My guess is Melo does that but he would be 35 at the end of his next contract. P
So you don't think Melo should take a discount to stay?
I don't get it. Sounds like some posters would be dissatisfied if he does the smart thing and gives his knicks a discount
Athletes and sports owners don't live in a logical world. Whats logical about Lebron wanting a max contract which would hurt the Heat in trying to fill out the roster? Whats logical about Morey, noted 'Metrics-guy wanting Melo on his team? Whats logical about offering Gordon Hayward a max contract? Ben Gordon getting the contract he signed? What's logical about Gortat's deal? Etc....
These owners and GMS talk a good game, but when push comes to shove, they shoot themselves in the foot.
I agree that some GM's make desperate illogical moves that's how we ended up in this mess.
Lebron is a tool for taking the max but then again, he was always a narcissistic tool.
Morey wanting Melo actually makes a lot of sense being that they already have key players in place so to overpay for Melo would be the right move as a final piece to a playoff team. And, melo's has become a more efficient player he is no AI.
Would it really shock you if Melo got the max or very close to it? If this happens, whats the new perception of Phil?
It would not shock me and its not up to Phil. Its up to Melo. Phil has no choice here, he is not letting Melo walk for nothing. He will give him the max if that is what Melo requires.
It would be a really stupid move by melo to take the max IMHO. GAME OF CHESS, your move mr anthony ...
So let me get this straight, before the FA started Phil had all the cards regarding Melo and the money he can offer him but now its up to Melo? Come now. If Phil doesn't want Melo he doesn't have to pay Melo. He can do a S&T if he wants but he chooses to say that's off the table.
Should he take less to make it slightly easier for the Knicks to add players? I think so but the organization and Melo are each responsible. I think he should do a little under the Highest salary this year, 5.5% decrease, 7.5% decrease, 7.5% increase, and 7.5% increase
