http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/12369897/brooklyn-nets-sign-thomas-robinson-10-day-contract

The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to terms with former lottery pick Thomas Robinson on a 10-day contract, sources told ESPN.com on Monday.

The 23-year-old power forward confirmed the news on Twitter.

The deal cannot yet become official because Robinson has to clear waivers first. He was waived by the Denver Nuggets after they acquired him in the Arron Afflalo trade.

The 6-foot-10 Robinson was one of three players -- Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist being the others -- that the Nets coveted in the 2012 NBA draft.

In fact, the Nets put a top-three protection on their 2012 first-rounder, which they sent to Portland in exchange for Gerald Wallace.

But the pingpong balls didn't fall their way. The Blazers got the pick -- which fell at No. 6 -- and took Damian Lillard.

Robinson went at No. 5 to Sacramento, and he has failed to live up to his draft status since. But he is still young, so this is a low-risk move for Brooklyn to make.

Robinson is averaging 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in 172 career game

No biggie. We can still keep an eye on him while he proves himself on someone else's dime.

So does this mean we can still pick him up during the waiver period and just pay him what is owed this season? He is an ending contract so it would not damage our cap for next year.

With the frontcourt help we need, it's disappointing not to see JaMychal Green wearing the orange and blue and now apparently Thomas Robinson won't be either. I would've been beyond aggressive pursuing both guys. And if I were lucky enough to get them, they would've played here -- at least 30 mins/night apiece. That's just me..

Great pickup by the Nets. Not sure why the Knicks weren't one of the teams at least mentioned to be interested.

Sounds like we didn't want him but suppose we did -- could we have put in a claim before Philly? How does the 'clearing waivers' process work again? Just curious..

The knicks could have but they would have had to pick up his whole salary and he would have a decent size cap hold for next year.

Then again I am not sure how it works when a team is already over the cap when it comes to waivers. So they might not have been able to claim him.

When the shock wears off, I think he might prefer Philly. I'd rather go to Philly over Brooklyn. Better future imo, not to mention the roster's mainly comprised of young players much like Robinson. He might have a better chance getting mins there over Brooklyn. And F Prokhorov and the Nets btw. Put that on your billboard across from the Garden, buddy.

Ok, thanks for responding. Curious about something else -- The Nets were said to be offering a 10-day contract to T-Rob which he was set to accept. How does a cap hold for next year play into this? And is it nothing more that a minimum player cap hold, something teams with open roster spots would have in place anyway, no? I'm bad with stuff like this..

I wonder if they did it to bring their salary cap # up high enough.

That's the only reason they did it

In Brooklyn he could make the playoffs this year and possibly start cuz they actually need a power forward there especially since they dumped KG.

I got him as a rookie in a dynasty league and followed him for a few years. He looks the part of a big forward, kind of like the body of a young Dale or Antonio Davis, but doesn't seem to have the strength, quickness, or bball iq to get it done. But he had trouble finding his way starting with his first summer league and has seemingly regressed. I remember his in this year's summer league and Clyde talked about how he hasn't made adjustments and is still trying to find himself.

He's sort of like the "3rd" twin of the Morris brother (though to be fair Markieff seems to have figured things out)
