Guy has definitely been a bust no matter how you look at it. We could still end up waiving him or treading him....but....

everyone talks about this league getting away from the heavy post game and more stretch 4/5 type players. OK cool.

What if Bargnani plays the majority of the remaining games this year and plays his typical 14 pts, 5 rebs, 1 block per game production. Do we keep him? He'd get possibly a third of his current salary, maybe 5 mil a season with a possible player/team option.

He could play with okafor at the 5. He could play with a versatile towns. He could pay with a talent like D'Angelo Russell....

Fisher keeps talking up Bargnani as a guy they ate excited to plug into what they are trying to do. I agree to an extent that he would be highly effective if he can just get healthy and play 30 mins a night.

what you think?

I don't see any harm in signing him for the minimum and not factoring him into the rotation. Anything we get from him will be viewed as a bonus.

He could go play in Italy for way more than the nba minimum.... and why would he sign if he isn't going to be factored into the rotation....sigh

This is what people were saying about Amare a few weeks ago. Until he actually played significant time

Agreed, but do you think any team offers him more?

Bargs has been 100% frustrating and disappointing. No matter what happens Bargs is not going to be relied upon as a core part of the roster, but he could be a solid reserve. It's all about him getting in shape and staying healthy for once. I don't know what kind of training and diet Bargs does in the offseason and who he's working with but he needs to make a change. However as a reserve he wouldn't be putting the teams fortunes in jeopardy. He's clearly more talented than some of the bench guys teams have. On a reasonable contract I would consider bringing him back if he plays well the rest of the year. His presence wouldn't change the effort to bring in more frontline and dependable players this summer.

We gotta see him play again. I thought he drew crazy attention to himself the when he came back the first time. A big guy with his skills will do that especially if the ball is moving.

He should be on our short list. It all depends on who we draft. If we draft okafor, i could see hin playing next to bargs. Towns is very versatile so i can see him fitting in well too. If we can't get one of those guys and we get Russel I would rather pay Bargs 5 mil to play center than overpay anyone else

It seems reasonable to say something like this, no? What harm to keep Bargs/Amare for min type deal?

Except - be honest - Bargs has been unable to be healthy. Better to have a NBDL player that we can try to develop vs. to waste the spot/focus on Bargs/Amare.

Its not money - its focus/slot that matters more.

Personally I'd rather bring Eddy Curry back into the fold.

Bargnani is my least favorite Knicks player ever. Which is saying something.

I definitely would sign on for treading him.

There is nothing he's been shown capable of that would net us a "bonus".

That's true. I'm still intrigued by what he can do. Guys go through rough patches in life. I feel Bargs has a fire in his belly judging by how he address the media. I believe he wants to play. You guys know I enjoy bashing players too but they have to earn it. I don't believe Bargs had really earned the bashing he gets from fans since he's been in ny. People are still going off his past and expectations. I think he's played well in the games he did play. This year I just want to see how he looks in the offense before I stick him in the same category that I have Amare in

Bargs is averaging 35 games per year for the last 5 years...That's 15 games per year less than Amare...I think his body is telling him he can't perform at a NBA 82 game pace...If you have a car that has been breaking down for five years running, you don't give it a paint job and say next year will be a better year...Time to move in a different direction...

+1. He's not worth a roster spot

Also, we need to keep the spot open for guys capable of playing 2/3rds of a season. I'd rather go with a less talented role player who plays 78 games than a guy I know is almost guaranteed to miss half the season.

I'd rather we let him sign with another team and then trade an unprotected first round pick and two 2nd rounders, to re-aquire him at next years trade deadline.
