Okafor. You have to.

I think this is somewhat within the realm of possibility.

Since I'm making the pick Okafor hands down still my first choice. But happy with any of the top 7.

Is this even remotely in doubt? OK4 without a second thought. In fact, I might actually take him at spot 2 if we had that pick and Towns was gone to Minny.

I think it depends on what your team construction priorities are. I like Okafor, but I actually want a true defensive anchor that will allows us to defend the way teams are playing now. Defending PnR and 3pt shooting is huge and I think WCS actually gives a team the best shot at defending against those kinds of offenses. IMO I can get low post scoring. Maybe not as great as Okafor, but it would be enough. What WCS does for a team is unique. I feel now that this is the right way to go. It's probably not the most popular idea but to build your team around a great defensive talent is just as valid as the great offensive talent IMO. Scorers are much more plentiful than great defenders who can transform how a team defends.

Hard choice. I would have to pick Okafor, but turn around and flip him for Stein and another asset
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

It is sounding more and more like the Sixers may favor Mudiay. In which case we would get Okafor or Russell. You absolutely 100% have to take Okafor or Russell if they are there.

If Phil takes WCS over Russell, I'll puke.. And I love WCS.

Teams would over value Okafor over Winslow. Thus, you have to go Okafor and flip him for say Winslow or Stein and another first round pick

What everyone always says is that Defense wins Championships, but when it comes time to actually put that to the test, no one wants to actually go for the great defensive talent. Everyone gets excited by the prospect of a player that can score and they hope that player will be the next big thing. neither Russell nor Okafor would improve the Knicks defense one bit. Sure we'd score a bit more but not being able to stop the better teams would continue to haunt our post seasons for years.

We can always get scoring in Free Agency. The best defensive bigs won't be coming to NY in Free Agency and if they did it would be at a substantial cost. WCS solves that problem for years. Not only can we get scoring in FA but we can get additional 2 way players to make the WCS selection stand up even more. We could actually build one of the better defensive teams in the league. I know it would be the most unpopular move for Phil to make. It's just my personal feeling about it.

The difference is that Okafor and Russell are potentially transcendent offensive players who the Knicks can build their team around for years to come. They are the types of players you drop everything for and rethink your roster so you can build around them. Don't worry, there's about a one percent chance one of these two guys is there when we pick.

yea i mean if okafor falls you have to entertain trades but orlando who could just take winslow also makes that difficult...

btw my board looks like towns, russell/winslow(pretty close between the two but russell by a hair), okafor .. mudiay is comfortably behind this group... and stein is comfortably behind everyone...

The problem is who would you make a deal with and what could they offer? We'd have to mock the rest of the draft with Okafor falling to 4 and see who we could make a deal with. It's not immediately clear.

You are preaching to the choir. I love Stein; I just want to pick Okafor and flip him for Stein and another asset. Defense is paramount for me

Yeah that makes it tough. I just keep going back to what Phil has been saying about bigs and defense. I think it's so important that this team be restructured around a defensive base that i'm no longer overly impressed with the scoring prowess of Okafor and Russell. Neither guy can really defend at a high level. That leaves us in only a slightly better situation. We'd still have to try and outscore everyone which we've tried already. I'd like to switch up and and build a balanced team. Great D and O for a change.

Russell looks like he'll be a terror in the NBA. With all that space he'll be able to exploit defenses.
