He will be a good pickup. He plays better defense than his brother Brooke.

He is a rim protector and very good basketball IQ. He is also affordable.

I would love a Lopez signing if we can get him for around $10 million per year. If we have to pay him more than that, we might as well get Monroe, who is a better offensive player. Koufus would also be someone I would look at if we could get him for $8 million per year or less.

Opponents made 48% of their shots at the rim last year when Lopez was the primary big man under the rim. That's very good. This is from the NBA player tracking data. They were at 55.1% when Greg Monroe was under the rim, which is pretty bad. I think average is around 52 or 53%. For a lot of reasons, I'm thinking for half the price Lopez is a better deal than Monroe.

Yeah maybe just steer clear of Monroe I guess.

If they can get Lopez for half of what Monroe is expected to get then they can sign them both. Also, A better deal doesn't make the monroe signing a bad deal. Plus that is just one stat. I would like to know see a compilation of Monore's numbers and then see the numbers without Smith and Drummond on the floor.

I keep seeing bits and pieces here and there and I lack the energy to go research it on my on right now so if anyone wants to do it I'd appreciate it.

Monre and Lopez are both relatively young so that's a good sign.

I do think another option is signing Ovidijus but he can be signed with or without the additions of Lopez/Koufos.

Lopez would be a very good signing, Only 27. Porzingas needs to play and we can't put minute roadblocks like Monroe in front of him. If we only pay around 10 for him teams will come calling at the deadline with draft picks in hand

Interesting. That's a good point about Monroe's #s with different players. He also put up better #s when he was the C, though I guess he'd be PF if Lopez comes.
Perhaps if we get Lopez for 10 mil per and stretch Calderon, we can still get Monroe too?

Well, there is no question Lopez is a better defender than Monroe. However, Monroe is going to help this offense a lot with his passing and ability to score. I read about the stat you cited but in the same espn article, they said that Detroit actually played better overall defense with Monroe at center, which is the position he would play here, with Zing the future PF. If it is a choice between giving Lopez $13 million or giving Monroe $15.5 million, I think you have to go with Monroe. However, if we can get Lopez for $10 million, I would probably take him and save the cap space for another supermax player next year.

I don't mind Lopez on a reasonable deal, but we will need to find a PF who can score

I think the full max for Monroe is going to be closer to 17 mil but I agree with what you're saying overall.

silly me but I think Lopez is a back up plan if Monroe doesn't sign then the focus will probably go to Harris and Lopez would be the defensive center.

How about Porzingis and Derrick Williams? Or that foreign player from Minnesota? Or if GS cuts David Lee? D league guys--UDFA's I think there are avenues.

If they got Lopez at a decent cost I would think they would look at the Minnesota kid- Nemanja Bjelica, and if Phil really thinks Derrick Williams can contribute, you should be able to pick him up cheaply, I would think.

I don't see us getting Robin Lopez if the knicks obtain Monroe. I feel Lopez is the knicks hedging bets if they strike out on Monroe and LMA. With that said Lopez isn't a bad get. He wouldn't be a second offensive option like LMA or Monroe. He would be however a great traditional big who can defend and score a little if an opportunity arises. Also your right a fair contract for Lopez would definitely get the knicks draft picks if it was traded.

We have to play Porzingas at least 20 minutes a night, the kid has to be allowed to develop even if it costs us some games

How may of you guys have watched full games of Porzingas? I download a few off Youtube to do some highlight lowlight videos of he and Hernagomez

Monroe's defensive numbers will be better at Center. My numbers would be better guarding today's centers. Of course Lopezs numbers are better he doesn't have to guard the best players in the game like Monroe did. Monroe had no choice playing next to another center in Drummknd

Would love to add Robin Lopez.

If we can't get Monroe, getting Robin Lopez and Derrick Williams wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.
