I don't know if anyone discussed it but I thought it was an ultra lame semi take off of the original. Princess Leah looked god awful the characters were lame except for the little droid it was lame darthvader would've killed fin with a light saber in 5 seconds and the girl in 10. I could go on and on but it was bad. I guess if you're 10 never saw Star Wars before it was good but I took it as cheesy when they had a good concept and just made brutal movie out of it. Only guy from the past that would've been acceptable was Luke

I haven't seen it, but from what I've read- and your take confirms- its largely what I expected from JJ Abrams after watching what he did with Star Trek.

Sad really.

Major Spoilers in my post. If you don't want to see them please do not read.

I actually loved the movie. I agree that there was a lot of callbacks to the 1st Star Wars movie. I did not mind the callbacks because I see this movie as a passing of the torch to a new set of movies and new characters. The older characters making appearances in this movie was another symbol of them passing the torch.

I loved most of the new characters. The girl who is now the 1st female Jedi who is also proficient in the force with no training at all. I love the humanization of the storm troopers. I like how FN 2187 is not 100% a good guy. He will lie to you to get what he wants but will ultimately do the right thing in the in end.

The lightsaber battles seemed more gritty in this movie than ever before. You can tell they were really trying to kill the other person and it did not seem like they were just doing fight scene choreography. You have to also admit that freezing the blaster fire in mid air at the last second was awesome.

Some scenes were beautifully shot. The best example coming from the Kylo Ren/Han Solo scene. The ray of light coming from the window had dual symbolism. The light shined on the new characters showing that they were good people but also shined on Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren also always has that red light shining on his face. I believe it was there to show that Kylo Ren was still struggling with the light/dark side. Once the ray of light died out it showed that he finally picked which side he would go with permanently.

The next movie can't have all of these callbacks to the old movies. They now have a firm foundation to build off of. I want to see them come up with new and creative story lines for all of these characters.

You can't compare Kylo Ren to Darth Vader. They were at different stages of their commitment to the dark side and their level of expertise in the force and lightsaber combat at the time their respective movies take place. While I believe you can't compare the 2 I believe that Kylo Ren should have still been able to take care of FN 2187 quickly.

I don't get what's wrong with the call backs? It's the sane universe. Same story line. You have to connect everything. It's the skywalker saga. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was fast paced and great actually. They could have added 20 mins of footage to clear stuff up but other than that it was excellent.

I really don't understand what people were expecting. I really enjoyed it. Was a nice little adventure.

Saw it twice already. LOVED IT! Not a perfect movie but really good. They should get better in the next episode. Can't really be too hard on this movie. The homage to the original is great for the young who are just coming on board and for us who have been along for the ride since the beginning. Now they are free to move on to more new territory.

I'm pretty much in this boat on all accounts. Was holding back my expectations and do expect a complete story and some character growth, man they have so much to work with and then bleh

I thought the movie was good overall, but I think they really screwed up with the Kylo Ren character. He just came across as too weak and immature to the point where he didn't feel like a threat, and you have to wonder how this kid was really the best general the Empire could find... Like I get the girl Jedi was supposed to be strong with the force and whatever, but this guy has been trained and been in the military for some time at this point. The fact that he could be defeated by a novice is just embarrassing and raises questions about the severity of the danger the character represents.

I think Kylo Ren was purposely meant to be weak and immature in this episode. Remember when we saw Vader in the movies he was a seasoned vet at being evil. Kylo Ren is still a rookie. He did not even fully commit to the dark side until he finally killed his father near the end of the movie. I think this is where the genius is. We are witnessing the rise of Darth Vader. I would consider Kylo Ren in this episode to be in the awkward teenager phase.

I enjoyed that though. He was conflicted. He obviously was trained very well but he's still young. I thought they did a good job getting the point across.

Only thing I hated was when Luke flipped off his hood at the end, lol. They could have donev without that. He's Luke Skywalker not Zoolander.

I think a better ending would have been with just the back shot and him never turning around just his robotic hand clinching again and again.

There are some theories out there that Ray may have been one of the students in Luke's daycare, um, I mean Jedi academy. There are also theories that Finn is force sensitive. I've seen the movies 3 times and I'm inclined to believe both theories. Still, Kylo Ren should've been able to kill both with ease.

i agree 100% about this post. the plot was completely take from episode 4 new hope (droid has plans to destroy yet another death star). repeating plots for future generations = is a common theme in anime and other genres. i have no problem with that

to my surprise the ACTING was great by the new heros. the girl was amazing, finn was funny and the pilot was cool. i look forward to their futures.

this was a passing of the torch movie. han was part of the old act but now he will be passed on to the new act

i didnt like kylo...reminded me of a bratty teenager but i appreciate his inner conflict. that should be interesting to watch.

lastly i agree...they used this movie to bridge to the next generation. so now i dont need to see leah, han, the stupid droidsagain.now lets focus on these new characters...where they came from and where theyre going

PS i really hope rey isnt simply the daughter of luke...jedis were supposed to be weird monks/hermits. it would be cool if she was some random girl who happens to be strong with the force

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I also noticed that they were pushing female empowerment really hard this episode. It started in the desert when she 1st met FN2187. When she was being attacked so they could steal the droid she beat them down before Finn was able to help her. When they were running from the storm troopers Finn grabs her hand and does the run while leading her to safety routine. She forces him to let go and then she save him instead. Han Solo also had a goofy look on his face every time she knew showing how knowledgeable she was in fixing and flying the millennium falcon. The most symbolic section they pushed female empowerment was when they did the callback to them rescuing the princess in the storm trooper base. Instead this time she was not helpless and ended up rescuing herself before meeting up with the other characters.

The passing of the torch didn't need a rehash of the same story. I like the new cast did not like the old cast and glad we have seen the last of Han Solo. Kylo Ren thing wasn't well thought out. He was supposed to have killed the last lot of Jedi trainees and he looked really weak. The dark side dude looked like an anorexic alien, with a bad skin disease.
