Makes a lot of sense.

We all know they need to upgrade the PG, but it'd be really nice to be able to move one of our bigs for a 2 or a 3.

Serafin is on a 1 year contract, so is really that much of an issue?

Yeah you had to figure that they fully realize KP is really showing promise at center. He looked good even in summer league but the way he's handling hisself as a NBA Center is shocking. Way ahead of schedule. I think we can expect some kind of trade to balance the roster and fill a need at guard.

I still can't believe it took him this long to realize that he has a special talent in KP. In fact, I can't believe how slow he is when it comes to utilize our over all talents. I am glad he is seing the light

No, but it's interesting to me in that they're already using KP as a 5 and Fisher is admitting he wants to use KP at the 5. I sort of thought they would shy away from admitting that for some reason.

And it gives me hope that they are aware that KP at the 5 and Melo at the 4 is a really good look for this team.

Makes me wonder if they'll make a move of some sort at the trade deadline if Fisher is already talking about roster make up.

Totally agree on both points. I don't think they thought he would look this good this early - or be this good on D at the 5. He's guarded Cousins and Towns and AD and countless others already though, and looked really good doing it.

The Knicks 29-6 run in the second quarter came with KP at the 5 and Melo at the 4 - it's just reassuring to see that Fisher kind of acknowledges that.

KP looks so much better than he did in the summer league in my opinion. I don't think anyone could anticipate this smooth of a transition. KP was being held out for injuries etc. and appeared a bit frail. He has been fantastic.

Still not easy for him to play significant minutes at 5 without wearing him down on the defensive end at this point in his career.

They really need to get him some open midrange touches on the offensive end. Pick and pop type Js. Doesn't mean he can't stretch things out, but 6 or his 14 shots were from 3, and some were not well conceived shots.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

The biggest surprise to me is how healthy the team has been, no one could have predicted that in a zillion yrs

Yes. They intended to kind of protect him but he has raised his game so much that it's changed everything. Now they have to make changes sinner than expected, which is a good thing.

They still aren't featuring KP to the degree they need to. There are tons of things in this offense they can use to get KP better looks. The curl off the down screen has worked but there are other things.

I agree it should be matchup dependent. But the offense clearly looks far better with Melo at the 4 and KP at the 5 for long stretches.

Shot selection for KP is something he's gotta get better on - I actually don't mind the aggression. He took one bad three tonight that seemed rushed. The other misses seemed a little rushed, maybe too anxious to impress while playing against Towns, but those are shots he normally makes.

Though I have noticed that he makes shots from the right side of the basket vs the left side of the basket. ( if you are looking at the basket) This shot chart backs it up, too...

I was ABOUT to make this point in terms of giving Phil a lot of credit. All of his signings are showing something significant, other than Lopez and Lopez mainly because they thought he'd be their man closer and go to 5 man, but Porzingis has emerged as their best. So now they have a bit of dilemma as to how to play.

On the bright side it's a good problem to have but Fish has to manage carefully. He overplays the bigger lineup, when he should be toning it down. There was no reason to close with Lopez/Porzingis/Melo tonight. You need to have a strong identity of who you want to close with, and who you want to start.

Lopez should be a starter up until the 6 min mark of each half, then move him to the bench. You bring him back in with the 2nd unit for a bit, and if he's playing really really well or Porzingis is in foul trouble, you close the half with him. It's not that hard, only that considering NY invested so much money in him and designed their defense around Lopez, I think they feel they owe him more PT.

I disagree about all the other bigs comments - because Quinn has been a great energy guy for 4 M a year. Seraphin was what a vet min guy? Derrick Williams is a wing, he's not a big at all.

The Knicks need a wing that can handle the ball, play the Pippen role obviously, but last time I checked in the league, there wasn't many players who were available like that. And Lance Thomas has been surprisingly solid.

We definitely need another ballhandling wing, the thing is it's not going to be easy to find that player and that sort of player wasn't available this past summer. Someone like Iguodala would be fantastic, but the W's won't let him go. Perhaps take a big run at Batum this summer, but I don't think he'll walk.
