“I’d take him anywhere,’’ Coach K added. “He’s been committed since 2004 — he and LeBron. Carmelo is a great guy, not just a great player. In the first meeting (Monday night), looking at the group, he’s so excited to be here — a kid in a candy store. That’s pretty darn good. … (James), Melo, Chris, they are USA Basketball.”

I believe Melo gets excited playing alongside LBJ and other top players. It is why he is bent on playing with the Olympic team, why he wanted to play in the All Star game......and why I ultimately believe he will want to be traded from the Knicks if they are only mediocre this year.

I like when Melo comes off a summer playing with the Olympic team. I think it sets the right mentality he needs to play with. Thinking more about the Team than himself.

I think Melo will really like this current Knicks team. There's more support on this roster than he had last year. There's more defensive talent and should be more offensive help as well.

The main thing he will be excited for is more "consistency" from his role players.

I think he likes the current roster too, he just wished he had one of his star buddies with him. CP3 should be a Knick, but we all know about that.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

I am beyond amused at this "hater" happy horse ****. That's what it is, a bunch of happy horse ****.

Melo will be entering into his 14th professional season in the NBA and has logged over 30K minutes in his career, and yet many here still talk about "Well Melo, I can see him changing, I can see him finally buying in and playing team ball"

I could care less about his individual achievements, his branding, what he does outside of the Knicks to enhance his marketability, the core issue comes down the same few things

1) Does he play and conduct himself in a fashion to help the Knicks win more than lose?

2) Does he play and conduct himself in a fashion that represents himself as a leader, a status incurred by his tenure and "status" in the league, and make the players around him better?

3) Does he play and conduct himself in a manner where he represents doing, at least, the BARE MINIMUM required of an NBA player to show true professionalism?

4) In context, to the current team and regime, can he fit, in a practical sense, into the Triangle Offense.

I keep seeing over and over, SOME people here talk about Melo finding a way to suddenly reverse course beyond his established playing style after 13 years in the league and after 30K plus minutes on the court, to suddenly do things like play well off the ball, commit to defense, read the floor, operate as an effective passer. What Melo does well (or chooses to do) is not a seamless fit into the Triangle Offense, in fact, he is really a poor fit into said offense.

Melo is not an efficient player. He often shows up in non elite condition. He chooses to simply not give a flying **** about playing any kind of real defense. He has shown the propensity to leverage his agency and his contacts in the media to go on the offensive to anyone and anything that challenges his "spotlight" in NY. He says many morale killing and anti team related things in the press, only to have to stage transparent photo ops/softball type interviews to try to patch up his foot in mouth syndrome.

The criticisms to Melo's game and approach, as it impacts winning ( or lack of winning) are real, they are obvious, they are discussed even outside this forum and by noted and established sports media and sports analysts.

Some of you care more about enabling Melo's lackluster behavior, his lack of leadership and professionalism and seem to care more about his brand, his career earnings, his individual accomplishments, rather than IF HE ACTUALLY HELPS THE KNICKS WIN BASKETBALL GAMES.

Many of you are traitors in my book. The name on the back of the jersey means more than the team name on the front. You'd rather talk about how much Melo has made in his basketball career instead of him doing what is needed for the team to win.

Or perhaps you have an unrealistic standard for melo but forgetting there is not another player available in inventory waiting to take the role of First team MVP. Some of the better players, Harden and Durant have very good team around them.

Im not delusional to think Melo will change but its been a while since he was on a team that he did not have to carry. Melo is not Lebron or in prime Kobe.

If willing and able maybe he can change his stripes. Thats why they play games and its why we tune in.

We'll see.

I think this group is gonna be good for Melo. He will have some solid guys who are more dependable. There's enough shooting, posting, passing and penetration to make this offense click much more than last year. The overall BB IQ and skill level on this roster is higher. In this kind of Motion Offense Melo is going into his 2nd year and that should help to make him more comfortable and effective but also more aware of the passing angles.

It's not so much about Melo changing as it is about him being put in a different situation and finding more options available to him. In a high ISO offense there are passing options but they can be more difficult to pick up. In the Triangle Melo will have cutters and guys presenting themselves for passes in a much more predictable way and the passes are shorter and more direct. With more actual scorers and finishers on this roster, I would expect Melo to be more willing to make the pass and for his teammates to convert more of his passes. I'm banking on Melo having a better assist year despite the Naysayers.

You signed up during Linsanity and your posts are generally Melo hate, Lin love/conspiracy theories. Not sure why posters would be considered traitors if they root for players on the Knicks and that includes Melo. I think if you polled people you would find that a lot of guys here defend Melo from the hate more than love Melo.

Melo isn't at the top of the list of Elite Players. He's really good but he's not the top tier. When you accept that and look to not just him but the rest of the team then you can really address the failings of the team and what needs to happen is for the rest of the team to improve and play better. There's too much focus on Melo as an individual.

Last season being Melo's 1st in the Triangle, being injured, plus the dysfunction at other positions make it hard to really judge how he'll be in this system based on last year. I think he's going to be much better with this roster. Melo's Assist % rose last year to 18% from 15.8% and I expect that it might rise again this year and beyond.

It's been the failures among the rest of the players that have doomed this team. This is really about improving the quality of the rest of the roster. We need for this team to play better than the sum of it's parts. Defend better, Rebound better and play more efficient offensively. That's what Phil has tried to do with this roster this summer. Now we have to see how it develops.

PLAY DEFENSE

KEEP MOUTH SHUT TO THE PRESS WITH ANTI TEAM/DIVISIVE/SELFISH/CONTROVERSIAL COMMENTARY

SHOW UP IN ELITE PHYSICAL CONDITION/SHAPE RELATIVE TO THE STANDARD OF OTHER ELITE PLAYERS IN YOUR RESPECTIVE SPORT

BE A LEADER, EITHER OVERTLY OR THROUGH EXAMPLE

These are outrageous demands? This is the BARE MINIMUM expected of ANY NBA PLAYER by their franchises. It's the BARE MINIMUM EXPECTED of any professional athlete.

A lot of defense is JUST RAW EFFORT.

You play defense in the NBA, you help your team win. You don't, you help your team lose. How the flying **** is that complicated?

Melo is an elite/lethal 1 vs 1 isolation gunner, he is not however a team basketball player nor, in the context of helping the team win, does he play the "right way" Every excuse for Melo's behavior/team killing behavior ( he's never had enough help, look at this individual random award he won, look what did in college nearly two decades ago, look at what he did with a virtual All Star/ future HOF team in Team USA, so why are you jealous, and on and on and on with that bull****) is just a way of saying - I'd rather see the Knicks lose than openly acknowledge the things Melo does to help this team lose instead of win.

Playing Knicks basketball should be about team work, about excellence, about grit, about never giving up, about playing the game the right way.

Many of you enable Melo to the point of shamefulness. It's shameful to see people who call themselves Knicks fans set the bar so damn low on what it should mean to wear that jersey. Putting on that jersey should represent excellence. It should mean excellence is the minimum standard. This entire "well he's better than nothing" routine is just sad.

Sorry for having the outrageous " too much expectation " of wanting anyone who puts on that Knicks jersey to represent excellence.

GET A DEAD FRANCHISE TO THE PLAYOFFS.

ACTUALLY MAKE BASKETBALL RELEVANT IN NEW YORK AGAIN, WHICH WAS PRECEDED BY 6 - 7 YEARS OF USELESS BACKPAGE GARBAGE.

MAKE BUCKETS. LOTS OF THEM.

HIT SOME BIG SHOTS, MAKE MORE HAPPY HORSESHIT MEMORIES THAN THE 15 MINUTES OF TRULY USELESS, NON-REPEATABLE HORSESHIT THAT LINSANITY ENDED UP REPRESENTING THAT SOME ON HERE CREAM OVER TO SUPPLEMENT THEIR MELO HATE.

ACTUALLY COME TO PLAY AND STAY IN NEW YORK. UNLIKE THE OTHER ELITES WHO HAVE TO HAVE A CADRE OF FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH.

People were screaming to tank, to get draft picks, to get some real basketball minds in management positions, to do anything. The tanking happened, the house has been cleaned out.

We're in a thread about Coach K commenting on Melo's attitude, his commitment to playing for Team USA. And what do we read?

All about his ineptitude, his inability to care about anything but money, and piles of other dog**** that gets re-typed over and over again by whining miscreants who haven't done ****, wouldn't piss on a fire in Redhook, let alone donate any time or money, and couldn't carry lint from his jock with both hands. As if you are measuring the cellulite on his azz everyday. Stop sucking on his imaginary lovehandles for second.

Most of the Pro-Melo folks in here didn't give a sheet about him until the name on his jersey changed to ours. Stop the bs crap about treason. The man's a Knick. The only feckin thing you're loyal to is your azzhole opinion.

Take your true Knick fandom and go gargle on some of Gallo or Lin's bloodfarts. If you can get tkf out of your way first.
