“The journey to build this team for the upcoming season and beyond continues,” Jackson said. “We have added players with this move that will fit right in to our system while maintaining future flexibility."

He understands the attatchment the fans have with the team and understands we deserve that respect to hear from his mouth what he is doing....that foundation of building a winner includes us too

really was a great trade. chris herring (whoever he is) is saying the knicks are looking to deal larkin/dalembert. i guess larkin was a 1st rounder last year, so he does have value.

Doesn't sound like they are going anywhere. Phil welcomed them here awfully fast, for the Knicks anyway.

reading the statement brings great pause...cuz my head was spinning and by him immediately welcoming thim to the fold as pieces to what they are trying to do, it lets you know that he is confident on the move and man that is re****ingfreshing

Not too sure about that "future flexibility" might well include trading these guys next week.

I hope to God it mean that these guys are nothing more than a segue to bigger and better things. Calderon could have decent value for teams looking to win ASAP e.g. the Lakers (for Nash), the Pacers (for George Hill), the Kings (for expirers). If we trade Melo for the Bulls 16th and 19th, maybe we could even use Calderon to trade into the lottery with either the Lakers or Kings' pick.

And then do what, draft a 20 year old and trade him when he turns 23/24..calderon is the type of vet you need to stay competitive, he has a higher IQ then any pg we had in a while.

You bring in guys that fit your system, you don't starphuck. Dude we are looking to win ASAP, your in dream land if you think phil is building through a draft..

You think your going to entice a vet star to come here and baby sit..

Phil is being the leader we've needed for so long. He understands our passion for this team and that we are eager to know what's going on and be reassured that he knows we want a winner. Just the cleansing feeling of bringing in 2 young prospects and 2 draft picks feels so good. Sure it's not some blockbuster move, but that's the point. You win with every little move you make before you make the big moves. You build a team brick by brick and i'm happy to see a more detailed approach for a change.

PHil operates at levels we can't yet understand. Most of UK are starphuchers unimpressed with the pieces or value of the trade.

We don't understand what he is doing yet.

So don't start predicting wins.

HE Dumped Felton and Tyson into tradable pieces. Calderon is cool, he'll be a back up in or go back to Spain.

Don't letter grade the trade yet. How can mortals judge what we can't yet understand.

Anyone know if we used the rest of our "CASH considerations" in this deal?

I don't think ANYONE knew that we even used part of it in the AB deal, CAA always utilizing the power...

Nearly a year later and then it comes out that we used it for AB along with our 2016 1st rounder and the 2 late 2nd rounders that I actually would think make a difference when it comes down to draft day

I don't believe it was necessary to add that little bit of cash we had left to make this deal happen. In fact in the end because of this deal it's entirely possible they could cut salary and get the full MLE back for use later. This was a good deal in terms of flexibility despite what some think. removing 2 players making big money for several smaller contracts gives you options. We can buy out Dalembert to cut more salary if needed.

This is our current cap situation:

Player 2014/15 2015/16
Amare S $23,410,988 $0
Carmelo $0 $0
Andrea B $12,000,000 $0
Calderon $7,097,191 $7,402,812
JR Smith $5,982,375 $6,399,750
Dalembert $3,867,282 $0
Ellington $2,500,000 $0
Shumpert $2,761,113 $3,898,691
Prigioni $1,662,961 $1,734,572
Metta $1,661,550 $0
Shane Larkin $1,606,080 $1,675,320
Hardaway Jr $1,250,640 $1,304,520
Jeremy Tyler $948,163 $0
Lamar Odom $0 $0
TOTALS: $59,932,898 $15,537,134

- See more at: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/new_york.htm#sthash.GJlhWrYy.dpuf

Just looking at this you can see that our current cap situation is better than it was in that we can see the possibility of gaining that full MLE if needed to add another FA.

You think you're going to entice a vet star to come here for Jose Calderon? Let's be serious, the only three teams that I can think of, who enticed a star to come to their team are the Celtics with KG and Allen; the Lakers with Shaq; and the Heat with LeBron and Bosh. And each of those teams had an anchored superstar/star they had drafted I.e. the Celtics had Pierce, the Lakers had Kobe, Van Exel and Eddie Jones, the Heat had Wade. So who exactly is living in a dream land?

OK guys we need to pull it back a bit. This is just a starting move. It's not THE move. It just sets the tone for what Phil is gonna be looking to do. Make smart decisions, getting talent that fits what this franchise is gonna be about. We have a system and we're getting players that fit that system. It's a new philosophy. Unlike when we brought in MDA and failed to get him players that fit his system. This time Phil is making sure we have what we need to succeed playing this style of ball.

So no Calderon isn't a player that excites other FA's, but it's the 1st brick in the building of this new team. A smart vet to help show the kids how it's done.

The 1st brick to a building?? Man I'm going to bed because I don't know what you guys are drinking but it's got you confused. How did Houston get a lottery 1st round pick for Asik and we only got a second round. This was not a great deal.
