Carmelo Anthony chose not to come to Las Vegas to catch a Knicks summer league game or attend the Players Choice Awards or union meetings, but he will be descending on Sin City next month for the red, white and blue.
According to a source, Anthony has informed U.S. Olympic Team officials he will attend the Aug. 11-13 minicamp as the team gears up for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Anthony is still rehabbing from February’s left-knee surgery so he will not be a fully active participant, according to a source. Team USA CEO Jerry Colangelo has encouraged roster members to come to the minicamp even if they can’t play due to injury.
Following surgery to repair his torn patellar tendon, Anthony was deemed out four-to-six months, meaning he’s on the very early fringes of his return. He is back on the court doing some basketball activities such as shooting and probably would participate similarly in Vegas.
Team USA will hold practices Aug. 11 and 12 in Vegas and participate in a Blue-White intrasquad scrimmage Aug. 13. Colangelo is selecting the Olympic Team from a roster of roughly 34 players and Team USA has yet to announce who will attend the minicamp.
Anthony has not been definitive on his desire to play for the team, but his Vegas appearance would demonstrate his commitment. He played for the disappointing bronze-medal 2004 squad and won gold in 2008 and 2012. Anthony, who hasn’t made any of the three All-NBA teams the past two seasons, is not a shoo-in for the squad but is considered the prototype international player because of his ability to play all three frontcourt positions.
Anthony’s thinking on the Knicks’ recent additions still remains at issue. He has refuted reports he was unhappy with the Kristaps Porzingis pick. However, The Post has reported he was disappointed his buddy Tim Hardaway Jr. was traded on draft night for Jerian Grant, a player Anthony barely had seen play.
President Phil Jackson’s remark during summer league he hadn’t spoken recently to Anthony also sparked speculation Anthony is out of the free-agent loop. However, The Post reported general manager Steve Mills gave the team’s highest-paid player the blow-by-blow on the team’s modest moves and Anthony is bothered he’s been branded a summer malcontent.

maybe this dunce should give up being the center of an entourage. someone always betrays him by leaking his chronic foolishness to the press.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Already won an NCAA Title, and two with Team USA.

This cool.
But as any champion he need a shot on more.
With Olympics team it is a real possibility.... in NBA not so much for him.

Good thing this news came out. Was a tough week for the vultures with KP and Grant saying Melo has reached out and they have been in touch. Pretty sure he even met with Grant shortly after the draft based on the article Grant wrote. We needed to bring up summer league again. This was a great opportunity to talk about how he wasn't supporting guys who won't be on their roster.

The point of the picture with Melo grimacing?

Never hurts to get in some workouts with the cream of the crop, both coaches and players. Get in some reps, continue to ease into basketball activity and transition into training camp. Sounds good to me.

He's working out his groin muscles. Can't a brotha massage his groin in a USA uni in peace?

Guess being around USA Bball beats bonding with your new co-workers anyday.

I suspect the irony that everything he does seems so prepackaged, fake and lacks any semblance of the concept of "genuine"

Why was Jeremy Lin was popular? Just because he was Asian taking it to a league usually full of a bunch of ignorant yos looking for the next big shoe deal who got to coast by in college because they could jump out of a gym?

Lin was humble and genuine. He appeared to actually love the game of basketball. He appeared to actually care and like his team mates. He appeared to want to be part of a team.

The sad and bitter tragedy of Melo and his "branding" is he has the common sense of a guy trying to desperately squeeze a bar of soap as tight as he can. Slips right out of your hand. He wants to be a famous and beloved by the public as possible, yet does everything as fabricated and calculated as he can to get there. It's like watching someone on a cheap reality show throwing a tantrum because they know it will get them a little bit more camera time.

Doing the right thing. Playing the right way. Being a leader. Actually embracing the team concept. Sacrificing for the greater good of winning above all else. If Melo simply put in the work and effort to play and lead the right way, then the winning and money and fame, those things would all take care of themselves.

Ever hear of a kid who works five times as hard to set up to cheat on a test than if he just studied as hard as he could, did the work and played it straight?

Back when I said the team should have simply built around Lin and traded Melo as fast as possible, many people here mocked me and laughed at what I said, and I said the Knicks would at least be playing real team basketball. And yet here the Knicks are, years later, with Melo being the common denominator, STILL TRYING TO GET TOGETHER THE CONCEPT OF PLAYING BASIC TEAM BASKETBALL.

No one "hates" Carmelo Anthony. It's just that some of us here have no incentive to root for a jack off.

Splat was right. Character = Destiny.

Agree with everything you said except the Lin part. Had his 2 week run with D'Antoni, but so did so many others. Chris Duhon averaged 7 assists in one season under D'Antoni. Kendall Marshall averaged nearly 9 assists under's D'Antoni. Only non fluke point under D'Antoni was Steve Nash, who was already a very good player in Dallas.

There's no way you can build with Lin. Nice kid, but not a franchise player. He's a nice backup point guard, nothing more. 15-20 minutes a game is his sweet spot.

He should have some really sweet moments in Charlotte backing up Kemba.

I can't figure out what this has to do with attending team USA mini camp. Practicing with the best in the world=bad? How does this hurt the Knicks? In regards to Lin, let's be honest and say he made a business decision when he signed the poison pill deal in Houston. Lin sat out the playoffs, sat out from Team USA because he didn't want to jeopardize his free agency, and fired his agent to go with a bigger firm to handle his free agency. Lin was a businessman and got the best deal he could. But his actions and the deal he got were about getting what was best for Jeremy Lin. He genuinely wanted as much money as he could get and was willing to put the franchise he played for in a compromised position to get it.

Ah got it. Wasn't genuine. I just assumed it was guys on here getting enjoyment out of another man being in pain. Fortunately we don't have any *******s like that on here. Did they bring the Paul Pierce wheel chair out for him? Just the groin, can't hurt THAT bad.

Not sure how the thread topic here, Melo attending a mini camp, comes with any negatives. I guess we can be pissed he didn't invite the summer league team to dinner and cost us Ndour.

And here I was, thinking that you were attempting to point out that he might be putting himself into some kind of jeopardy like others who have been injured playing with Team USA.
