the ny post now has written about okur 2 out of the last 3 days. this must be a fantasy of the writer because the NY Knicks ARE not, NO way, NO How getting Okur when there are 14-16 clubs that have considerably more than the MLE to offer and many more intruiging sign+ trade possibilities including draft picks from clubs who are over the cap. The Knicks are likely 20th on the list.

And try to get this through the membrane, Jamal Crawford would be matched in a nano-second for a full MLE--its not worth signing the papers which I dont think Jamal would do anyways with all this cap room out there.

I think we have a chance at Dampier probably a 20-25%, a chance at steven jackson 30-35%, Blount 20-25% and we have some opportunity to trade for one player who makes a good deal of money who has fallen out of favor--stackhouse finley webber etc... but you are taking huge financial risks

we know the value of KT--well that was before he signed for an extra 30mm. its much more plausible KT could get traded to a team willing to let go one of the high risk players.

i'm not a big fan of okur's at all. he is young but i don't think he's the type of player isiah wants.

but i think the only way we get crawford here is a sign-and-trade for kurt thomas which i think chicago would do. we're loaded in the backcourt with $20 mil going to penny/shandon but if it's about talent, then i would make that swap and hope sweets is ready. kurt still could be a good piece to our team but bringing in jamal gives us the ability to move frank and gives us a 3 guard of steph, jamal (who's 10x better than frank), and h20 and a jamal/steph backcourt is kinda scary.

chicago doesnt even have a back up at 2 guard. why the hll would they trade crawford and better yet with antonio davis why do they want KT? so they have no 2G and two guys who are 30 somethings on the downside who make a lot of money and play the same position?

chicago did say they wanted another big man to help with curry and chandler. yes, i wouldn't do it but i think that's our only chance at getting him. would chicago do it - probably not but if it's a bigger deal where we take jyd in return and give them othella or deke, then it possibly gets done. as well as giving them frank and us getting a future #1 in return.

but i think someone will overpay for him and okur b/c they'll get desperate.

Look at what gets written in these treads often. We talk often about players and trades that we would like to get. Readers love this crap about "isiah gonna do this, Isiah gonna do that", and hardley any of it comes to fruition. Or likely, its somthing we never considered.

First of all, I agree about Jamal Crawford.

Secondly, even though I don't really care for Okur, what makes you think team are willing to sign him for much more than the MLE. And WHAT TEAMS do you think he'd be willing to go to, that is below the salary cap? You really think the Jazz are gonna sign him? The Nuggets? I don't know about that. I doubt Phoenix signs him either.

i think the Jazz have the BEST shot of signing him...he would be starting on that team, playing alongside young, talented international players like Kirilenko & Arroyo, & he'd be playing for a brilliant head coach in Jerry Sloan who made his bread & butter off the pick & roll offense, something he can excell at.

Denver has too many other bigmen for Okur to bother playing for...he'd be in the same boat that he's in now in DET playing behind the 2 Wallace's...

Phoenix has a shot of signing Okur too, since they are another talented international team w/a need for a bigman...he could be a nice tandem at the C w/Voskuhl.

The Knicks need somebody to run the pick-and-roll with Marbury if they trade Kurt Thomas, since he's the only big man on the team that can run it as of now. That's Marbury's bread and butter play becuase if they don't double team him he goes to the hoop and if they do he can pass it out for open looks.

If KT is traded, you simply MUST get a bigman to run the pick and roll with Marbury, it is easy baskets. Either keep KT, trade for Pat Garrity, or sign Memo Okur (he and Garrity are the two best shooting big men available) or Mike Doleac. Taking away the only big man who can shoot and not replacing him is like taking all the athletes out of the Nets system, it renders Kidd almost useless.

And I don't know why you write off Okur so quickly. Crawford, I agree, the Bulls have no shooting guards and won't draft a shooting guard, so why trade the only guard that can create his own shot. It doesn't make sense.

Okur though could get 5 years, $35 million from the Knicks and live with the Turks in NJ, maybe that means more to him then getting an extra few million and playing somewhere he doesn't want to play. I'm sure he's not a fool, Marbury makes Okur's job as a jumpshooting F/C very, very easy, all he has to do is set a pick, pop out, and hit open shots. It's an easy 10 points per game. He's not going back to Detroit, Larry Brown never plays the guy.

Maybe I'm overestimating it a bit, but I know if I was playing overseas and there was the chance to make a lot of money and live in a town with a fair amount of Americans or make a whole lot of money and live in a town with no Americans (obviously the reverse in his case, since Okur said he likes the Turkish communities in NJ), I might opt with the first choice, especially with a city like NY and a PG like Marbury.

You're saying we have a 25% chance of getting Dampier, who averaged 12 points and 12 rebounds, but NO chance of getting Okur, who averaged like 8 and 4. That doesn't make any sense. I think you're underestimating a bit the intangibles NY has like the Turkish community, city, and PG, plus the opportunity to start.

He'd serve the exact same function that Rodney Rodgers has now. They need more help elsewhere, plus they have Nenad Kristic coming in from Europe to help up front.

OK, maybe he'd be the starting C, but he's essentially Rodney Rogers plus 2 inches. The Nets are going to use the MLE on that when they have another big man coming over from Europe and have virtually nothing backing up Kidd, Kittles, or RJ?

the nets need outside shooting (especially from the arc) badly.

With kristic, they could hold the fort, but without shooting, they'll still spend next season being zoned to death.

if i were NJ i would be pursuing Brent Barry, cuz he could handle the point as well as shoot from the perimeter...

if they just want a pure shooter to come off the bench, they should go after Kyle Korver...he'd be cheap & can shoot the lights out if left open.

Okur can;t come here becuase the Pistons would match an MLE offer. it is impossible. 0% chance.

I don't think Pistons could match if they max out Rasheed.
It will be very tricky keeping both players.
They have to convince both to take a certain amount.. and even then sign in a certain order. They must sign Okur First... If they Sign Rasheed first.. they will not have the cap space to match.. unless they use their ml exception.. Like I said.. it will be very tricky.
