Quotes from the Ian Begley article at ESPN

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/13419864/carmelo-anthony-says-new-york-knicks-did-great-job-draft-free-agency

On free agency:

"Honestly, I thought we did a great job just as far as putting the pieces that we need to put together. We didn't get DeAndre [Jordan], we didn't get LaMarcus [Aldridge] and Greg Monroe, but [Robin] Lopez is a great addition. Arron Afflalo, I played with him a long time in Denver. [Kyle] O'Quinn is a great pickup; I think guys will like him. He's a big guy, power forward. Derrick Williams, we're going to get him right. He seemed focused. And then rookies, KP [Porzingis], I had him with me last week working out at my gym. We're just trying to start this thing off right."

Asked about reports that he had reservations about the Knicks' free-agent pickups and their decision to draft Porzingis, Anthony replied, "I never said that s---. Whatever rumors that you guys heard about me or about Phil [Jackson], about Porzingis, about anybody -- it's all false."

On Porzingis:

Anthony also had high praise for Porzingis, the 19-year-old Latvian big man drafted by New York with the fourth overall pick.

"He's a down-to-earth guy, a humble guy. You can tell that he's got a chip on his shoulder, which I love that. ... You kind of have to have that being in New York."

Anthony, 31, was asked about the notion that, by drafting Porzingis, the Knicks showed they are no longer building a team that will be ready to win while he is in his prime.

"When you look at the draft, you want somebody that you can develop right away. Porzingis is a guy who has some upside to him. Did we get one of the top three [draft picks]? No, we didn't get one of the top three. Whoever we drafted, it was going to be an issue anyway," Anthony said. "That's just what happens in New York and the draft. But I'm good, man, mentally, physically, spiritually. I'm excited about the new team that we have and I look forward to leading them."

Some takeaways:
- O'Quinn is the third FA pickup mentioned after RoLo and Afflalo and Melo says he is a "great pickup." Melo also says he's a power forward; I think most of us on here had KOQ pegged as a C. for his career, his per-36 averages - 13 points, 11 rebounds (3 offensive), 2 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal. it wouldn't surprise me if they are committed to getting him 25+ minutes a night with the second team.
- on D-Will - Melo's quote - "we'll get him right. he seemed focused" - implies that Melo was involved with the Phront Office in that negotiation and signing. I'm also more excited about the Williams signing than most - Williams had said in interviews he wanted to play in the Triangle, understands the offense from watching it growing up a Lakers fan in LA, that he spoke with Phil and told him cuts he'd make and certain actions in the Triangle, all of that leads me to believe he can find his footing and maybe reach some of the potential that made him the 2nd overall pick.
- KP has won over Melo, just as he won over the Knicks fans at summer league and just as he won over the Phront Office going into the draft. the guy is a winner. can't wait to watch him develop.

Of course Melo isnt gonna say anything negative to the public so i do take what he says with a grain of salt. However me personally im happy with the offseason. The Williams signing is the only one i didnt like. I hoping Melo FINALLY buys into the team structure and defense. If he does the Knicks could surprise people this year

I are kidding me, I don't even care for this guy too much, but to say he's lying and SAS is telling the truth, is bias and silly. Like you wanted him to come out and say something negative. Let the guy be who he is, a scorer, and stop wishing he was this all around utility player.

Is this possible, before he corrupts our youth?

Next thing you know Kristaps will get WB tattoed on his shoulder and wear a headband...

Just saw this in the Post. Hopefully it resolves the speculation on what people think Melo thought about the offseason.
“You know why I’m bothered by that?’’ he said. “Because I haven’t said none of it. That’s why I’m bothered. It’s always speculation. I try to [keep the] summer to myself and get away from the media. Then somehow it comes back to me. I don’t get upset at that, but does it get overwhelming sometimes, yeah. But it’s the life I live. I haven’t said none of that [stuff]. Whatever rumors you guys heard about me and Phil, about Porzingis, it’s all false.
“Nobody talked to me. Nobody heard me say anything as far as me being unhappy. Life is too good to be unhappy.’’

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/knicks-porzingis-pf-commitment-scared-lamarcus-aldridge-article-1.2322549

Considering Aldridge signed with the Spurs, it’s fair to ask whether he actually considered the Knicks coming off a 17-win season. Apparently he was interested – even to the point of recruiting other players to join him.

“Melo and I talked a little bit over text and we have mutual friends that passed messages along. I was interested,” Aldridge said. “I talked to other guys to see if they were interested in going there too. I was interested but when they say they want me to play a position that I don’t want to play, I get it.”

this is why Im glad I didnt bother to participate in the 80 thread multiple discussions on this topic. Looks like chuckbuck has taken over leadership of the Anti-Melo Jihad movement. It was ALLLLLL bull-sheet. Aw... so sad, Melo haters were all wrong all along. Time to go back to basketball reference, find some stat that says Melo is a bad player and start a new thread. Yawn... looking forward to upcoming season, and some actual basketball.

"most" people dont even care about that... however this forum is not most people and is dominated by folks who most certainly DO care. In any case I could care less about discussing that.

Bottom line is the guy takes the summer to rest and recoup, all the quotes about his "feelings" were bull, he's healthy and looks great and I expect the Melo we saw the prior two season before this last debacle of a season. He will have a good supporting cast. This should be a decent team with a ton of upside

That's basically it.

Can he average 5 assists a game this season? Can a zebra change his stripes?

Can he shoot 50% from the field? Can he play better defense instead of arguing with a ref on a no call?

"Most" people know the answer to these questions.

You did a poll on whether Phil and Melo are at odds. You don't care about this?
Phil and Melo have not talked in a while.
Phil perhaps did not sign players that Melo is happy with.
Melo did not show up to summer league.
Phil made some comments that perhaps can be taken as jabs.
KMart speaking out on Melo's behalf that Melo is not meant to go through a rebuild.
Phil signs 2 good guys in Lou and LT to perhaps even out the locker room vibe so that the young players can be in a non toxic environment.
I personally am certain that there is a chess match going on though some are certainly going to say that its all smoke and mirrors.

or we can see the melo from last year and we crash a burn again and were phucked without a pick. it can go either way.

I could see us winning anywhere from 25 to 45 games.

we can also easily have a melo trade (if healthy) if it looks like things are going south.

I can see Kobe here next year if Lakers are moving on. Not saying I like that, but that's next year.

Its pretty easy to just not pay attention to what players say but instead just focus on what they do. If Melo is a knick he will say all the right things until he decides he wants out publically.
Was SAS on point? I don't know. What melo says privately to SAS is not for us to know. Melo did not support the statement.

My take is Melo will try to be a Triangle guy and if it don't work I can see both sides mutually deciding to part ways. To me its just business. For some, its a personal affront.

yeah not really. There was so much crap going back and forth between posters so I made a poll (big freakin deal). Not much else to do in the dog days.

if you are so interested in my previous posts you will see that I care mostly about his selfish play and don't care much about the other stuff. I also don't really dislike him off the court.

That'd be 40 to 50 shot attempts between them if that ever happened!!!!

Maybe we should call up Stephon Marbury, Steve Franchise, and Al Harrington to see who can chuck it up the most!
