LeBron James has signed a two-year $42.1 million deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

James is signing a shorter contract in order to get a max under the NBA's next collective bargaining agreement.

Depending on how the new television contracts are put together, the salary cap is projected to leap to as high as $80 million in 2016.

To make clear this isn't about use trying to get Lebron but the projections of a 80mil salary cap in 2016. With the available cap space coming to the Knicks over the next 2 yrs Phil should be able to do some things.

I think I heard the same on the radio - SAS talking about Miami not being handcuffed with Wade- before the signed Bosh.

he's obviously confident (and insured) that he won't get hurt.

But we should definitely keep cap open just in case - you never know...

Is Phil going to leave $20+ mil available for the next 2 years? That means not putting the best team possible together now.
He'll really be hated if he leaves Cleveland again!

Lebron isn't coming to NY he is going to stay in Cleveland. The only chance we have at Lebron is when he is like 36yrs old and he and Melo would maybe team up for a last horraaah.

This is more about the possible cap space available to the Knicks over the next 2yrs. If we sign 2 high quality players(Gasol,Milsap). Next yr then Smith & Pablo come off the book freeing up another 8mil plus the cap goes up to 80mil we could have 8 figures in cap space for 2016 again.

I doubt it, though the threat or uncertainty is there.

You sign for two years if you are confident in your abilities and health, and you want to be the highest paid player and you know the cap is going up.

I would love the idea of Lebron in NYK, however, it isn't happening unless we seriously impress him with our young players, CA success in the TRIANGLE, and both Derek Fisher/Phil Jackson able to implement their philosophies, hoping to add Brian Shaw when his contract ends with the largest salary as the LEAD ASSISTANT, demoting Kurt Rambis, and adding some interesting development/assistant coaches like

Duncan
Rasheed Wallace
Pau Gasol

Billups/Ron Harper
Pippen/Kukoc
Kapono (as the shooting coach)

IF Lebron had to play to choose who he could play with, in my opinion, it would easily be Durant to fit his skill set, after that maybe CA/Paul George/CP3 and then Curry/Noah

However, Lebron seems like he loss a step to me last season in the finals, he doesn't have the speed/quickness that he once did, however, he still has size/strength/athleticism
He also would be quite tough with Kawaii Leonard/Battum, they would be the best DEFENSIVE G/F's combination

If those are the numbers that LeBron just signed for then I'm going to say that this is the stupidest deal I have ever seen. Does this guy think he immune to injury? While I don't wish injury to any player he definitely is no longer thinking with his head and completely basing all his decisions on emotion. There is a thing called an opt out.

LeBron is not leaving Cleveland. After reading that essay, do yo guys honestly believe he would jilt Cleveland again? He signed the 2 year deal so that in 2016, the will have the space available to go after FA's, i.e. Durant. Lebron is all in for the Cavs....

Does he not think that the talent is already there? They have a pretty good team already and will only get better and better here on out. I don't think he will leave Cleveland but you would have thought he would never leave Miami. Or you would have thought he would never have left Cleveland the first time. This guy bases all his decisions on emotion the latest loss makes his decisions for him. Spurs and Celtics made him make decisions.

Leaving Cleveland for Miami in 2010 was the right move, looking back at. He won two 'chips, two finals mvps and appeared in the finals every single year. I would say the move was smart, not emotional. That Cavs team he was on did not have the talent to win a 'chip let alone get back to the finals.

This current Cavs team is young, and full of unknowns. I think they are some seasoning and a front court player away from seriously competing for a 'chip. 2016 may be the year to add that front court player unless they pull off the Love trade. As I stated, no way in hell he leaves his hometown again. This is the feel good story of the summer. LeBron has to be smart enough to know that if he leaves again, he will be vilified.

I'm guessing because be is allowing Cleveland a chance to add pieces in 2yrs. Don't know if I can say the same about Melo and his contract

Lebron is opting out so that he can reclaim a full max contract under the new collective bargaining agreement. If the salary cap is at 80 mil as projected then a max contract given his tenure would be massive.

Another great point. This by no means is about him leaving. No way he leaves Cleveland again

Figured you would use this to take yet another shot at Melo. LeBron is about his business and is sooo far ahead of these other players (not just Melo)and some execs for that matter, its not even funny.
