Growing up, I came to know more people who smoked weed on a regular basis than I needed to...These people had a tendency to speak in absolutes...They said things they thought were profound and ground breaking...I came to quickly realize that those profound and groundbreaking thoughts were only meant for that moment, that minute or that hour..It was never meant as a way of life for these hippies...What may be profound today wasn't necessarily profound tomorrow..This reminds me a lot of Phil Jackson..We were suppose to be trying to make the playoffs, well, until the plan changed and we decided to tank after racking up a multitude of losses..That is, until we decided we were trying to win as many games as we could at the end of the season once again....His initial plan was to bring in defensive players until he traded all of them...Calderon was suppose to a player we needed because he fits into our plans, in how we are going to play..He is a complete defensively liability..That was until a few months later when we are trying to trade him and there were no takers...Now we seem to be "set" at two positions according to Phil a few days ago, we will see, with Melo and a lead guard, who I'm assuming is Calderon again..We were supposed to be looking at defensive players or rim protector in the draft and free agency...With this pick and Monroe on deck, I don't see defense and rim protection being a priority anymore...Are we rebuilding through the draft or is it trough free agency??..This pick won't be ready for a few more years..What is the plan today or the next time Phil speaks to us??..I now get why Dolan and Phil hit it off when they spoke..Dudes growing up in the 60s and 70s, now having to do adult things and be taken seriously...One thing I do know, this isn't anyway to run an organization or a basketball team...Dolan is the poster child for that...

but you put your reputation behind Isiah for 5 years holfresh and defended him on the day he was fired.

So your down ON hippie GMs, but down WITH scumbag inept GMs that run franchises into the ground. Would you say thats a fair statement?

Zinger is 7'3" with 7'6" wingspan and he's a great athlete. He is a rim protector as a help defender not much different than WCS. Neither guy is a banger but they can move and help on D.

Galloway is a good defensive guard. Jerian is a good defensive guard. Thanasis is a good defensive wing. Overall his picks tend to have some defensive capability. Lance Thomas and Amundson were defensive reserves.

We all know that once Phil cleaned house that this team was on a different path. Phil said he wanted a future component and a present component so he did tell us this is what he was gonna do.

Isiah ran the franchise into the ground like we were world beaters before he arrived..Give me a break..Before Isiah we had Layden proposing serious trades like Kurt Thomas for Chis Bosh for which he was resoundingly laughed at...At least Isiah traded pieces no one thought was possible..He made a few nice draft picks...U wanted him to turn water into wine...U are right, he fell very short of that...

With a good nights sleep. Adding KP was a a decent move. He can probably contribute sooner than we think. In this new league where plodding centers and PFs are on the out KP gives the Knicks a lot of versatility. He can play sf, pf, and center in this new age of basketball. You can play small ball with a 7'2 player. With a few good moves in FA I can see the Knicks doing well next year.

THAT'S THE SPIRIT!!! People forget that this kid was already playing with grown men. He's not a banger but a finesse big and in the NBA if you can shoot and move you can have a role. This kid isn't big and slow. He should be able to get in there and have a role. Summer League should be fun.

Yep....Phil said he's not afraid to select a project that may not fill out until after Phil leaves. People look at that statement like he selected a project. Phil selects diversity. For example, Zinger is a long way from being a franchise player....Thats what he means by longevity. But when I say diversity, I mean everything Phil has done to this point, is based on someone having multiple skill sets and with Zinger, he's someone that will contribute now as a role player and later as a franchise player. Some teams pick a project that can't contribute right away. Zinger is a different type of project, because he has NBA range, and NBA moves on offense. He's not like Stein where you can leave him open. But he's like Stein where you can throw him lobs and you have to watch for his chase down blocks.

I just didn't think Phil had the balls to select him. But he has as much potential as Towns, Ok4 and Russell. The KG types of centers is the new move now. Ok4 types are not as valuable anymore. Especially when you have players like Melo, with the same low post offense. You don't have to be a low jumping heavy big but center to provide low post offense. Melo is an example of that. I believe Stein would've been the pick, if it wasn't for the injury report. But Zinger might be the better longterm pick over Stein. Phil didn't select Kobe out of highschool for what he can do his rookie year. He saw a player with a solid skill base to build on for the future, along with his physical tools. Same with Zinger. He looks like Dirk because he's tall and white.....But he moves like KG....very fluid. All good signs. On top of that, he has a basketball pedigree.....And a NY attitude with a chip on his shoulder, to prove his toughness. And I think thats whats going to put him over the top. All the boos and soft labels.....

not what he said at all. He said as a young player coming into the league he's going to struggle on defense. He didnt concede anything.

The REASON they took him is he's an "eye opening athlete"

Why arent you quoting THAT from Phil? Oh yea.. it doesnt fit your anti-Phil agenda.

Kris will have to learn the defensive concepts and that isn't to unexpected. He's athletic and long so he will be able to get help blocks. He can move his feet kind of like WCS but he's not as polished on D. No way he's not going to have an impact on D at 7'3" with a 7'6" wingspan. He'll be a help defender much like WCS. Neither guy is a banger.

I don't mind the pick persay. I like Porzingis, I think he will be good. The main thing is I don't see how this helps Carmelo. We're going to have to hit some home runs in the next few years in free agency. We also lost two future second round picks. Do we have any picks for next year's draft?
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Hippie pot smoking player hung out in the villiage and played for the 70's knicks. Was key bench player in 1973.
Hippie post smoking player won 11 rings and is the ALL TIME WINNINGEST COACH IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA!!!

Holfresh, other than having a bonafide public hissy fit what are your credentials to judge so harsh? You a winner and can detect traits as your in the "club"?

no.. Im simply calling you out on two standards. Isiah had no plan for 5 years, but you said he was great and he inheritted a terrible team. He built a 39 win playoff team his first year. Then 4 years of terrible ball. No plan, but he's your guy.

The "plan" is your anti-Phil rally call.

Hows this for a plan:
build a team that fits a system
bring in high character player who are hoops first
build assets
develop a cornerstone player

are those acceptable aspects of a plan?

You say Porzingis "is not athletic" but Phil called him "an eye opening athlete"
You say "Phil conceded he cant defend in the NBA" but Phil simply said thats what he will struggle with first

Your shifting words around and making stuff up to back up your views and opinions, which we all know is first anf foremost anti-Phil

Dude, Im just calling it like I see it. Your not being honest, you only looking at aspects of this player that fit into your view, which is you hate Phil
