Rest Carmelo for two weeks to help eliminate his knee issues which are now affecting his lumbar. During that time showcase some of the talents on the roster in attempt to find out what we truly have on this roster. Start Calderon, Shump, and JR in the backcourt, and continue to play Acy with Dalembert in the front court. Give Larkin, THJ, and Wear some heavy minutes to bolster their confidence.
Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Carmelo's injuries could be viewed as a blessing for the Knicks. It is hard to watch this team go to battle with one weapon every game. His absence will either help give birth to the sorely needed second scorer, or it will truly highlight the NEED for that second star. Who will step up to fill that void? We already know what STAT and JR are all about. so who will be THE guy that we can count on? A couple of seasons ago, Indy found a diamond in Paul George due to an injury to Granger. Who will be our Paul George?

Agreed I think this might benefit thjr and wear ... With thjr coming into his own... This is all of course if melo is out for two weeks...still fisher needs to give Timmy more time on the floor

Not to mention, as the losses pile up, so do our chances for a solid pick in the draft. Is this season really important to our long road toward contention? I say "yes", but not in terms of winning, rather in terms of LOSING.

Hate to say it, but I have shifted to a preference for tanking this season, come what may. The hoops certainly is abysmal, on both ends of the court (notwithstanding Melo's considerable contributions, he can't go it alone).

I don't believe in tanking, and I don't think that will resolve our issues. We need to solidify the starting five, and we need to replenish our bench. There is no way we do so with a top draft pick. In fact, giving our needs, we are to trade the pick if we end up in the lottery to a team who has multiple picks so we can collect as much talent as possible. Shuffle the deck a little by getting rid of expired contracts like Bargnani' for a couple of solid players like Sullinger and Jeff Green. I like Sullinger's game. He rebounds pretty well and can stretch the floor if need be. He also has an excellent low post game. Jeff Green could be used as the athletic slasher we sorely need.

I would trade anyone on the roster for any first rounder this year or next. Shump for a 2016 pick? Sign me up. THjr? bring it. JR? Where do I sign.

2014 Purge
2015 Draft
2015 sign
2016 draft
2016 sign

and could have a very good team if this is done well.

I don't know if I would get rid of THJ that quickly. I would give him one more year to see how much he can be coached. He shoots the ball very well if you ask me, he just has to be coached to become an all around player. He has an affordable contract for now, why not keep him around for a little while. Give him minutes and COACH him through his mistakes; specifically on defense. Stress that he learns how to GUARD his man. I don't know if it is the dumb skims that is being used, but as a wing player, he shouldn't be looking to sag to help as much as he has; specifically when we are getting torched every freaking night on the perimeter. The wing players have all made that mistake, and fisher has yet to make the adjustment.

That's a solid plan if Carmelo doesn't continue to break down

Carmelo will be fine....his game is predicated to be around for a long while. He was never an athletic freak that can jump out of the gym; he always had a rugged game. At 6'9", he can take you inside and punish you if needed or step outside to kill you. Defensively, he never exert too much of himself. He will be just fine.

We traded, chris duhon, howard eisley....JR is not a bad player, he maybe inconsistent, but he can pass, shoot, he's athletic, plays decent man D. but he should start

Showcase? So what happens, we play guys that do well so we can get more for a trade?
These guys are not cars, clean them up and get more for them?
What about playing them and they suck? Devalues?

Teams scout each others players, they know whats up.

Pretty solid fishmike. I think we can double time by using BOTH cap space and maximum draft status THIS year. I think we are going to be able to use Wear as an intangible player long term. But right--Id start trading anyone not named Melo for picks starting now. What exactly is this season going to turn into? Want to push Melo at 40 minutes to win 37 games?

Just to win 37 games we have to go .500 rest of year--it is NOT happening.

These guys who want to trade pick 4 for Andre Igudola--ummm?????

This team needs a LOT of work--we are in reasonable trouble right now--forget this year--I mean going 4 ward. We need a max draft spot and to purge any remaining cap space

I agree with you except for one thing. I believe there is a point in the draft where multiple second rounders are more valuable than a first round pick. OKC's pick last year was a perfect example. That late round pick had so little value. They basically drafted some fringe prospect just so they could sign him to a barebones deal and banished him to the d-league.

Yeah i don't know what has warranted the use of the word "continue." Melo looks great overall, he is as good as ever. As long as he's not overworked or suffers a bad injury, he should continue to perform at a high level for the length of his contract. We need to add slightly younger guys to the core who can take more of the workload from Melo as the years go by in the way the Spurs have done for Duncan and the Mavs for Dirk. Melo could realistically play less minutes, but still score 20 ppg very efficiently until he enters his late 30s if we have other great scoring options in their primes who step up more each year.
