The New York Knicks have come to an one-year agreement with Jason Smith value at $3.3 million.

Smith played for the Pelicans last year and averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds per game, in just 27 minutes a night. For those un-aware of Smith, he’s a 7’0″ 240 pound banger with an above-average jump shot.

The Knicks’ roster is filled with wings, but missing size, so Phil Jackson has hinted at the need to sign a big man. Smith is, realistically speaking, the best center available that the Knicks could afford. Also, quite honestly, in this market, the fact that the Knicks snagged Smith for just $3.3 million is a little surprising.

He’s been trapped in New Orleans for the last five years and was injured for a good chunk of last season, but Jason Smith is a fabulous signing for the Knicks. Only thing I don’t like about the deal is that it’s not a longer contract!

Nice move, we needed another center. Seems like the guy has talent but a shady injury history.

When you have the ability to formulate your own team, pick the perfect players to play in a system you mastered, to have a young intelligent coach, who you have work with a trained for years, it just makes a world of difference.

This is a flat out good signing, perfect guy for this system..call him a poor mans pau, or Luc Longly 2.0

Funny I said earlier on a different thread that Josh Harrelson would be a good Luc Longley. Welp, here's a better option. Big ups to PJAx.

He just turned 28. He seems like the exact type of big he's had in the past as you mention Longley and other similar bigs. I like it a lot. Phil is forming his team the way he knows will work. You can see the blueprint of a Phil Jackson team forming.

Great deal. Doesn't hurt our cap situation at all and adds a big dude who can hit a jumper. We were interested in this guy last week. Was hoping we could get him on a one year deal and we did.

This guy has been a bit under the radar....been in the NBA a while, but he's 7 ft and has always put up good numbers and decent percentages, even in limited minutes. Certainly can score a little at his size.

Maybe a Mike Doleac type? Should be useful on the pick and roll with Calderon in terms of popping 15 ft jumpers and in.

He's a solid player when healthy--but he hasnt shown the ability to stay healthy.

He's definitely a will purdue/bill wennington type of player.... That's not a knock either. We got a nice role player

Looks like an injury prone non rebounding back up. That's just what the numbers seem to say. I have not really focused on him when he played.

WTF do you think we can get with such a small amount of money? He's a good reserve. He can do some of the things we need. We needed another big body that can play in the triangle. If he was perfect we wouldn't be able to get him. That's how this works. You know that. Doesn't mean it's not a good move.

A center who can average between 8-10 ppg off the bench as he has the last 3 seasons is not a bad pick up at that price.

im happy with this signing. hes not a start but a solid role player if he can stay healthy. I like the offensive-defensive tandem of smith and dalembert
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Jason Smith is reportedly joining the Knicks. (USATSI)
More Offseason Analysis: Coaching changes, news | Free Agency | Draft

Jason Smith has signed a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the New York Knicks, according to RealGM's Shams Charania. The big man averaged 9.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 31 games for the New Orleans Pelicans last season before having surgery on his right knee.

Smith, if healthy, is great value at that price, especially when you consider Chris Kaman got $5 million per season from the Blazers. He should be a backup in most situations, but could very well end up being New York's starting center. The Knicks desperately need serviceable defense from their frontcourt, and while not an amazing rim protector, Smith can provide that.

The dude has been a very midrange shooter for most of hi career, with last year being the exception. His rebounding is pathetic, but at least he gets the occasional block. It's an aight signing. Three white centers on the same team. Is that one of Phil's things?

Lol, don't think Shaq was very white, so probably not.
