Berman is reporting that the Pistons will be looking to trade Jennings once he returns in a few weeks from his achilles injury for some frontcourt depth since they have Reggie Jackson locked up as their starting pg.

He is on the final year of his contract worth about 5 mill this year and is looking to play big minutes to prove that he still has his explosiveness following the injury.

I was never a big fan of his; don't like that he's a career sub 40% shooter from the field with questionable shot selection, but if he still has his explosiveness, he is still one of the quickest point guards in the league who could push the pace and get to the rim at will, which is the most glaring need on our team right now.

Would you guys take a flier on him? He has something to prove being on the final year of his contract and coming back from serious injury looking for a payday in the offseason. If we can get them to take back Calderon and add a frontcourt player (Seraphin, DWILL?) would you consider it? I don't think it would take much to acquire him being that his value is fairly low right now. It would be a low risk, high reward move only for the year. He would also audition for us for maybe next year if he plays well. It kinda makes sense. Any thoughts?

I expect that something will be done. We have an imbalance with bigs and it only makes sense to look for some guard help. Jennings is one option. I wonder how Phil feels about his game tho. I find it odd that such a thin guy had an achilles injury. You would think Jennings had the kind of build that would never suffer that kind of injury. I could imagine a broken bone from being so thin and maybe taking some hard contact but the achilles seems strange.

Never like that dude. I pray to God we don't pursue this cat. Bledsoe needs to be our target
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Tough situation to be honest.

Brandon Jennings:
-is very athletic-can push the pace and actually convert fast break opportunities. Something that we can really use
-Can drive and get to the rim- Aren't we still last in Pts in the paint?
-Has an expiring contract- we can offload someone and get even more cap space in the summer
-Create his own shot
-Okay 3pt shot
-Really good passer

Cons:
-Pretty low Bball IQ. Sometimes I don't know who is worse him or JR in terms of stupid plays/ shot selection. I remember last season I saw one play when he caught the ball right under the rim, dribbled out and bricked the shot from 15 ft

-Torrid shooter--Just under 50% TS and FG. How would this work in a system that gives the midrange J on a silver platter?
-Is not that great of a defender

Never been a fan of him as a player...but a deal with him could improve our cap space this summer no?

As much as people don't like him, it's sad to say this but he would be the best guard on the roster, while increasing cap space, especially if Calderon is involved. It makes since from all counts and for both teams.

Before we start discussing taking fliers or how much better he is than Calderone we have to consider he is coming off a bad injury and one that takes a long time to get back from. Secondly is I don't think this guy fits the mold as the type of guard that has been in phil's system. At 6-1 the little guards he has had were very good shooters. Very good.

Of not for that I'd be ok with having him lead an uptempo second unit, but I don't think so. While I don't see Calderon a long term solutions he is solid and exhibits leadership.

Berman is throwing around Grant as trade fodder. Just because he has not played on the road trip much does not mean he is done. Or lets say, "Should not be done".

maybe he could find a more mature shot selection this year - but then he may get paid big $.

I don't see him as a good fit- as much as I'd want his physical skills, we don't need a PG shooting under 40% when we already have one volume shooter in that territory

Jeremy Lin & Alexy Shved were the PGs Phil should have brought in.

No thanks. We need to assemble high IQ ball players. We can easily find a Jennings for cheap

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

I would rather give Jimmer a try. Plus, we can recycle that "Coming Home" video for Jimmer.

We giving up on Galloway and Grant already?

My take is look at the contending teams that have a young PG on the bench who they don't trust yet but has potential. For an upgrade NOW for an experienced player with good shooting skills. That's Jose. The mystery player is not one that comes in and changes our season but becomes part of the rebuild. WE might have that already in Grant and Galloway.

TO find a player midseason who is triangle savvy (no, its not going away) that can start and make an impact is not likely unless someone offers us good value for Jose.

We might have a logjam in the front court but someone is gonna get hurt. Someone always get hurt.

Im not ready to give up on anyone other than Sasha but at 1.5mil and we invited him here I don't think its cool to trade FA's unless they are very happy to be.

I don't see Jennings fitting here. I can't see Phil wanting him for the Triangle.

Point guards are at an absolute premium around the league though. It's going to be tough to upgrade the position outside of a draft pick, I think. Conley is going to get $20M from Memphis or someone.

Exactly.

Besides, i think the problem lays more with coaching subs rather than player personnel.

Problem is we just don't know how good our team is, or isn't. Its obvious to pick some things apart but the sub pattern "problem" is also some players are a bit inconsistent. Where is Gallo's shot? KOQ freezing with the ball and Dwilliams is spazzing with some delusional weird Gerald Wallace wannabe game. Dude has the motor and the hopes, but instinctively does not have the IQ and thinking slows him down.
Will he "Get it"? I don't know.

Jennings would be a solid gamble if we don't have to give up much.

jennings is a loser. there's a reason certain players get traded often. if detroit trades him it means 3 teams in 6 years.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

I think the problem with trying to trade for him at a reasonable cost would be that there will be 4/5 really bad teams that will trade give Detroit more than us for him just to sell tickets or just for what he can do on offense.

#1 He doesn't fit
#2 He makes 8mil in salary cap which we would have to match. (D.Williams & Seraphin)
#3 Piston screwed up by trading Brandon Knight rather then developing him. They had him and Drummond.
#4 Don't know why Pistons didn't look to trade Greg Monroe last season and get a future pick back since they were going to lose him for nothing anyway

These are the same minds that said we should sign Draymond Green and Danny Green with our cap room last summer.

They think great players will just flock to New York, contract or no.
