for the best draft pick
I want to win as many games as possible this year and go to playoffs
I want to lose as many games as possible as I realize we need our own picked talent

Wow. Easy answer for me. Why root for a 1st round playoff exit? This team is not a contender so for me Id rather them get as high a pick as possible to go along with the free agent dough this coming offseason.

When I watch the games I can't root for them to lose. If Phil moved out a bunch of the vets and some young guys and picks were brought back I could get into that. I would want the young guys to play though. Been there done that with rookies riding the bench on an under 30 win team (Hill/Douglas).

Lose, lose, lose!

But to be honest, it's not like we have the choice. Without injuries we could have squeezed into the playoffs but with injuries we're scuppered! A high pick would be great- I don't think free agency alone is going to get us out of this hole.

Lose early and lose often. We've fought hard and made the playoffs only to get thrashed in the 1st round and I'm over that; it hadn't accomplished anything. In another thread we were discussing missing out on Love and Curry in back to back drafts and I have no desire to repeat that.
Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

I think for Dolan its all about raising the tix 3% each year. If we just tanked it when we were done a few times--we might not have had to deal with so many foul years. At some point--it will be in our interests to do what Philly is doing--not yet of course--but if we are 10-25---then we make sure we get a top 3 pick and rest melo for the benefit of the rest of his career

Maximize our potential moving forward by...

a) Losing games in a meaningless season to improve our draft position
b) Develop the yoots we currently have and determine if we want to extend any of them for the run
c) Preserve cap space NO MATTER WHAT unless something unbelievable becomes available
d) Develop Fisher as a coach so he can be better prepared for the title run
e) Keep Melo healthy by giving him as much downtime as possible (which will help with point A above)

That's the plan. Let's get busy with some losin.

Losing games as long as the team is doing it via the triangle is ok in my book.
Obviously many of the players on this year won't be here in the future, but some will need to learn the system as instinct.
Its important that Melo make as many mistakes and improve thru learning.
If Stat is never to be part of the future and can bring value in a late season trade Im ok.
If we can get a top 3 pick in the draft it could be a cornerstone. We need three. Melo, Draft and a marquee free agent the likes of Gasol.
If Phil sees a diamond in the rough for his triangle, like the kid from Detroit he could be another.
While Philly is very extreme tanking, they could have a very bright future.
Knicks need a season to shed contracts and we have our pick this year. There is no other way to do this. Another meaningless season won't matter, but 10 more will.

I dont think Philly's future is that bright. While theyve had some nice picks--they have a bunch of high end oft injured imperfect players. Will they stink until they get the next Tim Duncan--I guess thats the deal?? But I dont agree with what they are doing--nor do I think theyve done anything special in the draft.

NY does have a greta player--we have tried to win--but with a payroll of 90mm and a boatload of vets--we just havent been able to. We need young GREAT players put together to build a new core. In our case Melo will have to be part of that core--but that is ok. I do NOT want to be in the lottery 8 times in a row. To me this is a MASSIVE year

Its a year we need to somehow stockpile draft assets get rid of cap space and be opportunistic with D league players. Triangle this that means nothing. We need a C a PF and a PG as a new core along with atleast 1 premium FA. We NEED a top 3 pick desperately--if we get 1 its our avenue to put atleast 1 of those in place--the lower you drop --well we know about Steph Curry 100X over. The only thing this team needs to do this year is to stink and not take any long term injuries to melo--develop and commit 35 minutes to Timmy give 25 to Wear etc... guys who might be here long term. STINKING and losing as many games as we can--is the ONLY thing we can control--we cannoyt control FA--we can almost for a certainty guarantee atleast a top 5 pick or better.

When is making an 8th seed satisfaction

And why do we try to compare our 1 shot at possibly

Being in the lottery to Philly's situation

I mean it's a pretty loaded question

Agreed- this is our last chance at a top pick until 2017! That loss of the 2016 pick is a killer. FA is a huge risk, but a top pick even helps us out with that, as we can sell free agents that with Melo and that top rookie, things can turn around.

I do not believe our owner thinks like this--hes only a strategist to the 3.5% raise. He only knows/believes in what he saw with Boston and Miami but doesnt undertand high draft picks helped each of those proccess He wants to pay for a quick fix thats the only Dolan game plan.

The objective should be to lose but we need to lose with a purpose. Like what another poster said, we need to look into flipping our veterans for younger players with potential. A few of the guys on my wish list include:

1.) Thomas Robinson- the guy was the 5th pick in the draft not too long ago and was the early favorite to be ROY. Unfortunately, he got drafted by a bum franchise in Sacramento that had 5 players at his position, which inevitably got him traded to the Rockets, who in turn dumped him to have enough cap space for Dwight Howard. He barely gets time with the Blazers but has looked pretty good for them, boasting defensive and rebounding advanced stats that resemble Tyson Chandler in some of his better years. I think the kid could be a perfect fit next to Melo because he is particularly versatile defensively and can cover either forward position. He's now on the last year of his contract but still active on the Blazer's bench.

2.)Derrick Williams- Almost the exact same M.O. as Thomas Robinson but is more of a hybrid forward. Was drafted by a bum team that had a phletora of forward's which hurt his development and then got traded to the Kings, who helped to further destroy his career. He's looked impressive in the few consistent minutes he's gotten in Sacramento though and even helped them win some games before they traded for Rudy Gay. He's now on the last year of his contract and out of the team's rotation.

3.)Evan Turner- he does everything we hoped Shumpert would. Is pretty good as a point forward and does an excellent job of promoting ball movement in the offense. Has been one of the best rebounding backcourt players in the league and is also a good defender. He's locked into a two year deal with the Celtics but they have a number of swingmen that could make him expendable.

4.) Jimmer Fredette- He's a subpar at running a team but that is irrelevant in the triangle. Does an excellent job in moving without the ball and in hitting shots. And for all the detractors of his defense, he ain't that bad and definitely not Calderon bad. The guy just needs an opportunity with us and I think he'd shine.

Honorable Mentions (that would require assets, making them less appealing): Dion Waiters, Nate Wolters, John Henson, CJ McCullom, Perry Jones III, Jeremy Lamb and Reggie Jackson.

Watson: 13-0 for Tanking Holmes! Gibber me sniggets, do you think everyone has voted already?

Holmes: Highly improbable Watson. My powers of deduction indicate Nixluva has not voted yet.
