Objectively looking at next year roster it should be pretty ugly.
We may get pretty high lottery pick in 2015.
Melo actually sacrificed one of the prime years of his NBA stint and agreed to experience second losing season in a row.

Melo didn't sacrifice anthing. He had lots of choices and true to his character he chose to get paid.

Carmelo took what he is worth as a player. It's unfair to expect players to pull a LeBron/Wade/Bosh and take less than they are worth. That was complete BS when it happened 4 years ago, and likely will not become the norm.

Carmelo easily could have left and gone to a much better team, but chose to stay a Knick. It was not completely about money as the Bulls and Lakers offered him very hefty contracts as well. The Knicks were in a position to offer him more and they did. But he clearly wants to play for the Knicks and deserves credit and respect from Knicks fans for that decision.

Chris Bosh just signed a $118M deal for crying out loud.

LOL

I just think it would have been very easy for him to go to the Bulls and say "screw it" to Phil and Fisher's rebuilding attempt. He wants a championship. Instead, he decided to buy in and stick it out in NY, knowing full well we will not compete next year for a title.

Sorry but i seriously doubt Melo would have gone to Chicago simply because they could only offer about half what we could offer. If you want to give hima little props fine but just dont be fooled into thinking he was gonna give a major discount. Im sure he wants to win but he wants his money just as more

If we did not hire Phil I bet Melo would have left.

I doubt it. If we didnt hire Phil Dolan would still be running the show and Dolan would have done anything to keep melo for better or worse. Look i happy Melo is back but the ass kissing for taking a little less (even though he is making more than anybody which is crazy) is a little weird. Look at tim Duncan who is an actual future Hall of Famer, he continues to take less and he continues to win

So basically any time a player resigns with his team, after being actively pursued by tons of teams for a lot of money, they should get no credit from that teams fan base because clearly they are just selfish and all about the money.

Or...wait, does this only apply to Knicks fans and Melo?

Because, you guys realize it is purposely set up so that the team that is re-signing him has the luxury of offering the most money?

Also, it's being reported he gave the Knicks a discount in 2015, the year we have cap space, why would he do that if he could have had the max?

I think people are being fair with melo. they simply dont want to kiss his ass and nor should they have to. if he did what Tim Duncan did or even lebron/bosh/wade did in 2010 then i would be more flattering.

I appreciate melo coming back. My appreciation grows with the fact he took less than max. We all know how much melo loves his money.

Tim Duncan is at the end of his rope. Melo is in his Prime. There's a difference there. As I already said, The LeBron/Wade/Bosh thing was BS and to be honest, I think they all are kind of glad it's over with the paycuts and as you can see, Bosh was not so quick to give the Heat another discount, instead made them severely overpay.

Nowhere did I say Melo's resume stacked up with theirs. I can just admit we should be thanking Melo for staying and buying in to Phil's plan. If he did not, we'd be laughingstocks next season, and it would make the rebuilding job harder. Instead, all us fans do is bash him because he took the contract we offered, which included a paycut.

We don't even know exactly what he took yet.

Nobody is bashing the guy so that crap has to stop. I just think you are overreacting to his "generosity", Im just being honest. If he took less money and Phil can work around that than its great but no need to kiss his butt. I mean he is still making more money on the Knicks than anywhere else. So in closing he did teh right thing but no need to build him a statue

Phil Jackson said he took less and did exactly what they asked him to. Smells like a spin to Melo simply taking a lil' less than max, but we'll see tomorrow when we learn the final number.

Exactly. I dont have a problem with teh signing just be honest. He took less tahn 129 million but that doenst mean he did some noble thing it ounds like he is still making 120 million which is more than he made previous
