I know they went through that win streak when they dumped J Smith but this is the best they have looked. I understand fit--fit counts because now Drummond has space to work

Without Monroe DET is 5-1 and Drummond is avg 21-14-1.5-2.5 57% up from 13-13 50% They are avg 107 points in this 6 game streak without Monroe which is 10 points higher than when they DID have Monroe.

In his 5 years with the Pistons Greg Monroe lead teams have won an avg of 28 games per.

that is why I said Stan Van Gundy will offer Draymond Green and/or Ajinicia to pair with him, maybe even both

Nope. First of Drey Green will be on Golden State--you know that. Secondly SVG likes playing 4-1 with a smaller mobile 3 point shooting PF. I think they stay and enhance that system. Greg Monroe is all but done in Detroit. The only thing Detroit will do with Monroe is S+T. I'm sure the Knicks know this already and hes going to cost a maximum contract. I'm not big on Monroe and he has a strange knee injury that they wont comment on.

Orlando was best with Rashard Lewis at PF a stretch 4. Monroe really doesn't qualify at a stretch 4.

Nice better for us. And like you said both Drummond and MONROE will benefit from being broken up. Both occupy the same space.

Towns-Monroe is a dream frontcourt in every way

I don't think so but its just one mans opinion. If Drummond and Monroe doesnt work why does Towns Monroe? Monroe cant hit that 16-18 footer and he's selective when he shows up. Monroe has never helped anchor even a 30 win season. But his arse is supposedly big enough.

So Towns can hit a reliable 16 foot jumpshot? Maybe in in 2-3 years as he does have a nice foul shot but as of today--he does not possess a reliable 16-18 footer or anything remotely close. Frank Kaminsky is a player who has a reliable 16-18 footer. Kanter can hit that shot Monroe cannot. I think Kanter is a higher end player.

How many wins has Kanter anchored? It's hard not to notice how well the jazz are playing without him.

Yes they are but the team he went to is now 12-6 with him.

Briggs my man you were too caught up in OK4 next Duncan/Malone you haven't dug deep enough to see that Towns is more than just a guy who scores from with 10ft. Look at the highlights of Towns before he got to Kentucky.

Towns is simply not asked to hang around the perimeter in this offense. If Stein had a low post game than he would. There offense consists of perimeter shots and Stein staying out of the way and rebounding/putbacks.

In the NBA the 3pt line is deeper leaving more room to operate and less clutter. So teams with a big that can stretch the floor and a post man have a HUGE advantage. That would be Towns/Monroe.

No wonder you've been so vehemently against signing Monroe. You don't have an understanding of his full potential. No wonder you've been so enamored with OK4's post game and footwork. Towns post game isn't as polished but he can beat you in a variety of ways which I've been harping on all year.

I don't get why you want Kanter he's worse than Monroe defensively who is more than adequate. He is a black hole whereas Monroe is an excellent passer as is Towns and which make them perfect fits for the Triangle. Add in a Jimmy Butler or Lance Stephenson and Phil has the players he's been adament about bringing in to change the culture and win a lot of games. Young guys on the rise all 25 & under with Melo leading the way. That's how you build a sustainable winner. It's like when the Knicks added Oakley, Starks & Mason to go along with Ewing and later on a young H20, LJ & Childs.

Question...Can Kanter even stretch the floor for Towns?

Just because he has not shown it at UK it doesn't mean that he doesn't have that in his arsenal. Also, using Kanter as an example of a player that can shoot a 16FT jumper is a bad idea. If 32% is reliable Towns would be a king.

Guns first off Towns is going to need developmental time in the professional ranks. He's had 9 thats nine games in college where he has scored 6 points or less. While Charlie Rosen was wrong about the potential long term success of Towns(nor should he compare a 19 to 25 YO) he brings up an issue--Towns is not going to walk into the NBA and set up shop 5 feet from the basket against undersized opponents. 14 that's FOURTEEN of his games hes had 4 or more fouls. Hes got attributes that translate better than Ok4 but he has played NO where near as good as Ok4 for a full season. The games which he helped win--which were not many--were done with a 5 foot soft hook shot--but he certainly to me is their go to guy--they just havent really needed 1 too many times. Karl Towns is just as likely to have 2 fouls on him in the first two minutes than having 4 points. Kanter Monroe maybe we even look at brook Lopez(who is better than both of those guys) are so far ahead of Towns right now that you cant say this guy will be helping out Towns. Towns to me will ultimate.y need more time than ok4 who should be able to walk in at the 4 man and play right away. Towns is a 5-4 somewhere between positions. Id say hes a 4 and he's going to need time. He will be NO teams savior in year 1. Greg Monroe siw ho he is--sometimes he doesnt show up--its hard to win with guys who dont show up consistently and thats what the Pistons record is.

Towns should develop a nice jumpshot--no debating it--if anyone thinks hes hitting a high % of jumpshots in the NBA next year--Id be very surprised. He needs to learn to play under control--thats #1. We need to see Karl Towns as "the man" without the tanks next to him. I think he should be a really good longer term player--and if he grows another 2 inches--even better. But he has rawness about him and he will need time to develop. He did not score 20 points one time during the regular college season. His own coach called him out a few times for not playing well.

If you don't have a stretch 4 in today's NBA your not going to score a lot of points, and you will be force to shoot a million mid range shots like we do now. Monroe and OK4 is a 80'2/90's line up, where teams shot 43% overall. Today NBA teams shoot high than that from the 3 ball line.

Guns and Towns and logic dont mix... Towns is going to be a two way player on winning teams and be great. Case closed. There is no further debate or discussion

On Monroe.. Detroit has been pretty bad. Its hard to evaluate guys when the team is bad year after year. His WS/48 are OK. His defense isnt terible, but there is nothing impressive. He gets some steals in the post. He does a good job statying in front of other bigs and keeping guys off the boards. He's an excellent passer. He's very durable. He plays every game and give yous 15/10 on 50% ish and that means something as well. I think 4 years $60mm is a great offer and probably makes him a Knick.

The problem with Monroe is people will balk at offering a close to max contract for a guy who simply isnt a star. He will be your 2nd or 3rd scoring option. What your paying for consistent production and good play. When that play is 6'10 and can slide from 4/5 and has a nice skill set its going to cost you about $15mm on the open market.

Im more inclined to target Monroe if we draft a guard. If we are picking 3-4 and OK4/Towns are off the board and we take a guard or wing than I think Monroe moves up. If we draft OK4/Towns my first priority would be true center types.
Assuming DJordan isnt an option, but Gasol and RLopez will at least hear offers. It will be interesting to see how Phil approaches FA. Does he swing for the fences and risk whiffing on the top tier and losing leverage with the next level guys? Should be interesting.

The Pistons major in playing better without star players. Didn't they go on some sort of win streak after dumping Josh Smith, too?

At least that doesn't seem to work for us. [Melohater bait...here Bonnie here gunnsie here Tripley...]

Monroe is one of the worst defenders in the league. Pairing him with Melo at the forward spots is a recipe for disaster.
