Just had a 50 something year old debate me that Durant is the best he's ever seen....

with all the great players he's seen in his lifetime, Durant is the best? I find that hard to believe. Right off the bat I believe Bernard King is the best I ever saw and I'm in my 30s.

As far as HOFers i've seen, the ranking is Jordan, Bird, Bernard King, Dominique and Chris Mullin. Durant is probably number one on my list of current NBAers. That said, I don't think I've seen a little guy dominate from a scoring standpoint like Steph Curry.

One misconception about Bird is that his first step was slow. Bird was slow but his first step was quick and he got by most guys pretty easily when he was younger. Bernie was also very explosive of the drive when he was younger. He didn't shoot a lot of threes, but the three ball wasn't as big when he played.

I think being called a pure scorer is a knock. I rather be called a purely great basketball player. That takes everything into account

AI is the best pound for pound scorer I've ever seen.....

To do what he did at the NBA level, and he's only average size is crazy. Plus he was consistent....And actually carried his team better than some of these superficial scorers of today.

Didn't he win the scoring title? Make it to the finals? When he was the main scorer on his team? Compared to this super teams you see today.....

Bird is definately up there.....Jordan does everything well, so I can't classify him as a scorer. But guys like Bird, AI....when you think of them, you think of buckets! Curry is another one! Melo is right up there too now.....I'm talking pre injury prone melo in his prime.....There isn't a spot on the floor he can score from. Thats the trait of a good scorer. Jordan was like that when he got older and became a 3pt threat. Lebron will be up there once his jumper is consistant.

Its why you count Wilt because his numbers were so far above all other averages at the time.
If a guy came in and did this how you would discount him? Wilt was off the charts.
If Oscar Robertsone play to day would he be as great? He was huge at 6-5 for his position!

Best pure scorer is Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Look it up. He's top. He did it big and for a long time.

Philly guys really talk up Andrew Toney. He came off the bench in the Sixers championship contending years. He didn't have huge career numbers but he could heat up.

AI is further down the list for me. AI would let guys off the hook by settling for that jumper, while a guy Bernard would keep punishing the defender by sticking to his strongest spots. A guy a lot of people overlook is Tim Hard a way in his prime. He was a threat from three, could post and was unstoppable with the killer crossover. He couldn't keep it up after the knee injuries tho.

Tracy McGrady while he was in Orlando was very impressive as a 6-10 SG

Of course Jordan is the best I have seen though

Tough call..I might have a top five but the guy made it look the easist was George Gervin..MJ is there somwhere but don't sleep on Kareem..Kareem didnt do volume and if he did?!?!?!
