Is the prospect of drafting Porzingis and Payne good enough to intrigue the Wolves into trading their no.1 pick?

Sure. Combine Porzingis's athleticsm, soft touch, and post game combined with Paynes passing skills and defensive instincts then you do get Towns.

I have been thinking of exactly that since we landed the 4th pick. IMO, that is the exact direction we should try to move. But he would never agree to go to Minny, so it would require trading for the overall #2 from LA. But it would get so complicated, I would also be fine with picking BPA @4. Melo is a stud, and we're lucky to have him in the fold.

Melo (and Calderon) to the Heat for pick 10 and enough one-year contracts to make it work. Payne would be selected with the 10th pick and obviously Kristaps with the 4th. I've brought this idea up in the past and was wondering what the perception would be if those picks had names actually attached to them.

From a talent perspective, I don't see how those two players don't have as much, if not more value than Towns. I feel that the Wolves would be foolish to turn down that kind of value, especially if we assumed Rubio's contract in exchange for Mario Chalmers and a $8 million trade exception. And from our perspective, it makes too much sense not to happen. We get a potential franchise caliber player that is the best prospect in the draft and enough cap room/players to still build a potentially competitive team LONG TERM. If we could also acquire Joe Johnson (and the Nets' 29th), David Lee (and the Warriors 30th), and/or Gerald Wallace (and the 28th), I think we could easily grab the 8th seed in the playoffs.

Saunders likes Porzingis- he compared him to KG, but it would be tough for him to draft him #1 with Towns/Russell/OK4(who he likes),

Maybe if he could get another young player, he might do it, but we can't make the deal anyway.

Wouldn't Cameron Payne count as "another young player"? And why couldn't we make the deal on draft night?

the twolves have collected lotto picks for years now... they now have the opportunity to draft a franchise player in towns and if i were them, i wouldn't screw it up.

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I doubt that Anthony, at this point in his career, has any value for team with a lottery pick we might desire, since many are in rebuilding mode, too.

Coming off an injury, has a large contract despite the impending cap increases... not sure what value he has at this point.

im not trying to say melo is the most valuable commodity in the league or anything but you don't think he'd have value to a team like the cavs, spurs, rockets or clippers? i know he's coming off injury, but i dont think anyone doubts melo's ability to score. his ability to be a conerstone franchise player is certainly worth arguing over but any contending team would like to have a guy like melo.

Sure, he e would have value to certain teams, but look at the teams you just mentioned- end of the first round slots. The thread is about trying to engineer a trade- doubt Payne would be available that late.

Any of those teams going to have the cap room for him?

Also have to give him an extra $10M to trade him...no?

Not going to get rid of Anthony at this time. Jackson would also looks like a fool for resigning him and then almost immediately trying to dump him.

He is ours, for better or for worse.

If we get Porzingis and Payne I would keep them. As much as i like Towns, Zingis and Payne have just as much upside plus we fill two holes.
