Astounding Calderon is only making $7.5mil/yr!

I wonder if we would've made the trade//// say he was getting paid $12mil/yr

Based on how good he is according to this article

Pretty positive stuff but the guy backed it up.
To emphasize how good he was, I'll introduce you to an instrument called ShotScores. Kirk Goldsberry of Grantland.com, writes that Jose has the fourth best ShotScore during the 2013-2014 NBA season. He sits only behind dominant players Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and LeBron James.

If that doesn't sound good enough, Jose is the best among top 10 outside shooters Per 100 Shot Attempts. Impressive no doubt however Goldsberry writes that although Calderon is a fantastic shooter, it doesn't necessarily mean he is the best shooter in the league. The NBA is not a catch-and-shoot league. Players have to also create their own shots. Some players thrive in different scenarios such a Steve Novak -- catch-and-shoot -- while other players such as Curry, Dirk Nowitzki and Durant are able to create off the dribble.

A fantastic shooter no doubt, Calderon also made history, as he became one of 11 players to become part of the 40/50/90 club. For those who don't know, this exclusive club is for players who've shot a field goal percentage of 50% or over, a three-point field goal percentage of 40% or over and a free throw percentage of 90% or more.

Just had to pause reading that article to post Calderon's most recent shot chart (last season w/ Dallas). Truly, a thing of beauty:

This is why we should be kissing Phil's rings. We gave up Tyson and Felton...TYSON and FELTON for this guy and other assets. Jose is so much better than Felton that it's not even worth any kind of argument about that. If all of you PJax doubters want to see just how much of an improvement at the PG spot he made then just look at the PG rankings. The difference between Jose and Felton is STARK!!! And this was with Jose sharing the ball with Ellis. His assists would've been higher no doubt.

Does he have a weak left hand? Not necessarily the most familiar withhis team, considering the crappy teams he's played on

So $9-10mil Calderon is an awful empty stat loser point guard but $7.5mil he's all world.

Thanks for confirmation

you remind us daily... no need to thank me for confirming. Typical thinking by some on this board. A guy cant simply fit OK. He's got to be all world or an empty stat loser. Not sure your aware but there is a middle ground.

I don't get it. We traded a bottom 40 PG for a top 20 PG. What's the issue here? We had a PG who wasn't reliable shooting or decision making. Now we have a PG who takes care of the ball, can shoot and makes sound decisions with the ball. Where is the real issue with that improvement? Felton couldn't defend and neither can Jose, but EVERYTHING else is a vast improvement. ON top of all that Jose is an excellent PnR/P PG. He should be an excellent fit for the Triangle where you want a guard that can shoot the 3 and setup his teammates in the 2 man game. I'm excited to see how things work out this year.

I wonder why Dallas would give him up.

Last time they gave up a guy that we went all in on was Tyson. That was really really really dumb.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Not to mention that Jose just might revive the killer Bargs we experienced occassionally when he was healthy with the cRaptors, and pump up that trade value. Big hope, I know.

It's doom and gloom for the Pointedly Disappointed with Melo crowd. This will spill over to anything and everything.

They wanted Tyson back really really really bad////

The same way we wanted Felton back when Lin left

Only problem is Dallas thinks Tyson is the piece to get them back to the finals... We were going to sign Felton to a sub MLE contract. Instead we did a sign and trade for Felton and Kurt Thomas for guys who have never played in the league again.

Also Felton deal happened before Lin signed. More evidence that the Knicks simply didnt want him.

Dallas has stronger data and evidence to support making the move.

Winning 50gms on average past 12yrs no matter who they put around Dirk

We don't have a Dirk type of talent

One season in which they won a chip, with Tyson.

It's a low risk high reward move for them, Tyson is an expiring contract

Having players like Parsons-Ellis-AlFarou-Johnson surely equates to what they had when they won it all.

They'll have cap space again next year, if it doesn't work

What evidence did we have bringing Felton back in a trash year paying him near MLE money.

As we see it didn't work, we were never serious contenders with him
