I "guarantee' a trade like that which would take us out of a 19 year old post pivot foundational player "restricted for 4 years" and would also finish free agency in one trade.

We would be a shell with two 4-3 who both like to take 25 shots flanked by nothing. Durant makes 22mm and then hes a FA. With all of the pieces that OKC has in place with Westbrook Ibaka and all of those players and OKC got to the finals one time and lost.

This team cant be fixed by one player. And that would shoot free agency and the draft all in one player. Just signing our existing guys to contracts with Durant who now has foot issues is not a team that will win much more than 43 games then Durant can up and leave.

I don't remotely understand the thought process behind Melo and Durant playing together.

This is what I've been saying though - I've been worried that the Knicks would do the same thing for Kevin Love.

Ugh.

Hahn thinks like the typical Tri State area moron.

I will look into adding KD in a few years if Melo is gone.

Certainly will look into acquiring Anthony Davis if he wants to leave NO for the bright lights

I would not be surprised if the big plan was to trade the pick for Love, Durant, Blake Griffin, etc, someone like that and then sign Rajon Rondo (Melo has wanted to play with him for years) - I've been saying this for a while now. It's my huge fear.

As much sway as Phil has, don't forget Melo and Dolan have sway, too, and they are going to be very impatient and dumb, if history is to be believed.

Anthony with a bad knee, or Durant with a bad foot?
Obviously, they wouldn't be a good fit together. I'd be glad to take on Durant if we could move the 'melo.

That would be real nice.

Don't underestimate how much power Melo has with Dolan. He's going to want star players to compete right away. We've seen what happens the times we've let Melo have a say in team building - we traded half the team to get him here so he could get his extension and keep his Bird Rights, we let Lin walk, we brought in Bargnani - every Melo/CAA-induced roster move has been a nightmare.

Dolan is not moving Melo. Dolan gave away half the team for Melo. He loves Melo.

The whole all-star BS - Melo playing injured half the year to make sure he could start in the all-star game at MSG... that's all Dolan and Melo and tells you everything you need to know about who calls the shots at MSG. If there's a trade on the table to acquire Blake or Love or Durant for the pick - Dolan and Melo are getting final say, not Phil. That's why Steve Mills, Dolan's stooge, is still installed as GM or whatever his title is - he's Dolan's mouth and ears. This may sound paranoid, but you look at Jeff Van Gundy and Donnie Walsh and Larry Brown and Mike D'Antoni, some of the most respected guys in the league and you know Dolan messed with them and made moves without them on the regular.

If there is one constant in how bad this team has been for 16 years, it is Jim Dolan getting involved on the basketball side and there is no reason to believe it will ever stop.

This type of thought only has led to multi year misery.

Ill just go back and say one trade Mcdyess. This would be Mcdyess part 2 but worse.

I look at things this way--we have one asset in the draft and we have 30mm+ in free agency. The combination of assets to help build a team trumps one player not named Lebron. It makes your roster unbalanced.

If I can look into the past at BIg 3's they all play pivot forward guard--every time. You'd be putting nearly what 60mm in just one position if Durant resigned for a new max. And worse if he decided to leave after 1 year like Dwight Howard did--how did that work out for the Lakers?

I would take Duarnt only under this condition.

Carmelo is traded
We have the cap space to give Durant and he is 110% healthy in 2016
We have already started the process of diversifying the talent on our team. There is no other way. When we traded for Carmelo--the asset allocation from the trade killed us for 4 years. Unless the players are in place and its reasonable you CANNOT combine free agency and a high draft pick.

There is a better than 50% chance historically that the draft pick is a franchise player and who could be within 2-3 years better all around than Durant by himself. Then we say what couldve happened in free agency could we pair Towns Kanter and use the rest of small smart upside moves? Ill say this all night--Towns and Kanter COMBINED are FAR FAR FAR better than 1 Durant. Not even close.

Trade him to Dallas then.
Find a way to convince him to accept that trade.

The C's could do this--look what they already have in place. Thomas Smart Bradley Tyler Olynck Young Turner--they have no 4-3 and 14 # 1 picks over the next 4 years. They have the ability to continue to grab assets y after y for a long time they do not have an existing player making more than 10mm(and that wallace) and the position Durant actually plays is open.

I've been saying it for a while now - the off-season will be Love and Rondo.

Melo, Dolan and Phil are all going to be anxious and desperate this summer. Not a good look. Not a way to build a team. But it's the KNICKS WAY, dammit.

Look at the last 15 years. There is no difference. People claimed the Walsh years would be different and then we traded half the team for Melo.

How does Rondo fit in the triangle??

Only thing with Rondo is his health in recent years has sucked. However if he's good with Fisher and Phil and signed here I would be estatic. He's got good value even when he's grumpy Rondo. When he's happy rondo your getting one of the best guards in the game. Defensively he's still one of the best and he's one of the best rebounding and assist guards out there.

There is a downside wit him, but the upside to me makes it a gimme.

Trading the pick for Durant... yikes. I actually think they could do better if they went down that avenue to be honest

The Knicks won't do that trade for Durant. There is a reason the Knicks are creating cap space it's to add without losing assets. Knicks will make the draft choice and stick with it. They will add through free agency and build a good team.
