Carmelo Anthony is prepared to spend the prime years of his career in New York, the Daily News has learned.
A person close to Anthony told The News on Wednesday that barring a last minute change of heart Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks after "agonizing over this" for the past week.
"He will have something for everybody on Thursday," said the friend who was with Anthony before Anthony's scheduled workout with Kevin Durant and Kevin Love in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil."

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

I have been saying it since the beginning of last season when Melo free agency questions were just starting. Melo ALWAYS gets the max amount of money possible. He has not once done anything other than get the max amount possible. I can't fault the man for wanting his paper. I might not agree with it fully but he is entitled to want what he wants.

Yes, the move now is to take a bit less in a nod to the fans and Jackson. As previously discussed in other threads, by voluntarily taking a little less after being offered the max, Melo can calm some of the haters and, symbolically at least, show he is a team guy. Props would go to Jackson for setting the stage this way to get Melo to come back, allow the team more cap flexibility and allow Melo to improve his image among Knick fans.

He should go $110mil over the five years (avg $22mil per), setup to give optimal flexibility for adding players during the next two years. Maybe we can make a run at KLove or KD in 2016.

so we have more flexibility with the cap. Like i said all along its fine if melo comes back but im more concerned with teh knicks having flexibility to build a long term contender

He said he would back in february. I would imagine there will be a "Creative" slant to it.

We're going to regret that contract. I don't begrudge Melo for accepting it, but it's going to cripple us down the line.

MEH! The cap is gonna rise and you won't really have to worry about it. For right now there's no one else we'd be looking to give a max contract to right away anyway. It's looking more and more like we'll be building a team with sub max players the next 2 years. This is a good thing and we can just relax and watch how Phil builds this from here.

Maybe, but let us toast to the unexpected end of the Heat! Never thought it would be over with so quickly!

This team will be a playoff team but with the money he is making the Knicks will have to hope they fall into a franchise SG or C in the draft to offset his contract if they are ever going too be serious title contenders. He will be making 40% of their salary cap . Phil Jackson can not make 1 mistake

Probably. I don't like the idea of signing any one player to $129M, including Lebron. But hey, at least we're getting a better player than Joe Johnson or Rashard Lewis for it. Another domino falls, let's build this team, Phil!
