In addition, New York has discussed internally the possibility of buying out Amar'e Stoudemire to allow him to play for a contender, league sources said. Stoudemire, in the final year of a five-year, $100 million pact, would have to agree to such an arrangement. He recently expressed uncertainty about finishing the season with the Knicks but it is unclear if he'd be interested in a buyout.

I have mixed feelings about this.
Amare is a good guy and likable. He has embraced NY and has worked hard to stay on the court as best he could.
I don't see a future here for him but thats not on me. He was invited and paid very well of course, but he has been nothing but professional so I'd leave it to him.

Goodwill move. I like Amare, I'd even be open to bringing him back on a $3M/year deal if he'd agree to it. That said, there's not much left STAT can give us, and vice versa. If he wants out, let him, and use that roster spot and playing time elsewhere.

I can see Amare back with the organization when his playing days are done ala Houston, Starks, LJ (maybe sooner rather than later).

Amare can play? Pretty sure they would just prefer a live body in the roster spot.

Not sure that he can play. He is out tonight.

RT @nyknicks: Derek Fisher says Amar'e Stoudemire & Cole Aldrich are out tonight. Melo will play vs. Pacers.

Yes please yes please yes please yes yes yes

Get him off this team, give him a suitcase full of money

One massive lump some of freshly printed cash from Washington D.C.

Or better yet have him gain access to the Printing Facilities

And they can make his money on site, he has about $11.5mil left to be paid out

Have the Treasury print out $8.5mil pre tax and put it in a

Gold Plated replicated Jewish Vessel that models one from the most expensive piece in any museum

And tell him "It Would Be Good To Leave And Head To The Promiseland Like A Hebrew Should"

This has been expected for some time. Amare may only have a season or 2 left. Y not let him play for a contender and try and win a chip.

there isn't a contender out there that could guaranty him 23 minutes off the bench, which means he's not going to be able to show he can play at a high level.

Buy Bargi out, that guy is a complete waist, he's been out 4 months with a strain calf, and a strain hamstring. That just seems pretty damn ridiculous

IIRC, a buyout only offers the Knicks savings from a cash perspective, but not a salary cap perspective.

The question would seem to be would STAT be able to garner anything other than a veteran's minimum deal, even from a contender? He can't shoot a three point shot, he can't defend, he refuses to bang it out in the post. He's got limited utility except to flow a 2nd unit offense through as a face the basket big.

My guess is the hope for the veteran player is he gets enough of a new contract to offset what he leaves on the table to buy his freedom.

Maybe OKC could use some pivot offense ( Steven Adams and Kendrick Perkins aren't going to give you much) esp when they have Roberson on the floor. Not sure they want the defensive trade offs. Also Captain 55 percent would eat into touches for Durant and Westbrook, because once he gets the ball, he's not passing it on.

There's reason for the Knicks to do it, but not a ton of upside for STAT to do it IMHO

We'd get some cap relief for the difference of buyout
