I do have concern here. First off he may be over-doing it training wise.

Secondly he will have to be careful in his career with his size. Thats one reason why I like him @ center. He sets up in limited space cutting down movement. He doesnt have to over train his body for speed jumping ability etc.. thats why I said he should train like a Jabbar or a Mchale--not a mobile PF or SF. Hes 7-3 and there is NO other player in NBA history who played a NON C position at that height.

I don't think anyone thinks it is BS - just concerning to read news about the knee with no link.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

What the phuck is an IT Band strain?

http://www.northjersey.com/sports/knicks-kristaps-porzingis-sidelined-with-knee-strain-1.1423171

Porzingis suffered what the Knicks said was a mild IT Band strain in his left knee during the team’s night workout Wednesday, and he participated in some of Thursday’s workout, but was held out of all of the contact portion of the practice.

Sounds like he may have to lower his intake from 3 steaks to 2 steaks a day or downsize to a burger maybe. Could be the additional pounds, maybe just maintain for now.

Lou Amundson strained his back too. It F'n Training Camp! They said it's just precautionary. They don't want to take any chances on serious injury after what happened last year. I'm glad that they're being much more cautious with a young kid like KP.

The two-a-days finally got to Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis.
In what is the Knicks biggest fear, the 7-foot-3 first-round pick was sidelined for much of Thursday’s practice because of a sore left knee, missing the 5-on-5 scrimmage on the third day of sessions at West Point’s Christl Arena.

Porzingis said he expects to be back Friday after tweaking his knee during a 5-on-zero halfcourt drill.
“Just for cautious reasons I’m not practicing today, but I’ll be practicing tomorrow,’’ Porzingis said. “Just like from a wrong movement – a little pain, little pinch in the knee.’’
Porzingis said he wouldn’t classify it as a strain. Derek Fisher said Porzingis tweaked his “IT band,’’ an injury related to overuse.
Porzingis participated in the first half-hour of practice before sitting out the hour-long scrimmages. The Knicks will treat their No. 4 overall pick, whose build could be susceptible to injury, with extreme caution this early in his development.

“Our group is being cautious, and see how frustrated he was not to finish it,’’ Fisher said. “It’s a concern for all of our players, particularly young players still developing as men at 19 years old [Porzingis is 20] and 7-feet. He’s actually still growing. It’s something you have to be conscious of. We have individualized programs of development, and a big part of his is keeping him healthy and at times we have to make decisions to protect himself.’’

Porzingis said his Spanish league team had two-a-day practices last fall, but “it’s more intense here.’’
“They just want to make sure I’m totally healthy,’’ Porzingis said. “Just got to be careful.’’

Porzingis suffered a hip injury during his pre-draft workout with the Knicks, but that red flag didn’t stop Phil Jackson from drafting the Latvian native. Porzingis held up well during four games at July’s Las Vegas summer league, and Fisher thinks Porzingis is in better shape now and stronger. Porzingis has put on 11 pounds since weight training with the Knicks started in late July.

“Physically, he’s definitely filled out some and gotten stronger,’’ Fisher said. “He just looks more sure of what’s going to happen. When you don’t know what something feels like, it’s tough to feel confident. He just seems more settled on what to expect playing in the NBA – the size and strength of what he’ll be playing against. There’s a more relaxed nature. He’s more fit, stronger and in better shape.’’

The Knicks’ scrimmages Thursday were physical, highlighted by center Kevin Seraphin throwing down big man Kyle O’Quinn. Porzingis said it’s a good to be going against a beefy player such as Seraphin.

“He’s a huge dude,’’ Porzingis said. “It’s good for me to go up against him. He’s very heavy and big. Just to prepare myself for what’s ahead. He’s one the biggest dudes there are. That’s a good test for me in practices. Once the season starts, I’ll be used to it.’’

Porzingis still believes he’s in better condition than he’s ever been.

“I’m getting in better shape than I was in summer league,’’ Porzingis said. “I was coming off an injury that I had. I just had a week or so to prepare. One of the reasons I’m sitting out today was they’re telling me to look in the long run and be in great shape for the season and be ready for the season.’’

This is my big worry for KP. I hate to say it, but I keep thinking of Yao Ming when I think of KP. :(

Fingers crossed. But I worried when Phil said the Knicks were trying to "expedite" the development of his body. Don't try to freaking expedite it! Let him come along naturally!

This kind of stuff happens. I believe Myles Turner sat out one of Indy's practices. It's training camp people, relax a bit.

Funny, I was just talking to my PT about IT band. Runners suffer from ailments to this ligament a lot, runs from hip to knee.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS)

The ITB (also called the iliotibial band or iliotibilal tract) is a thick, fibrous tendon that runs along the outside of each leg. These bands run from the iliac (crest of the pelvis), over the greater trochanter at the side of the hip, down the leg, and inserts on the outside of the knee at the top of the tibia (tibial tubercle). Each ITB works with the thigh muscles during flexion and extension of the knee to slow you down when running and helps provide stability to the knee joints.

Iliotibial band syndrome causes pain near the knee and side of the hip.
Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) is a common condition in athletes, especially runners and cyclists, and occurs when the IT band becomes irritated, inflamed and tight. Excessive rubbing of the IT band over the tibial tubercle (bony prominence at the outside of the knee) is a common cause of the irritation that leads to inflammation, tightness and pain. In addition to knee pain, soreness in the hip may also occur.

Dam. Sounds like it could be related from his earlier injury back in summer league. It was a hip issue before, now it's his knee. The IT Band runs from the hip to the knee...hopefully just coincidence.

Better safe and cautious, then Derrick Rose status I say.

I dont think anyone can comprehend what is 7-3. No player in history has played a non C position at that size. While I hope he can work hard--Knicks may need to be smart with KP from day 1. like Cryz says-- we dont want Yao Ming#2

Id keep him within 10 feet of the basket and learn every post move I could. he has the 10-12 ft jumpshot down. Moving him past 10 out to 3 puts him in position where he will use his body in a much more active way (unless hes a 7-3 steve novak) We dont want running and cutting--we want straight line and set up.

I've said I think he may be our center (at least part of the time) down the road and I like him playing closer to the basket as opposed to jacking up long jump shots.

Rick Smits anyone?

I can't determine if Jerry Reese and Tom Couglin have taken over the Knicks or Isaiah Thomas and Jimmy Dolan have taken over the Giants.

Both franchises just amaze with their assortment of injuries and crack training staffs.

Rick Smits anyone?

What the Freak does this injury have to do with him posting up, which I might add is WAY more strenuous than being a shooter from the perimeter! KP is still gonna do a lot of running and he's young and still growing into his frame. There was a freak out when he tweaked his hip and now this. People need to relax and let the kid go thru his 1st season. I'm sure his going up against Seraphin in practice was pretty fatiguing. KP talks about that a lot. He also talks about the two a day practices and perhaps he is just feeling it like most players do, but this is a young guy trying to deal with the work load.

“It’s just like a wrong movement and a got a little pinch in the knee,” the 7-3 power forward said after practice. “But it’s fine. I practiced today limited and then they pulled me off. Tomorrow I’ll be going 100 percent.”

Porzingis said it was a non-contact injury suffered in a drill with no defenders.

He was examined by the team’s medical staff but no tests were performed. Fisher said Porzingis “tweaked his IT band”, an injury that is sometimes related to overuse.

“Five-on-zero [drill] just something happened. It’s not a big deal,” he said.

“It’s two hard practices everyday so that probably -- my legs, little sore -- so maybe that’s what caused the whole thing on the knee,” Porzingis said.

The knee injury aside, teammates and coaches have been impressed with the 20-year-old Latvian thus far.

Fisher sees a different player than the one he coached in Summer League.

“I think physically he’s definitely filled out some and is stronger. I think he just looks more sure of what’s going to happen,” Fisher said. “When you don’t really know what something feels like it’s tough to go out and feel comfortable and confident in who you are. He just seems more settled in terms of what to expect playing in the NBA. The size and strength of guys that he’s going to be playing against -- there’s a more relaxed nature that you see.”
