pissing off Fegan. According to a couple reports, he owes a couple favors to Dampier's agent... so if he renegs on the sign-and-trade he may pay for it later.

Mullin's still green, too. Who knows what he'll do.

Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

hey, this could all be a blessing in diguise. dampier is an upgrade but i'm not losing any sleep over not getting him. hey, shutting this door can open doors to other things (swift sign & trade?). and again, i'm the broken records, we're ok if we do NOTHING. i'm gonna judge isiah come the trading deadline (moving expiring deals in deke, othella, and cezary) and next offseason (moving penny and/or tim).

mullin pretty much handcuffed the franchise with mediocre talent (layden anybody?). it's gonna take a couple of years to make up for the signings of fisher and foyle but the difference is that they do have a few young pieces (jrich, dunleavy, murphy) that could expedite it. this nve for davis deal is a wash on paper but good for mullin b/c they needed a replacement for dampier and they needed to clear up a PG spot. good move for portland also but ultimately, it's not going to do anything of importance for either squad.

Interesting...

I don't understand how Portland does it... they have SOOO many very good players on their roster... and they seem to keep acquiring more like it's going out of style. What an odd mix of "reformed" headcases.

I wonder how their fans feel about all of their trades.

I think Mohammed is an excellent trading piece for any team--- an affordable yet productive big man.

Actually a lot of weird **** is going on now. The deal is suppossed to be Dan Dickau and Dale Davis for Van Exel. However, people in Portland are saying that on the radio station the FAN, they are reporting that the deal is not officially done yet because there is a 3-way deal going on in which Dampier will be involved. No one is saying who the third team is, but people are speculating that it is either us or the Grizzlies. Some are speculating that it might be the Knicks and that we might be taking Ruben Patterson and Erick Dampier in the deal. Others are saying it is the Grizzlies. I don't really know what to believe.

DD for NVE makes a lot of sense for Warriors.

Environment is changing. Owners are getting sick of being "boozed".

Mullin might promise to be good to Fegans other players. Besides, they will be restricted also. Warriors had offered to extend Damp 2 more years at 8-9 mil. Damp for 4 years is ok, and for about 38mil.

I want big z for KT and change!

People need to realize that the Cavs are not giving up a 29 year old 7 3 monster for the likes of KT and FW, who somehow became the new KT and Ward as everybody is supposed to be willin to send us there souls for that package. Big Z is stayin where he is. Unless Lebron says he wants Z out, like Kobe did to Shaq, he will be a Cav for life.

On the Dampier front, with the Hawks passin him, and making possibly the 2nd usefull move all the teams made so this offseason combined, it becomes a choice of whose MLE to take. Unless ofcouse Mullin is forced by the agent to do the trade to us. It will either come down to a sine and trade between us and the Warriors, or whose MLe Dampier decides to take. Indiana and Phenex seem to be unwillin to offer him the full MLE so far, but who knows. If he picks Indy over us for the MLE I can't blaim him. Can't blai Iseah either, he did his best.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Just some insoght...Dale Davis is a FA at the end of the year...($9 mil)...also there were reports that GS wanted to trade NVE (he has a team option after this year at $12 mil, so he could've technically been a FA) but GS didn't want to deal with his headaches since they have so many PG's....this may make the Knicks sweeten the deal ($3 mil?) but IMHO it isn't dead....also...about that 3 team deal...

maybe NVE and Nazr goes to Portland (they don't have a center, do they?) Othella, Davis and Dikaeu to GS (FA's...dikeau has a team option after this year...that clears like almost 15 mil in salaries after the year for GS) and we get Patterson and Dampier?

According to an ESPN article... we are still going to get Dampier

"The Golden State Warriors traded Nick Van Exel to the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday for veteran center Dale Davis and backup guard Dan Dickau, a league source told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

The Oregonian reported Tuesday that Dickau told the newspaper he had been traded. Blazers general manager John Nash would not comment when reached by the paper.

The trade is essentially a salary swap by both teams; Van Exel and Davis are in the last year of their deals.

The Warriors no longer needed Van Exel now that they've signed guard Derek Fisher. However, they did need another veteran center to back up Adonal Foyle with free agent Erick Dampier likely leaving the team through free agency. Dampier is expected to agree to a sign-and-trade deal with the Knicks this week.

The deal doesn't make as much sense for the Blazers. They have Damon Stoudamire at the point along with lottery pick Sebastian Telfair. Telfair's played so-so in the Rocky Mountain Revue summer league and may have prompted the Blazers to look for more immediate depth at the position. While the deal shores up their back court, it hampers their front court to a certain extent. Theo Ratliff is the starter, but he has a history of injuries. His only real back-up now is Vladimir Stepania. Van Exel has a $12.7 million team option on his contract next season. It's unlikely that the Blazers will pick up the team option."

the dampier deal can still go down. they can still need nazr and othello. davis is technically a power forward who has proven to be overpowered as a center in the west. he will backup troy murphy only. naz will still be the second center. remember the big reason mullin wanted nazr is because he is an affordable center who is athletic and has a better offensive game than foyle. they will keep othello as a trade pawn this year.
