Time to release Sasha put Grant in the d league and designate Calderon as guard 5
Bring up Freddette Eric Green and ss if we can trade for an existing under used 2 guard like archie goodwin

Can't release Sasha, he's KP's mentor, and he's obviously doing a nice job. He just doesn't belong in the rotation. You need to think about chemistry and culture when making moves. This isn't fantasy or nba 2k.

Tony Wroten. I'd like to see what he can do. At least offer him a ten-day contract.

Can someone explain to me how Early could improve his defense (as we saw in summer league) and appears to be a decent shooter, can't make the active roster?

He's long, young and athletic.....creates easy transition buckets and has good transition defense.

I'm just hoping it's not because of his lack of triangle IQ......Because if Phils system is causes us to lose out on talent, then we will never when a championship under Phil, unless we add players from the dream team.

Who knows what the reason has been for Early not playing. It could be that he's really very limited to the SF spot. He can't play SG and can't play PF either. He has less breakdown ability than DWill or LT. I think he's just stuck by his limitations overall.

As for our guard situation I suspect it's only a matter of time. I think Phil was hoping the team could hold out until 10 Day contracts could be handed out. I suspect that's when we'll see him make his moves. Jerkin's slow development really messed up the plan I think. I think they probably felt they could get more from him even as a rookie. IMO it's all mental with Jerian. At this point they have to take a look at some of these other guards and see what they can bring to the table.

The problem I see is that guards of today (including my old butt) play on instincts. The Allan Houston / Reggie Miller type guards don't exist anymore (Klay Thompson might be the only one)......It seems like the triangle is suited for one dimentional guards. And right now, most of the NBA guards are more than one dimentional. And they need that offensive variety to get into a rythm.

Steph Curry is great because he has that freedom on offense....He's allowed to play off of instincts, without thinking too much. Spread the floor, play a high pick and roll....and surround him with shooters. Our system seems like it gives you cutting angles (which can be predictable), instead of creating your own cutting angles, based on how the defense is playing you. I'm not a triangle expert, but I've played ball for a very long time. And it seems like players (especially guards) are having a hard time in this system. One of the announcers (Rick Fox) said 40% of our system is the triangle. So whats going on with the other 60%?

I think adding more speed and athleticism would infuse more energy into this team. Most of the guards on all teams are faster and more athletic than us. Thats my case for taking the suit off of Early....and allow Grant and D.Will to use their young legs, even if they play bad.....Thats the only way for them to learn and for us to find out if Grant and Early are keepers or trade bait.

Truthfully ive never been a big fan of the triangle. Lets be honest the main reason it worked for phil was because he had jordan, kobe, shaq, and even pippen to a lesser extent. Those guys could win in ANY system

This is so true, we need to get with the times even the Spurs are pushing the tempo. And yes we need better guards, AA would be nice off the bench, if we can move Jose you have to do it.. I'm all for giving jimmer and Eric green a run as well as worton... These guys can't be as bad as our pg's, Jose has to be the worst starting pg in the league.

It would be nice to have him knowing what we know now, but Grant was and still is a great PG prospect, and we have a hole there, and KP was supposed to be a PF, even though it's looking more now like he will be a center. But as things stand right now, i really wish we had Portis. What a nice piece he would be next to KP.

Hopefully they have a plan in motion. I am praying that it's not the alternative, meaning they have NO PLAN. Under normal circumstances it would be almost ridiculous to assume they don't have a plan, but I am starting to worry a little. There is no doubt in my mind now that Early is trade bait and they're just trying to keep him healthy. I'm just hoping that DWill and/or LT are not involved in those trade plans. What they need right now is another jolt of energy, which is what they got last year with the series of 10 day contracts. Maybe Gallo slides up to the starting PG spot if they bring someone up from the Dleague, or if they bring someone in on a trade? I guess it depends on who exactly they get. But I can't imagine that they're going to continue for the rest of the season with Calderon as a starter. That would just be flat out insane.

I'm gonna say it's because he isn't any good. He has shown absolutely nothing in the NBA and just cause he plays well in the D-League means nothing cause there's plenty of guys that will never be in the NBA that play good in the D-League. He's a Knick so i'm rooting for the kid but he hasn't shown anything in the NBA yet.

perhaps youre right (even though im not a fan of the jimmer) but this will never happen

as much as i hate wroten, if hes available they should grab him

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Here's the thing! The guards should be pushing the ball so that they can look for easy scoring and to preserve shot clock for the half court sets. When the guard is bringing the ball up this is the time for him to be aggressive and make key decisions. Pushing the ball and probing the D to see if there's an easy scoring opportunity. If not he can pull it out and call for a Drag Screen and again look for an easy scoring opportunity. After that you can look to setup in the Triangle. There should be enough shot clock left to effectively run the Triangle at that point.

Even in the Triangle set the guard will have a chance to make plays mainly in the Pinch Post side of the floor which is wide open since it's a 2 man game with everyone else packed on the Triangle side of the floor. This is where you will get the bulk of the Driving opportunities off Dribble hand offs. Still it's up to the PG to decide what to do with the ball and he has the option of pulling it back out and starting over so to speak. He can call for a Screen at any time if he wants to drive.

In the end you have to have the confidence to make more decisions and break up the predictability of the half court sets. There's no reason not to look to be more aggressive when you see the team becoming stagnant offensively. The PG instincts should take over so that you can create better tempo for your team. The main thing is the aggressiveness that the guard plays with. The lanes and angles are there only for a brief time so you have to be ready.

This is the exact same offense we run now:

There really isn't anything stopping any of our guards from doing these things. It's a talent and confidence thing. You have to be able to drive the ball and finish effectively but still looking for your teammates as the D collapses. It's the same Drag Screens and Dribble hand offs that are available now. If Jerian was more confident he could do at least some of the things we saw Shved doing. He's not a great shooter but he could still knife through the defense off the same looks.

Well to be far to him he really hasn't gotten a chance. He'll need a injury to move up in the depth chart.

None of our guards are actually doing these things. Jerian has been very hesitant and scared with the ball and when he does try to be aggressive he's often not reading the play right and running into resistance at the rim or playing TOO FAST to be under control. I'm not saying he shouldn't be allowed to play thru these mistakes and hopefully gain more confidence but he hasn't shown he has the BB IQ to clearly see what the right decision should be. He also isn't a confident shooter and that also makes him a liability since defenses are GIVING him those shots. He will never be able to drive as long as he isn't a threat to hit his open shots.
