Im still hoping grant will start. Even though im not a calderon fan i hope he proves me wrong and has a good year. If nothing else it might help his trade value at the deadline

He got hurt in camp last season, not before.

That's the thing about injuries, they can happen anywhere at any time. You can punch a fire extinguisher walking in the hallway and need 40 stitches, or you can try and save a ball from going out of bounds and rip your ACL .

Tweet that your Just coming to camp focus and determine, i could ride with that.

Good news. I want Grant to start, but Id like to see him outplay a healthy Calderon to do it.

Grants not a starter, at least not at the beginning of the season

My thoughts, exactly.

Which is why I said that I wanted Grant to outplay the guy ahead of him on the depth chart.

Not sure how you can know that at this point. We'll have to see how he progresses in Training Camp and Pre Season. Grant is going to be 23 yrs old at the start of next season. He's not your typical rookie who is far away from starting. I'm not saying he's a lock to start. Just that I think he has a shot to get the nod. I think he's that good. At the least he's gonna be a better option on defense and can't be that far off on Offense from what we'd get from Jose. They're two different players so Jose has him beat in terms of shooting but Jerian has him at everything else IMO.

calderon is utterly expendable. i don't understand the need for this type of non-defender on the team except for the purpose of chewing up empty minutes while grant gets his sea legs. triangle needs defenders and rebounders. galloway can serve as backup at both backcourt positions.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Only reason Calderón starts is his salary.

He can run a little pick and roll/pick and pop, but as a defender, a complete liability. Can't penetrate in the lane for the life of him to create for himself or others.

Can keep the starter seat warm until Grant inevitably overtakes him.

We have really poor depth at the guard positions.

I suppose we see most of the minutes split up between Calderon, Grant, and Galloway, with Lance Thomas as the low minute backup?

I reck we really wanted Ledo or TA to really distinguish themselves in summer league play as capable swingmen.

Maybe TA would work reasonably well on a unit that included Carmelo and Calderon...

Calderon saying he will be healthy is a bit like Amar'e saying he would be ready, Bargs saying he would be ready, Eddy Curry would be ready.

Just say according to the doctors, I should be ready and I'm looking forward to starting the year off right.

Maybe he did say this.

I think alot will depend on if we play smaller or bigger. Is seems like Fisher wants to push the tempo this year. If thats the case a smaller starting line up makes some sense. Something like
G Jose/Galloway
F Afflalo/Melo
C RLopez
Bench: KP, Grant, Williams, Quinn

It will be interesting because there will be a lot of competition for rotation spots. I would say only Melo, Afflalo and Lopez are locks for starter minutes, and Afflalo has something to prove as well.

Looking forward to how it all shakes out

Funny, we got this guy as useless in our books!!!
In my mind anything we can get from him is a huge bonus and if playing well could aid a contending team in a trade.

Im rooting for this guy to light it up!!!

The offense has been adjusted slightly to take advantage of the roster we have now. The presence of good screeners like RoLo and KP and an excellent PnR PG like Jerian makes it a good fit for the Knicks to run those Drag Screens early in the possessions. Jose should also be able to make use of that tactic but he won't have the same exact game as JErian. Jose will use the screens to take the open 3 or mid range or hit the roll man. Jerian can get all the way to the basket to score of kick to a teammate.

There will still be some of those old Kerr/Paxson looks but there is more of an emphasis on early offense and a quicker pace. You can see that when healthy Jose can make use of that stuff and he did.

Notice the screens they're setting for Jose so he can take open jumpers, which is his strength of course. Also notice that when healthy Jose can still push the ball and set up teammates.

not really... before last year Jose was a b2b starter and played every game. He was a starter for Dallas on a 50 win team. People have forgotten this guys actually a pretty good player.

if it had been one injury - kinda like Melo's- then maybe I could think he could return to form. But these were the nagging injuries of an older, out of shape player. I need to see him show up and make it through training camp before I have any expectations for the year.

Older players, especially PGs have to work extra hard to be able to compete against the speed they will face in the NBA. Prigs knows this, and that's why he can compete at his age even though he is not a superior athlete.

First time he has to sit out in TC because of a "nagging" hamstring/quad/whatever injury, his butt should be on the bench for good.
