Melo in the first half:

3 points on 3 shots but freakin killing it! 7 rebounds and 5 assists (could have been 8 to 10)

it was one of the best halfs I have ever seen him play. Look at the confidence of his teammates when the ball moves. Everyone is pumped and involved.

Edit: finished the game with 20 points 15 rebounds and 9!!!!!!! freakin assists. Me wants more.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Everyone questions why I expect so much. He is who he is, just appreciate it.

Well no! I know that he was capable of this if he was just willing to pass especially out of the double team. I have never ever seen him play like this.

The dude is very capable, but he must be surrounded with play/shot makers to showcase his true abilities. The Carmelo we saw tonight was never asked to run the point in the past which was a mistake if you ask me.

I predicted that he will soon regain his legs and carry this team within the next few months. He will soon win a couple player of the week soon

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

This was the sort of Paul Pierce type performance that I think Melo is absolutely capable of. Would like to see more of this from him, too. The offense was humming when he was moving the ball.

Where were you that you don't know MDA wanted MELO to play PF? Back then MELO pouted and didn't want to do it. IMO MELO wasn't fully healthy and was slumping but refused to accept having the ball in his hands and leading his team.

Melo has been playing this way almost all season. He played this way in Sacramento. In Portland he was hot and they needed a win, so he scored a lot. But he's been doing this most of the season. He had 8 assists vs Dallas last week.

last five games he's averaging 22pts 9rebs 5asts

His shot is not there, but his defense is and he's moving the ball well.

"Paul Pierce" Melo is all any of us critics ever wanted. I applaud his effort tonight.

Unfortunately for Him, we know he's now capable of unselfish ball. Will he sustain it now?

I know that I am being a bit of a debbie downer but I was so upset that in the last three minutes in the post everyone kept collapsing on him and he missed three wide open three point shooters that he refused to pass to because its still too hard for him to give up the ball in that spot. I really wanted the triple double for him. He deserved it tonight but just would not go for it.

As I said, I know Melo is capable of being a great passer if he just wants it and understands that dimes or much better than buckets.

Somebody is getting to him. Be it phil, fish or barkley. I don't care ... just DONT STOP!

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I would love to know the kinds of Zen mind games Phil plays on Melo. I'm sure he sends him weird **** in the mail all the time - books, VHS tapes of Jordan getting 15 assists one game, incense, stuff like that.

absolutely! Melo is not an easy guy to change. Quite stubborn in the way he sees himself. That is what has frustrated me.

Melo is no dominique, he is an elite passer if he wants. Not everyone can be that.

Melo definately has a hard time not trusting his teammates. Today was as smooth as you're going to see him. I'm sure they talked about it after that chuck last minute shot he took the other day.

gotta let the ball fly. He's their best player so the ball is coming back. It's ok to see if your guys can handle some of the weight.

The purpose of the triangle is to get everyone involved. It's not to get Melo shots. Melo can get any shot he wants at any time. I'm hoping we get to see his evolution from here on. We're on the right path.

Lets not get overboard. He is NOT an elite passer. Birdlike??? No F'in way. He is a decent passer. Look at those 2 passes in the 3rd. Absolutely horrible- an ELITE passesr NEVER would make those passes. He just needs to look for the open man.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Yeah, and yesterday's game was great. He's capable of being a good passer (not elite). If he's only going to hit 41% of his FGs, he's gotta find other ways to contribute. Yesterday's rebounding and assists were a great start.

Its pretty simple, if you can read the defense and your an elite scorer you can find the open man. To do that you have to see beyond trying to JUST score.
Melo had little to work with last year and he was hurt. Fish was rookie coach and trying to find his place.

Take a step back, this is just a glimpse of what the vision was for Melo. This is not easy, it just takes time.
If it comes, it will be inconsistent at first. Defense will shift and force other options.

It's nice that melo is passing more, but he's not that great of a facilitator, he had a few passes that were so bad just trying to do too much.
