Obviously we dont know where we will draft or who we will sign but what type of realistic moves will make most fans satisfied in this very important summer

1. do not drop to slot 5
2. don't draft a surprise
3. get at least 2 starters in FA
4. find some undrafted talented during summer league (similar to Galloway)
5. do not resign Bargnani
6. Melo does not suffer a set back for his recovery

good points. The only one we have no control over is draft position

1) Drafting a blue chip talent with the plan to keep and develop him.

2) Sign a free agent who has a potential to be an all-star or near all-star level help to Melo.

3) Get Melo healthy.

4) Sign some FAs who play defense and make sense as a team with the three core pieces of Melo, draft pick and FA guy.

There are a bunch of different ways to do it right.

Worst case would be trading the lotto pick for a high cost FA who eats the cap space like Kevin Love. Worst type of move that would be the wrong kind of two for one.

Knicks are in a position to have three very good players and room to add complementry pieces around them (with a few already here in Galloway, Amundson, Lance, Shved)

I'd also try to trade Timmy Hardaway this summer.

A nice player in the draft, and a couple of nice, 2nd tier players. I don't think I'm being unreasonable.

There's no way any team should ever trade a future 1st for two 2nd. That's awful, awful value.

I like what BRIGGS did there but also don't know if it would be necessary to trade the 2018. I have to see what else Phil can do to add talent without sacrificing any future assets.

I would say that with pick 1-5 i'd like to see one of my top 5 players taken, Towns, Okafor, Russell, Winslow, Hezonja/Mudiay. Until we know which pick we're getting it's hard to say what will make the most sense in Free Agency. Each pick would change what i'd do in Free Agency so it's a very huge part of the equation.

Yep- trade Tim Jr or whatever if you want a second- it's just daft to trade a first for two seconds.

If I got Vaughn and Mickey for that pick Id be overjoyed and would gladly pay up in 2018 with a 20 pick+. I like Vaughn as a lottery pick today --so the value is relative IF hes there and the prognostications say both players would be around the slots wed have.I think bOTH players will have value higher than 16 in 2018 I think those who know CBB real well--theyd understand this deal. In football Bill Beliichek is a master of trading down for higher asset value.

Just out of interest if we miss out on Towns and OK4, how do we fill two front court spots via free agency? Maybe move Melo to PF, but in that case you'd need A defensive C, which would rule out Monroe (or Kanter). Or do you keep Melo at SF, and just focus on getting one front court player (Milsap or Monroe, or whatever) and then get another one next year? It's got me stumped.

The concept--Im team building but I want to compete now

I rebuilt the frontcourt for ten years with a diversified unit

I kept the right cohesion with my guards--I moved on from Ledo early and Larkin and kept Shveyd Hardaway and added a vet (Carrol) and a young SG who I think will be an NBA star Vaughn

I have more depth more size and tough interior scoring combo shot blockers on both units a 6th man of the year type in Shveyd and Hardaway.

I know Towns and Johnson are buddies so I kept them together I like the work ethic of both.

The draft catered to all 2 way players all with high upsides.

If we miss out on Towns

Let me go a bt further ins cenarios

1 I take Towns
2 I take Okafor
3 Trade down #1 look at Atlanta with Shreoddor pick 19 and Tavaraes
4 Asset trade down for Stein

I like Vaughn and Mickey a lot--I think their value is a complete misinterpretation of where it should stand--so Id like to take advatage of that. I like Vaughn as much as any guard at the top. So why use a darft pick on 1? Use it for goal #1 rebuild froncourt.

Any combo of
Alexis Ajinca or Robin Lopez

and

Greg Monroe or Enes Kanter

1 new starter from the draft (with star potential), 2 new starters from free agency. 1 of those free agents must be a capable 2nd option right away. This is the minimum. Anything beyond this would be a bonus.
