John Paxton is on crack. If he expects us to have 2 bad contracts in Eddie Robinson and Jerome Williams, I demand he take Shandon Anderson. It's only fair.

Where did you hear this?

I would not mind getting Crawford and Eddie Robinson and JYD- but we would need to ship back something else besides Tim Thomas and Kurt Thomas-

perhaps Tim Thomas, Shandon Anderson or Moochie and Kurt or some combination of stuff- but if this were a legit starting point and not just some silly internet rumour, it could lead somewhere positive.

I'd counter with Kurt, Shandon and FW for Crawford, JYD and ERob.

IMHO, while TT has upside and all of the tools to be great, all he is now is talk. He's more dead weight than KVH was, imho... and like KVH, he's a man who doesn't have a true position.

I wouldn't mind so much if we made this sign/trade deal for Crawford. While as presently consitituted, this clearly isn't the ideal playing situation for Crawford. He can't step in as a clear starter nor be penciled in for a guaranteed 30 minutes. After all, your 3 best players will all be guards.

For the Knicks, he'd be a great SG of the future when and if Houston's time has run out (though as I've said before, I think Q-Rich is better).

I like JYD--- he'd be just another part of the Georgetown connection--- and he's another "baby" Rodman, a guy willing to sacrifice his body, play defense and do the dirty work. Eddie Robinson showed so much promise a few years ago, but hasn't been able to get it going in Chicago. He signed a long term contract back then, but it probably only has a year or three left by now, right?

Clearing out KT/TT will allow us to play Penny and a defensive oriented SF... and gives Sweetney some guaranteed burn. It'd also open the door for a return for McDyess--- toward the end of the season, he showed flashes of his former self, and he's probably in even better shape now.

NOT ONLY THAT... but doing a sign-and-trade for Crawford will allow us to keep our MLE, perhaps to split on Doleac and McDyess.

Another thought, Frank Williams could potentially be included in whatever deal, as an Illinois native... leaving open another roster spot.

You could see a starting lineup of:

Mohammed
McDyess
Penny
Crawford
Marbury

Houston could play limited minutes (25-30mpg) in a starting or bench role... or maybe fit in as a spot up shooter at the 3 in a 3 guard lineup.

ERob could play and start SF as well. He's a pretty long 6'8, can defend and has always been able to score. For his career he gets something like 7 ppg with less than 20 mpg of burn. He's also like a 50% shooter with a good mid range jumper and is excellent in transtion. I'm really not sure why he never got it going with the Bulls...I guess its all about attitude, and I think he also had some injuries. He's already 28. I still think there's some untapped potential, but he's already made millions and still has 14 mil coming to him for the next 2 years. He expires the same year as Tim and Penny.

I don't know if I want McDyess back, but splitting the MLE on him and Doleac is not necessarily a bad idea if KT is moved. He can split time with Sweets while he learns. Playing him 20-24 minutes per would probably preserve his body.

Is there a link for this trade offer. Where did you get this information from because I have not seen Tim Thomas included.

If one thing is certain, McDyess will NOT be back.

a) He's old and injured, two things Isiah has said he will stay away from.
b) McDyess is pissed at Isiah for not telling him about the trade.
c) Isiah has been on a mission to build his own Knicks, different from Scott Layden. Why would he bring back the one guy who is linked to the Layden Era?
d) Why would you want Antonio McDyess?

If I'm splitting the MLE, I'm getting active, younger players who could improve. Chris Mihm, Marcus Fizer, etc. I'm not getting a guy who's knee exploded two years ago and is literally one jump away from his NBA career being over. That's suicide and stupid.

The Knicks would never give up TT and KT just to get Crawford. The Bulls have to give the Knicks something back. Regardless, this was not mentioned anywhere and is probably a ploy by Briggs so he can oppose the Crawford trade. I haven't seen this anywhere and I've read Insider, the NY papers, the Chicago papers, and basketball sites online. His source is probably "Bob on the carphone" or something absurd like that.

I agree...this would never be the deal, and if anything is probably some opening offer. You always aim high. So we counter and sub Shandon...they'll reject that and sooner or later we'll get closer to the middle. Its no big deal and I wouldnt put much stock into this.

As for McDyess, I agree, I'm not exactly pining for his return, and there are plenty of reasons to not want him back. But if we get to the point where we have split our MLE and we need a backup PF, he's probably one of the better high upside/cheap contract options. The early reports said that he's willing to come back and Isiah is willing to take him back...take that for what its worth I guess.

You have to be kidding me! Why in the world would we have to trade our best and longest SF (tIMMY Thomas) for Crawf, Eddie, and JYD? as far as I am concerned, Kurt, Williams, and Anderson are good enough to complete that deal. In fact, we can even send them Penny to complement the contract.

No way Isiah would be stupid enough to trade TT unless we got Curry and Craw. Briggs where did you get this from?

There wasn't even a link provided for the trade offer. Why should we waste our time discussing it then?

It was mentioned on insidehoops or hoophype, don't remember which one, rumor page. They get there stuff from all kind of newspapers. So this has been printed in some sort of paper. Other then that there is nothing much to say about this particular trade scenario. For all of BRIGGS negativiy and sometimes stupidity, he does not just make up stuff our of thin air like playa used to, so chill out peoples.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

I don't even think that trade is so bad. We get 45 million in expiring delals in a couple of years, which would give us about 10 mil to sine a major FA then.

I alos not a fan of TT. Considering the value of Craw, who should eventually become our starting SG, its not such a big deal to give up an often injured, soft, and no real positoin player. E-Rob could start for him btw, he can jump our of the gym, is a great defender, has a very good midrange jumper, and shoots 50% overall, and yes, he is a better rebounder then TT, even thou that prolly does not say much.

JYD is a favorite of mine, he is a great energy guy of the bench, is an outstanding rebounder, excellent defender, he can even defend big smalls like Camby used to do for us.

So essentially, we clear up room for Sweetney to start by moving KT, get our man at SG to replace Houston as his body is falling apart, get a great backup big in our rotation, and get solid starter at the 3 who brings much needed defense to the table.

I think giving up an over the hill PF with a long deal, and a soft, perennial underachiever without a real position for all that is not a bad idea at all. We have to realize that in order to get what you want you have to give up some good thigns too, the Bulls are not just gonna gift wrap Crawfard for us.

Get Etan Thomas with the MLE and Foyle with the LLE and here is the team we would have:

C Thomas/Foyle/Mohammed
PF Sweetney/Mohammed/JYD
SF E-Rob/Penny/JYD
SG Houston/Craw/Penny/FW
PG Marbury/Craw/FW/Penny

This team is much much better defensively, is much more athletic, especially if you replace Houston with Craw in the starting lineup, which will prolly happen anyways as I don't beleave Houston will come back from his injury. The absence of Penny or Anderson at the SG means that whoever starts there can shoot (Craw or Houston) so we should have enoguh jumpshooting on this team to get by. It is also obvoius that this team is much much deeper.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

I don't think the trade is that bad either. JYD is a good, athletic player. I'd rather keep TT, but you have to give up talent to get talent.

"bulls want KurtThomas AND Tim Thomas for Crawford E-Rob and JYD"

I'd do that. KT is an unathletic, overpaid, below average PF prone to mood swings and TT is far from an untouchable. I'm not a big fan of Crawford, E-Rob, or JYD but IMO it is an upgrade.

no way. im not a huge fan of either player myslef but i realize the SKILL level of TT and KT combined is way to much to give up for those players. to much junk i.e

andersen
norris
e-rob
jyd
penny hardaway

then the main player you brought in plays the same position as both Marbury and Houston who both make 20mm. this trade could easily push us below playoff level believe it or not. i dont think they want that to happen. i believe this story has validity, because there seems to be big time interest in Crawford. in this case it is dangerous to try to one-up the competing suitors.

unless we take on a strangehold deal like this, I dont think it is plausible to get this player. but what this does show you is the value of the asset to the Bulls. some team--maybe even the knicks will pull the trigger and when there is demand--the price goes UP like every business in the world.

id rather stay away from this party and concentrate my efforts on building a tem for 05-06 while staying competitive this year.

the molasses-quicksand etc..analogies are very good on these types of transactions. while you may benefit from 1 player--you have filled the roster with more long term slog that has much less value than either TT or KT.
we need to find cheap beneficial assets like we have done in the past i.e starks mason bonner etc. lets see what these SL guys can do and perhaps we can get a Marcus Fizer for the LLE. Unless we get a player staright up for money or something that makes sense, it's not worth it.
