Knicks say they're looking for another scorer. If Shved spurns Europe and accepts $2.8m exception then that likely spells the end for Ledo and Thanasis. I would assume they use remaining spots for frontcourt depth. I'm guessing Amundson and another backup center. Ledo or Thanasis will have to kill in summer and camp. Knicks have to be careful. If they make arrangements to stash players in Europe and D-League and then drop them later, it could hurt future dealings with players and agents. You want to establish and sustain reputation as class franchise.

The Knicks currently only have 4 guards on the roster. I see both these guys making it to camp with respectable summer showings. I think both can swing between the 2 and 3 in a pinch. Thanisis was a good soldier stashed in the D League last year. Ledo has worked hard with the team in the offseason. They will both be given long looks.

I want both on the 15-man. I also want Shved on the 15-man. Shved should be the highest priority of the 3 in fact. So that's 3 players I had penciled in as automatics before learning about this Lance Thomas signing. Don't want to belabor it any longer but sorry, I have a problem with LT taking up a roster spot if it looks like one of these three may not make the team now. They're all higher priority/higher importance players than LT imo, not to mention flat out more talented and all good character guys as well..And let's not forget about a couple of intriguing SL options we have looming -- Galdikas and Mo N'dour. We need a backup C (Galdikas should be a lock) and I'd like to keep my options open with this dude Ndour who looks like a real nice two-way prospect and a possible better option over Thanasis, maybe even Cleanthony Early. We had excellent roster flexibility (not to mention cap flexibility to sign 2 players over the minimum) that we no longer have after the LT signing. Not trying to take a shot at LT personally but facts are facts..

Rosey -- I see that you've mentioned a couple of times that the Knicks have offered the room exception to Shved. Do you know that for a fact? Where did you hear that? Last I heard, they lowballed him with a vet minimum offer early on in FA which he declined. Reading now that the Knicks 'are keeping in touch with Shved and his agent,' whatever that means. Keeping in touch with him for what purpose--to up the offer to something fair or to see if he'll change his mind and take the vet minimum? Sorry but they're nuts if they don't bring Shved back. He solidifies that entire backcourt. Gimmie Shved (or something comparable or better) and I'm a happy camper!

I think Knicks will look to keep Thanasis partly for the reasons first mentioned. He also

plays D which seems to be the new focus and sf is a weakly manned assuming Melo plays primarily at 4. As far as Ledo, his height is a good attribute but he's going to have to show well in SL as there are plenty of unsigned young talents on SL squads auditioning for jobs and we owe him nothing but a small guarantee

If Amundson is signed then
Grant
Afflalo
Melo
Porzingis
Lopez

Caledron
Shved?
Early
D Will
O Quinn

Galloway
Ledo
Thomas
Amundson
Galkdas

Whereis Thanasis going to fit on this team?

IF Amundson is signed, if Ledo and Galkdas makes team, if Shved or Cole returns. Thanasis has to show like some others, by my count ten spots are taken. Five spots need to be filled

Cole's out--I think the Clippers grabbed him. 2-yr deal.

Why? They play different positions. I think if we sign Shved, then Thannasis becomes less likely

Thanasis is a SF. Signing Lou Amundson assures that Lance Thomas will be used as a SF;thus, making the SF too full. As much as I like Thanasis, if he joins, the SF position will be too overloaded. He could play as a SG, but I'm sure everyone would rather try to get Shved instead.

Thanasis needs real seasoning overseas and since the knicks have his rights they can let him either continue in the D-league or go get time against better comp while retaining the option of bringing him back later.

Ledo needs some real work too but they don't have the same options as they do with Thanasis. Ledo is under contract though and he needs a developmental coach to mold him and more time in the D-league. His offense reminds me of Lance Stephenson but without the bulk/strength. They both have that hurky jerky style to there game and can euro step their way to a lay up.

I don't think we retain Thanasis's rights past the next draft. Not an expert, read it somewhere

Two rookie starters are not going to crack the opening day lineup but maybe mid season. If Berman can be trusted I could see why the knicks might want to start Grant/Calderon and bring Afflalo off the bench. Afflalo is an efficient scorer but his defensive slippage maybe able to be covered up against a teams B lineup to start the 2nd. He'll still likely play the 1s to close out the 1st though.

I personally wouldn't be opposed to:

Calderon
Grant
Afflalo
Melo
Lopez

Does anyone know if Afflalo fairs better against 3s? I believe he does a great job guarding the 3 and struggles inside the arch so maybe not. The good thing though is that Lopez is great at defending inside the arch and struggles chasing on the perimeter. So maybe they can play off each other better now that they will be healthier and have an off-season together.

I'd rather we keep Ledo here. His decision making may be a little questionable, but his skills are going to be very useful(offensively) with what we are doing.

Ledo will get better as he calms down. Right now the extra adrenaline and wanting to prove he belongs may get the better of him but once he knows he's going to stick he'll relax and that will be good for us cuz I think he can be a good player for this team. He's got some passing skills to go along with his attacking style which fits this system very well.

Can we still retain Thanasis's rights if he goes to play overseas though?
